Had a long chat with OH last night about my interview. He doesn't think I should go for it.. I'm still not sure. I don't really want to leave this company as I do like it here, know I have room for progression, know I am valued etc. etc. but it's just the money.. I know I deserve to be on more than I am on now. We agreed the best way forward would be for me to just sit down with my boss so I can explain how I'm feeling and see what happens, although I doubt anything could be done until after the new year. Obviously if I went to this interview and got offered the job I could then use that to speak to my boss and say I've been offered this job on this salary, can you match it... but my boss is into loyalty and commitment and I think he'd be upset if he knew I had been for another interview and looking at other jobs. Really stuck and don't know what to do!!!!
Heart is saying stay here, have a chat with my boss, don't go for the interview as I have really good career prospects here. Head is saying go for the interview, get some more interview experience, got nothing to lose, etc.
Sorry to keep going on about this - so confused :/ xx

I think you should go for the interview, it might be a much better company with much more room for progression and it's more money. Even if you don't like it when you are there you don't have to take the job, it's just good to be out there looking and getting interview experience. Plus you'll find out what you can progress on to. I would definitely speak to your boss though and maybe mention that you have been looking at other jobs and there are offering a lot more xx

But then it might seem like a much better company, but IF I got offered the job and went there I might actually hate it and regret leaving the company I'm with now. This company is not a bad company at all, in fact it's really good and I'm lucky to have fallen into this job.. they really look after their people and are a huge, huge company. I think the issue is just the money, it's not that I'm unhappy with my job and want to go somewhere else, it's just that I want to be on a salary more reflective of my role. I am thinking the best way forward would just be to find the balls to sit down with my boss and have a good chat about it, rather than go behind his back.. if you can see what I mean xx

I agree with Emma. I'd do both. Speak to your boss and say you have been offered an interview and will be going to it because of the prospects but at the same time like to company and would want to stay so can they do anything

End of the day Flossie there's nothing wrong with going to the interview, getting the experience of it and seeing what its like. You don't need to tell your boss about the interview - did you know the salary the ex employee was on at all? Maybe when you sit down and have the chat all you need to mention is the extra work your doing now 'said employee' has gone and wanting more from the company you love, salary to reflect the new role you've taken on to help etc etc ?
Worst case scenario your boss says no or will look into it new year etc :o) xx

That's just the risk you have to take with a new job, you might not like it but you might love it. If you don't like it you can just start and then look for something else. You really do need to speak to your boss and explain to him how unhappy with the money situation you are, you never know he might be able to do something for you. Just send him and email asking to speak to him when he is available, that's what I did and I was terrified haha xx

The ex colleague was on £47k but he was a "manager" and extremely experienced. I have 3 years experience now and have had no choice but to step up since the ex colleague left, I am also now half responsible for training the new employee, reviewing and editing her work etc. so that's another added responsibility. I think I shall sit down and review salaries other companies are offering for my role, make a list of all my added responsibilities now and things that I do that go above and beyond my role. I just need to find the guts to speak to my boss! I want at least another £5k at my next pay rise xx

I will be terrified too Emma! Thing is I KNOW he knows I should be on more too, so I really don't know what I'm so terrified about. He keeps saying he wants to get me up to a certain salary as soon as he can but is obviously restricted because of higher powers in the company... but surely if he thinks I'm worth that I should be on it now, not in a few years time when hopefully I would be worth even more than that?!

I am the same but I've got to the point where enough is enough, I knew I wasn't going to get a pay rise from just sitting here so I spoke to the manager and now that I've been told it probably won't happen I'm trying to leave. It is definitely worth speaking to him at least then you know where you stand xx

FLossie, sit down with your boss, tell them you have an interview lined up, who knows, they may turn round and offer you more to keep you there. It's a hard one when you like being where you are, but if they cannot offer you what you should be getting, are you really valued by them?? Unless they can offer you more, I'd still go for it.
Been out and done the shopping, came home, cleaned the kitchen of bacon fat and grease that was all over the surfaces. Now I need to pop out to the orange shop as I don't like the @ldi cleaning products. Then back, clean the rest of the house. My son has done his room though and his bathroom spotless.

I have 5 but two are big and left home. My boy helped me in the kitchen as well clearing away the pub load of glasses which were used yesterday whilst I was at work. Emma - just had my third coffee in the past hour where I'm so tired! Been buzzing later - thankfully caffeine doesn't effect me when it comes to bed time! I can literally fall asleep in seconds! And I checked the system and the cars not even gone in yet! They do take the mick with staff recently! Its like they cant be bothered! I even asked them if they could get it in asap so if it does fail on anything then I've got the rest of the day to source the parts and get my dad to arrange getting it done xx

I think it gives me about half hour worth of wake up but after that it goes lol!! Think some 'fresh air' would work better!! lol I've been up since 5.30 so I'm similar at the moment! Eventhough its been every day this week I usually get up about 6.15 and its made such a difference! Its the extra driving as well! :(

Just picked LO up from nursery. He's loved it to say he screamed when I left him this morning.
Been and got a few bits that I needed, cleaned the BBQ ready for tomorrow night when we've got a few friends coming round, weeded the patio. Now wanting to do the drive and shut the gates so LO can play while I'm doing it but my friend just text to say she's dropping a DVD off. So got to wait now.
