We have been advised not to just do beers and wines free, apparently guest complain. So we have been trying to decide what the best option

It could be open to abuse hun. I had a thread a while ago on open bars and the response was overwhelmingly against having one. I'll bump it for you to have a read.

Blooming heck, if I was doing free wine and beer and the guests complained they'd get a kick in the you know where!

We went to a wedding with a free bar and it was great, although everyone did get quite sizzled quite early!

I went to a friends wedding who put £1500 behind the bar, it went in 15 mins! As nice gesture as it is, it can cost a fortune!

I wouldnt do either to be honest.

If going to do something free would prefer free bar as I only drink archers or vodka so It really annoys me (yes should be greatful) but annoys me when everone else gets free drinks but I cant and also I would offer it free anyway as you always get someone that takes the mick and abuses it!!!

if any of my guests complained that free beer and wine wasnt enough, Id go absolutely bonkers, its rude and ungrateful, especially considering the costs of weddings

Im just putting one bottle of red and one bottle of white on each table, and that's all they are getting

There's no such thing as a FREE bar and that's where the
Problem lies people rake the mic because someone else is paying!!

I think it's a bad idea, people abuse them and you don't need the extra expense. I expect to pay for our own drinks at a wedding reception.

I don't think a free bar is a bad idea.. People should be grateful for the food & drink you're already providing them instead of moaning that they have to pay for their own drinks.. They don't HAVE to drink if they really don't want to pay for it. For ours, we're paying our a welcome drink & toast drink, that's it. Water will be provided for during the meal, if they want to drink anything else, they can buy it.. Weddings aren't just a free p*** up.. Please don't feel obliged to do it, it'll cost a fortune! xx

i wouldn't have a free bar either, you've spent so much on your day as it as (and on guests.. food, favours etc.) i definitely wouldn't expect free drinks at a wedding. it's an unnecessary cost to you and everyone will be grateful for what you have already given them throughout the day.
in our package deal we have 3 drinks per person (one for arrival, one for meal and champagne to toast) but they can buy their own after those! x
