    Hiya Ladies,

So I've been trying to keep just how upset and angry I am since Tuesday now and I really need some empathy and I know that you ladies will completely understand.

So we went to see a venue on 15th February. It was everything we wanted for our Christmas wedding, plus we already knew the hotel as myself and my fiancee spent a long weekend there a couple of years back and found the trip lovely, the staff and surrondings being unbeatable. So when we went to view it we both pictured our wedding there and was told that our date (17th December, this year) would be held for four weeks.

Anyway then it was half term which was V busy for us and so I phoned the registrare on Monday (28th) to ask about booking them for the chosen venue etc. etc. So on Tuesday I then phoned the hotel wedding co-ordinator to book the date and arrange payment of the deposit. Anyway she set off by asking how the wedding planning was going so I explained how I had phoned the registarars to book them and she interrupted me by asking 'for what date' so I said '17th December' and apparantly she has booked that date already plus the 18th and was I interested in the 19th? 20th? 21st? I said 'No, my Mum works during the week (and December is her busiest time). And I then said how she said she would hold the date for four weeks. Well she replied I wasn't aware I had a date to save. OMG. So I then asked about January so she asked if the day after New years day was any good. So I said No. She then explained how the first two saturdays in January are booked already and is holding the 21st for us. I mean WTF that is no good for us. My partner is off from the 14th Dec to 21st making that Saturday the only Saturday which is any good for us.

So since Tuesday I've been trawling the internet looking for venues which are both lovely and within our price range, I feel so dissapointed and dis-heartened. We are going to view two tomorrow another one on Thursday and then another one next Sunday. I just hope I (at least) fall in love with one of them. And that we don't get messed around again as I cannot believe how much this has affected me I've been unable to sleep through sheer worry. I just want it sorted out now. :-(

    Thanks for reading xx

Thats really upsetting, you must feel crushed. The venue haven't done what they said they would and thats not on, but there's nothing you can do about it as you hadn't paid a deposit unfortunately.
Try to view your other venues with an open mind and don't compare them to the venue that let you down. You may find one that you like better that may not be what you thought you were looking for!
I think venues are a bit like dresses, you think you know what you want but then you try one on thats not your 'style' and thats the one you go for!
Good luck and I hope you do find a venue you can fall in love with x

aww hun, you seem really stressed by everything. I'm sure you'll find somewhere you love just as much as the other one! I've been having issues with finding a photographer. found one we loved and she rang me last week to say she's been asked to be a bridesmaid for her best friend who's just got engaged and her wedding date will be the same as ours! so trying to find someone else now. its stressful to say the least! Not sure if that was any help but didn't want to read and run! xx

    Thank you x

Yep as soon as we find a new venue I am certainly going to be writing a letter of complaint as this has really affected me to the point where it has not only surprised myself but my fiancee too, as I was truly laid back to the whole bridal experience. So if it can effect me to this extent then I really don't wish this on any other (less laid back) bride to be.

Will let you know how tomorrow goes.

    :-)

I would definitely write a letter of complaint. I know it doesn't seem like it at the minute but I think you have had a lucky escape, because if this is how they do business imagine if they agreed to certain conditions and then later down the line denied it. I always email the venue I am dealing with, so that when I have a query I need answering I have their response in black and white. Unfortunately to some people this is just a job, whereas to you it's one of the most important days of your life. I sign the contract on Monday and have typed up all my questions and their answers, which I want as part of the contract. I'm will just politely point out to the lady, that should she leave before I get married it is to guarantee that the terms remain as per our agreement. You will definitely find somewhere else and when you do, you will be relieved that your first choice was booked up.

I think you are right Lisa it has been a lucky escape. We saw two other venues yesterday and after the first which was shambolic (another thread I'm sure) the second was perfect. It was the assistant manager that showed us round and really sold the hotel and didn't leave one question unanswered. She was absolutely spot-on with everything including the fact that the road is always gritted even though it's a country hotel as it's a main link for emergency services between towns, right down to the fact that obviously we went with our children so she explained that any children can have chicken nuggets on the day if they prefere.

So I can settle down now and day-dream about it again. Just phoned the registery office and waiting for them to call me back, to arrange it so I can confirm and send deposit now!

Phew what a rollercoaster- probably the first of many!

    :-)

Think a writing a letter is great idea, we've done that with the first place that we went to look round and fell in love with. The wedding planner there was useless! In the end we had a meeting with her as we'd had very little contact and she assured us that everything would be ok..then we didn't hear from her in over a month, and the email that we did get told us that they were putting there prices up!! So we sat down and composed a very 'nice' email in return pointing out all the shortfalls of the woman we dealt with.......just waiting for a reply! We've now got an even better venue that's amazing and the woman there is brilliant!

So pleased that you've got it all sorted and your back to day dreaming :-) x

That is so annoying and bad on the venue, I would write a letter to complain about the service you might not get the date you wanted but they might give you a freebie
