I went for a food tasting at my venue today and what a disappointment it was. I took my wife to be and the in-laws the starters were great but then came the main courses we chose turkey with all the trimmings, lamb with mint gravy, beef with onion gravy
1. the turkey was as dry as cardboard the chipolata was burnt and they forgot the chestnut stuffing 2. the lamb came out with normal gravy wen we complained they fetched out a gravy boat of mint sauce 3. the beef was tender but over cooked as the edges were as tough as old boots and curling up looks like they re-heated it at least my fish cakes were ok
when we complained about it all they fetched the chef out I explained what was wrong he looked dumfounded. his excuse was he was the acting head chef well if that's the case he needs a new career
the manager then came and he explained they had a lot on and should of re- scheduled our tasting that's no excuse there was only 4 of us here for the tasting what's it going to be like with 140-200 guests on the day he then said I can fully understand and that we didn't have to pay today and asked to make another appointment for a fresh tasting
WHAT A TOTAL DISASTER

That's a disappointment. Is this the first time you've sampled the food at this venue? At least you're 13 months out so you have time to get this sorted. When is your next tasting scheduled?
CommentAuthorReginaldD
yes it was the first time at tasting but had reports the food was suppose to be excellent I haven't re scheduled another tasting yet but if it isn't up to my liking I will be giving them two options
1. I want my money back that I've already paid £3000.00 and take my business elsewhere 2. get there act together if I get more than half my guests complaining about the food on the day then I want all my money back that I have paid for the food
Thats not good. As you have a while until you get married i wouldnt worry to much as they may have a new chef by then, Tell the venue your not happy and if its not perfect on the day you want a refund. I have been to a venue near me for 2 weddings in 2 years and the first was amazing, everything from timings to the food and staff was perfect. Second time round was bad, I heard the staff talking bad about a guest who asked for more gravy. The timings were real off and the food was horrible. Nobody really ate the dessert. This really worried me as it goes to show it dont matter what you pay anywhere its just luck if it goes to plan or not. The first bride had been to 4 weddings at her venue and said not 1 had gone the same.

If the bloke was only acting head chef, it sounds like they will be getting another in to replace him.
It's such a shame and additional stress, too, as even if the next tasting is excellent, you will always be wondering if they put in an extra special effort because they know you'll complain and I'm guessing it's going to cause worry until the day.

Congrats on yr wedding Laura hope everything went well on yr big day
And going back to my issue that's my thoughts exactly

And this is why you should always have trials and samples!
At least you know so you have time to sort it. Also, give them chance to sort it out. You're right, it's not a great excuse but hey, everyone has a bad day.
If the tasting isn't up to scratch, demand a refund for breach of contract.
And we lived happily ever after!

Your feedback should be important to them. If the turkey was dry, then as a customer they should listen to your feedback, and make sure it's perfect on the day

Woohoo, so pleased for you both - Just goes to show the difference between 'acting' and 'actual' head chef!

My venue is a barn and she doesn't have a set menu so i dont even think we can taste the food beforehand...maybe ill ask her sometime next year if we can and see what she says, i dont want to offend her though and make her think i'm questioning her cooking skills but i also dont want to eat poop food on my wedding day... Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!
All this food talk is making me hungry!
