ANybody else here had or having a gay / lesbian wedding?

Just wondering what the civil ceremonies are like, assuming run of the mill like any registry office ceremony.

What things did you do that were different to a straight wedding?

My fiancee and i are having the dress debate at the moment, everyone would LOVE to see her in a dress for the ceremony at least, but she isnt so keen and wants a suit ( but in her words doesnt want a dudes suit, but wants trosuers, a waistcoat and cravat lmao)

We are thinking of having a sand ceremony too, but instead of just us pouring the sand in the vases, all of our guests will pour a little bit in.

We are having a rose ceremony and an anniversary box ceremony but we can't do that in the registry office we have decided to just have the normal registry office then a friend is going to over see the other ceremonies on the beach where we live so that way we can have our ideal ceremony and have it ourdoors :)
I'm not sure about civil wedding though but I think as far as the registry office go it's pretty much the same as any other type of wedding. It's best to check with them neaer the time tbh.

a sand ceremony is where you have a large vase with a stopper, and two smaller ones filled with sand, and you each pour some sand into the vase then put the stopper in.

We like the idea as we then have something to keep forever that was made by all our guests on our wedding day.

I would love to go to the beach, we live near one, but worry it will rain. we may have the sand ceremony in my MILTB garden, which isnt huge but will easily hold the 25 guests coming to that part of the day

we have been lucky with our venue and (a beach front hotel) they have let us have the hall for the whole day for free if we use their chef for the food so they have said that if it rains we can hold the ceremony in the hall. all bases covered that way :) I think seaside venue are easier to find on a budget as theres so many trying to get your business so you can knock their prices right down if your nice enough to them :)

We do live near a beach, but i am not sure what the prices are like there....we DID think of having the offical bit in the registry then finding somewhere else outside, with a family member residing over a vow and sand ceremony....due to the cost of having the registrar go outside the offices...
there is a leisure center, a few post restaurants..an italian one.... suppose it is all worth looking into. Thanks

Sadly it will be just my partners side of the family, dont talk to any of mine for various reasons, some dont talk to me since i came out as being in a realtionship with amie 18 months ago.
I was previously in a 12 year long marriage to a man, that was on and of for the 12 years, never saw myself as gay as such, just knew something wasnt quite "me" if that makes sense, we split up beore i even knew my fiance, and once i met her i just knew that she was who i wanted to be with.
We were engaged within 3 months lol, another lesbian friend told me gay relationships move quick, she wasnt joking ha ha ha

We are having a sand ceremony, Adam has dibs on blue sand though (which I wanted) so I don't know. We decided to have two different colours. Also for the life of me I can't find a vase type thing with a stopper :(

see thats what we are all suggesting, a dress literally for the ceremony and photos, and then change into a suit.
she's such a dizzy dyke though, takes her a month to decide what colour trousers she wanted to wear!

    and thank you!

Why does she have to wear a dress?
There are so many beautiful lady suits about. She doesn't have to go all Bianca Jagger but a trouser suit does NOT equal masculinity. If she feels better in a suit she'll probably looks more fabulous in one.

In Austria it's a legal requirement to marry in a civil ceremony and church is only optional. So EVERYONE who wants a church wedding has to have 2 wedding celebrations - it's quite custom to wear a white trouser suit for the civil part and a big dress for the church. It's not a rule but I know many brides who did that - all of them are very girly girls so to me wearing a trouser suit at your wedding is not typically gay.

she doesnt HAVE to wear a dress, but everyone feels she would look stuning in one. She doesnt wear dresses really, because she feels she would look like a drag queen or something (her words)
We are trying to reassure her she wouldnt look awfull. But at the end of the day it is her choice I know, we just dont want her to feel she missed out on wearing a dress later on, because we all feel deep down she would like to wear one for this occasion.

SHe has chosen a lovely waistcoat though, in white with pink pattern on it, and will wear a baby pink cravat. either way she'll look gorgeous to me.

My W2B has no skirts or dresses in her regular wardrobe but she does love getting her glad rags on for black tie and formal events. To my delight, she is insistent on wearing a dress for our wedding :-) We won't see each other's outfits before walking down the aisle though.

I'm a bit worried still as she has chosen her dress (not bought it yet) and any time she shows a picture to friends, their responses tend to be "Really?!" or "I didn't imagine you'd choose that!" or "Won't your shoulders look broad?" uh oh.

I agree Janie, it doesn't matter what our W2Bs wear- they'll look gorgeous to us :-) and at least we can get "married" nowadays

So @Janie and @Gracelet what is happening when you walk up the aisle? Are you walking in together? Or are you meeting your b2b at the altar (or registrar)? Are you travelling to the church together?

On another note, I think it is virtually impossible for a bride to look cr.ap on their wedding day. I think all brides are beautiful, not only because they exude an air of happiness (which automatically makes you look beautiful), but because they just do. No matter what outfit brides wear, they always look amazing. She will look lovely whatever she wears Janie

We may have her dad and grandad walk upw ith the both of us, then the best man etc etc
Dont know how we will be getting to the registry office, we're just going to get family to drive us there in their cars probably.

Barely any of my family will be attending, if any. MOst of them no longer talk to me. MY dad didnt come to my first wedding, and doest believe in this one so dont see the point in having anyone there who doesnt believe in it, and the only other family i talk to is my brother and his partner.

But I know Amie's family will make it a lovely day, theyre awesome people

The walking down the aisle thing is going to be a timing nightmare...

Both of us will be given away by our fathers. Elle wants me to walk down the aisle first and then her after a wee pause. As our wedding is in a castle with accomodation, I'll spend the night there whilst she is spending it at her family home which is 20 mins away. In true diva style, she wants to arrive in a helicopter and for all the guests to go our and greet her. I have to wait inside!!

Going to have to get our best men (yes, there are 3 of them...) to somehow co-ordinate so that I know when to come out as I want everyone watching ME walking down the aisle too but obviously they'll need a bit of time to get inside the room where we are having the ceremony.

    Hmmm. unsure.

She's had such a rough run with women over the years and am so glad that she's found "the one". Can't wait to see what she does for her day. She's not a girly girl but she's got a beautiful figure and would look fantastic in a wedding dress. Only time will tell. x
