I am not massively keen on Garters as my H2B will definitely not taking it off infront of everyone as would hate to be centre of attention while he puts his head up my dress so dont see the point in having one... does anyone know the tradition around it?
Also i mentioned to my H2B i wasnt having one and he said he wanted me to, i asked why and he said it was naughty and looked nice. Maybe im being an old grump here lol xxx

CommentAuthormillz090
Yeah thats a nice idea to pass it down to your daughters.
Yes i think he likes the idea of taking it off me but to be fair he will drink too much anyway and i will end up putting him to bed and get myself undressed so be wasted lol. xxx

I think i remember another thread where someone explained the tradition, but i can't remember what thread it was :s sorry! I'm not having h2b take mine off infront of everyone, but i'm going to wear one anyway just for tradition really. If you don't want to, don't do it, it's up to you xx

I didnt know H2B was supposed to take it off me lol. I bought a cute one from the bay for a fiver - inc delivery. Its black gingham, black lace edged and a red bow :-)
I bought it cos I like the idea of a sneaky garter photo cos it will show off my gorgeous shoes too, which will be hidden most of the time. I always remember my sisters garter from her wedding and always wanted one myself. I didnt really know if there was a relevance to it or why people wear them.
I'm not wearing one, I don't usually so to have it as a only seemed like a waste of money to me!

right i have been on the net and this is the history of a Garter:
There is a European wedding tradition for a bride to wear a garter to her wedding. As part of this tradition, towards the end of the reception, the groom will remove his new wife's garter, which he tosses to the unmarried male guests. The symbolism to deflowering is unambiguous. Historically, this tradition relates to the belief that taking an article of the bride's clothing would bring good luck.[1] In the middle ages, the groom's men would rush at the new bride to take her garters off her as a prize.[2] As this often resulted in the destruction of the bride's dress, the tradition arose for the bride to surrender articles of her clothing, which were tossed to the guests, including the garter.[1] Nowadays, the privilege of removing the bride's garter is reserved to the groom, while the bride will toss her bouquet. Another superstition that has circulated is the male equivalent of the bride throwing her bouquet to the unmarried ladies. According to this superstition, the unmarried male wedding guest who successfully catches the garter will be the next man to be headed to the altar from the group of single men at that wedding. Traditionally, the man who caught the garter and the lady who caught the bouquet would share the next dance.[1]

I'm not having one! Like millz says above its usual for the groom to take it off then throw to the single men and then the bride to throw the bouquet to the single ladies! iT IS ALSO QUITE COMMON FOR THE GARTER TO BE THE BRIDES "something blue"
I have BLUE shoes instead so no need for a garter as I dont like them lol
ps sorry about the caps the wrong way but I cant be bothered to rewrite LMAO

Theres a great page on book face that makes gorgeous hand made ones!! i'll prob have one but certainly wont be showing anyone or removing it in front of people!!
my poor sister bought 1 for her wedding day, didnt try it on before hand then discovered it didnt fit her!! oopps. If its associated with being 'naughty' i dont think i like the idea of passing it onto my daughter!
CommentAuthorHa_x3
that reminds me halis my garter has a bit of blue on it.. my H2B wont be throwing it to anyone seeing as we have no guests attending lol

thats different and a nice twist on a traditional garter.
he wont be throwing it so whats the point, complete waste of money as no one will be seeing it.

I wore one as my something blue, just for good luck. Although, having said that, I forgot to put it one for my handfasting- got a bridesmaid to retrieve it so I could slip it on before the registry.

I don't see the point of them either, seem a bit trashy to me lol.

My friend has bought me one. I might flash it at hubby and have a photo taken like I did the first time I got married. I kept my first one for several years but then the elastic perished so I chucked it away, wasn't going to wear it again ;)
Finally Mrs Grove :)

Awww I love the idea of having a garter, even if I don't go for the whole throwing it to the single men thing. I just think its kind of naughty for your H2B to know you're wearing sexy lingerie all day ;) xx
