    I was born on a Friday 13th :)

Hmm what about horseshoes and the silver sixpence in your shoe to start? If you have a bit of give in the budget you could always hire a chimney sweep as well!

.."She'll promise you more than the Garden of Eden
Then she'll carelessly cut you and laugh while your bleeding
But she'll bring out the best and the worst you can be
Blame it all on yourself 'cos she's always a woman to me.."

chimney sweep never heard of that one. I wanted to give a bit of luck out to everyone as well, so was thinking a sixpence to all guests aswel. Want as much lucky things as i can have. I can get horse shoes easily but how would i dress them or put them where? x

Horse shoes, 4 leaf clovers, rabbits feet (not so lucky for the rabbit though!), ladybugs, wishbones, lucky shooting star and in ancient egypt scarab beetles were lucky as they symbolised the renewal of life.

The sixpence is a nice idea :) What about the 5 sugared almonds traditionally given as favours, they are meant to bring good luck I think? I am giving scratchcards out as my favours, I might have to steal your sixpence idea so they have something lucky to scratch them with!

As for horseshoes I've seen miniature ones tied to garters, mixed in with bouquets or added to flower centrepieces, real ones I am not sure on that! Do you have a venue sorted yet and might they allow you to put one over the door? Probably doubtful now the world has gone health and safety mad but worth an ask!

Do you happen to have a black cat? :)

In Italy fish are lucky and in my country (Austria) chimney sweeps, pigs and toadstools - along with the mentioned horseshoe and a 4 leaf clover.

My mum asked me if I was going to get a chimney sweep for our wedding because they are lucky. Apparently my sister had one at her wedding which is bizarre as I have no recollection of a random guy with soot on his face being there. Mum says some of them can be hired for weddings. If I'm going to have a chimney sweep though, it has to be dick van dyke and I want him to do the step in time dance. Maybe I've been watching too much Mary Poppins. x

    I can't wait until 29/06/2013
The day I marry the man of my dreams!

The young Dick van Dyke please :-)

In Austria we give out mentioned things as miniature charms for your wallet on New Years Eve. In the week after christmas the streets fill up with random stalls where you can buy them. And if you see a real life chimney sweep (at any time of the year but they tend to knock at doors at the beginning of the year for the yearly inspection) you are meant to turn a button to the left. And I do this every time I see one - which is never in this country though :-)
