    HI GIRLS.

I havent been on for ages, we have been so busy, we have moved, got a puppy, continued working, and obviously (like i have to say it) its full swing wedding season! and we are blooming tiered!

so, here i am, if you need any advice just ask, i will try and pop on for the next couple of nights, i like reading all th new trends and ideas lol!! gives me ideas to tell our customers!

    love and best wishes x

    2 GIRLS THEN ASKED

Hi... I do need ideas with flowers... I want simple, white and gold themed. can u help? can u also give me an idea with costs for like church and reception, bouquets etc?

    Thank u :)

    AND

i havent budgeted for flowers as i dont have a clue what they cost, i really want something simple in yellow and white maybe using leucanthemum but i dont know where to start do is it as simple as just walking into a florist and sorting there and then. x

    MY REPLIES WERE

hiya, gold is a hard one, the best thing to do maybe is to add gold gems, or beads or ribbons (theres not much fresh flower wise thats gold- its more yellowy or lemony looking) we have used white roses, with gold sprayed greenery beofre, just the tips so it still looks reasonably natural.
it depends where your based with flower prices, as some of the girls on here will tell you it can vary from shop to shop in the same street, but it deffinalty does vary from location, it seems "futher up the counrty you are cheaper it seems to be, lower down the more money it seems to cost" its not just the flowers that are more money, the rents over heads, wages etc are more too... i would get a couple of qoutes and see what you think to them, then if need be think about things you dont need, always book well in advance, we have turned a few people away latley as we just dont have the space or hours in the day

    AND

your open to different flowers, lillies, roses, chrysanth, carnations, gerberas ect,,, so price wise it should be reasonable, we mostly just deal with people when they come into the shop and go through prices with them then and there, some florists operate and appointment book, never ever just go in and ask for a price list and leave, sometimes there as much use as a chocolate fire gaurd, prices vary so much, and its so hard to have a from and to price, its easier to work out what you want and for a florist to just give you a price based on that, we try yo steer people away from the "price list" and just tell them the price for what they want, every order is different and every price is different, so go in ask what they think, prices ect,, ask a couple and go with the people you feel most confident with, or someone has recomended you, or a florsit you use regularly.

ANY MORE QUESTIONS LADIES, I WILL TRY AND CONTINUE TO COME ON AND CHECK AND REPLY TO YOU.

    THANKS XX

Hi there I'd love some advice! I have decided on midnight blue for bridesmaid with silver accessories and my dress is slightly off white. No idea about flowers, I like roses but H2B wants something more traditionally scottish! Can you get purple heather and thistles etc in a boquet and do you think this would look ok with these colours? Ta x x x

    hi,

most florists would be able to get hold of thistle for you to include in a bouquet, the thistles are probabaly slightly palers than your midnight blue, but would co-ordiante nicley, heather is more purpley/liliacy and is only available at certain times, but wit it being quiet a dry looking flower it would probably be ok to use these in artificial within a fresh bouquet, and perhaps use diamantes in silver to add your silver to the bouquet, and maybe ask for silver ribbon to be used to wrap the bouquets in .

hi, i'm having a calla lily and ivy bouquet because I think they are very elegant and quite simple, however I am getting tired of people saying they are funeral flowers, i.e, my mother, my H2B, people at work, etc etc. Why are they SO associated with funerals when so many brides are choosing them these days? Is it just an old fashioned idea? Or are they getting confused with the bigger open lilies (the ones that get pollen all over you and are very showy!) Help! Am I having funeral flowers??? The bridal magazines would disagree!

lol!! hi janey, calla lillies are not "funeral flowers" far from it - its very very very rare people have them for funeral flowers, and they are generally used when young people pass away, my best friend had them she was 18, but it was because they were young, modern, trendy flowers, because thats what most reflected her!

to be very honest there isnt much of a "funeral trend" flowerise anymore, people have the colours and flowers they want, or thier relative liked. older people associate red and white - with blood and bandages, but when it comes to weddings its a romantic, rich colour, so its swings and roundabouts with everything, people have different flowers in different cultures, different flowers mean different things to different people.

the other lillies your reffering to are stargazers (smell lolvey, and have orange stain - yep) these are meant to be associated with funerals, as in years and years ago, and its generally older people who think this, again its the like the calla lillies, they are normally used for thier beautiful smell, and modern and trendy look, everyhting comes in and out of fashion as my nan says!! to be honest, its your wedding! have what you want!! your only going to do it once right?

calla lillies wernt really used in wedding flowers untill a few years ago and some celeb had them in thier wedding bouquet and thats when they came back tredny again, thats same summer calla lillies in white were costing £15 per flowers +vat at the wholesalers!!! arrgghhhhh complete nightmare! now you tell me why they would cost that if they wernt trendy!!lol!!

as an example some people think carnations are old fashioned, and wouldnt dream of having them in theier wedding bouquets, but im seeing them creeping back in, in them glossy wedding mags, and alot of the time its for the colours, mixed bouquets are in this season, and its probably down to the economic "mess" mixed bouquets can be seasonal, therefore cost less!!

the moral of the post "each to their own" i love em, you love em, other people love em, its just some dont, buts its your day!!

have a great day!! and i hope you tell them lol!!

    best wishes xx

    hi,

hypercicum, roses, lilies, carnations, chysanthemums, blooms, freesia, gerberas, orchids, anthuriums, proteas, septmeber, aster, alstromeria,

and lots more besides, there the ones i can think of off the top of my head, the best thing to do is ask a florist when your getting your quotes and they should be able to tell you and show your pictures of each one so you can decide which you would like together, you will also need all the flowers writing down so you can ask for the same thing from each quote, then your getting prices for the same things.

    love and best wishes x

I'm getting married in march and didn't really want real flowers (several huge hayfever sufferers in our party and i want to be selfish and keep them all lol)
We have a running theme of navy blue and yellow (which is tartan) and wanted to somehow incorporate the colors into the bouquet, but also would like artificial flowers that would also reflect the season (if that makes sense) any help or advice would be great thanks :) x

OK...I have been musing over the fact I *may* actually want some flowers in my Feather bouquet.

My theme is the Peacock feather. My BM dresses are going to be a Navy blue or Apple Green.

I am getting hitched in Scotland..so Thistles would be good..also I HATE dyed flowers!

    Whattya think?

hi, think that if you are having freesias in bouquet then this is fine, as the roses will provide them with some support, however ask your florist herself, as she may be wiring the freesias to make them stay where they are put, but wether permitting, it may be a better idea to have a rose and a sprig of freesia. im sure your particular florist will be able to give you a bit of advice, as she knows how she will actually make them (everyone works a little bit differently) and if she is confident and your happy, thn stick to freesias.

hope this helps, love and best wishes (have a great day, not long to go)

hi, you can still have seasonal flowers even if your having silk, with the idea of them being more realisitc again, im guessing.

you can get hyacinths, daffys, pansys, freesia, roses, gerberas, alsorts, often with spring weddings wholesalers do get lots of silk flowers in to match the theme, whith churches for example decorating for easter with it being reliogious, also florists will use them to decorate windows, so there is always something around for them to be used in wedding bouquets

    hope this helps,

    love and best wishes

hi, your colour scheme is a hard and popular one, as im sure you may have already found out, there is not much that is natually available, there are some lovley deep purple orchids, but not much else actually purple.

its the same with blue! its quiet easy to do shades of colours, but not a single colour, thats why somethimes its easier and looks better if you stick to all ivory/white flowers, on my profile on here there is a photo of fresh flowers that have really deep purple dresses which have ivory flowers, as it was sooooo hard to match. feel free to have a look, and print out.

    hope this helps,

    love and best wishes

hi, there isnt really a purple rose, there is a lilacy colour though, which is easy to get hold of, they are more expensive than the standard colours, and will need to be ordered a couple of weeks in advance by your florist.

the thisle is slightly more blue than purple, but will all tone in together nicely, this is normally avaiable in september, ifact most of the year round if need be it can be sourced.

hope this helps, love and best wishes

hi, i cant really answer the question as to what they should cost, i think i have said before it vairies from shop to shop, area to area, nearer or in cities will always be higher they have more overheads, so have to charge more,
ive heard of people being qouted £250 for a hand-tie of roses before now, so its a hard one, there is no set rule, its up to each individual owner, but i would make sure you get a few qoutes, go with someone who you feel confident in, cheep is not always best, bear that in mind! or if someone has told you of a good place go with them.

    really, you need
    you
    bridesmaids,
button hole - groom, best man, ushers, paige boys, dads (any other guests you wish to provide for)
corsages - mums and nasns normally
thankyou flowers - for anyone who you wish to thnk for support, or making things
top table arrangment/signing table/altar - can be used twice to cut the cost
pew ends - can be alternated with bows to keep costs lower, or just have 2 at the top 2 at the bottom
pedestal arrangements - for the bottom of the isle, or the church entrance
    guest table arrangements
you can use the pedestal arrangements again to decorate the venue.

and i think thats about it.

    hope this helps,

    love and best wishes

i would have thistles, there less "flowery" so should look more fitting to the bouquet, your also having the theme in your wedding and the dresses will match
    or there is heather too!

Hi, I'm having a sage green and ivory theme and really love gerberas and was thinking of just having ivory gerberas with lost of green grass in the posies. But now i'm not so sure as the flowers will just blend in with my dress and won't see them in the photos. What do you think about bright pink gerberas for me and ivory for bridesmaids?? I can't decide!!

We are on a tight budget as we earn under 16000 a year. We have chosen our venue and know that hopefully going to be our only expense at around £3000(not payed for yet or booked, they have however logged our date down as 5th November 2011). I have already chosen my dress and accessories (pics on profile). My dress is £99 and bridesmaid dresses are £60 each. Not sure on other expenses as of yet. Our colour scheme is black and purple.

    Any advice on low prices???
We are mostly worried on the cost of videographer and photographer?? advice would be so helpful

This is my first wedding so havnt really got a clue on what im doing lol, hope im not asking too much. Please PM me if you would like to have my email address so we can chat properly if this is too much, thanks from Terri xx
