    Hi ladies

I was hoping someone could help

My OH and I go on our honeymoon the day after our wedding and we know we will have quite a bit of wedding cake left over so we're not sure what to do with it whilst we are away.

We've been told to freeze it but is that right? Has anyone else froze a wedding cake?!

If its fruit then yep thats fine, I froze our top tier when i married the ex and when defrosted it it tasted just as nice as on the day!

Tradiontion says to keep the top tier for 1st baby's christening, so freezing is the best option!

I will have to share it out for people if I can't freeze it, which will be a shame if I don't get to keep a bit of my own cake lol
Steve will be OK, he's got his own!

yep I froze portions of my birthday cake and it was ace! divided it up into portions, and wrapped each one in cling film. Then when i wanted a bit I would just take it out of the freezer and pop it on the kitchen worktop for about 15mins and then it was lovely and ready to eat! Had eaten it all within 2 weeks so not sure how long it would have lasted.

we are taking a tupperware tub with us to the wedding and telling the venue to fill it with cake! we are leaving the morning after the wedding for honeymoon so going to order some champagne on the plane and eat our wedding cake. Cant wait.

Not wanting to rain on your parade linzi, but I don't think you can get any food or drink past the initial security check now in airports - from check in to the main waiting lounge - so I don't think you can take your cake on the plane, they might confiscate it!

I have definitely been given samples of sponge cake which have been defrosted - so the cake makers do it!

Linzi, thats a great idea! I'm going to see if I can take some cake with us for the place, I'm flying with BA and I've checked and I cant find anything saying you cant take food and we're going 1st class they might be a little more relaxed..

hi for those wanting to take wedding cake with them on honeymoon, i have found this on Heathrow's website (where i am flying from):

"What foodstuffs can I carry in my hand luggage? Can I take my wedding cake?

You can take most solid food, including wedding cake. Food in sauces or dishes that have a high liquid content will need to be in containers 100ml or less, which must be put into your transparent, resealable bag."

it seems to be a common thing for people to do. so it is clear we can take wedding cake with us :) xx

i think i might trial it, but a cheap birthday cake from a shop and freeze it, or the birthday cake that my OH is going to make for my birthday i might try freezing some of that to see what happens. we are going to cut the cake on the night of the wedding and box it up. give it to everyone at the night do and then also give some more to people who stay at the hotel. the portions will be quiete large though as i'm hoping to get rid of it on the night do!

anything thats left i will sending home with my parents and parents in law to distribute/eat and get fat lol

I love the idea of taking some wedding cake with you so i might do just that!is it okay to borrow your idea?

yay! I just cant wait for that moment when we are on the plane with our wee box of cake and glass of champers. after that it will be hello zimovane and goodnight 10hour flight! always take a sleeping tablet with me so I can sleep on overnight flights. Wake up in time to go freshen up and have a coffee in time for landing
