Just a quick Question of opinion for you all - esp since you were all so helpful with my last question about my H2B wanting to move the time of the ceremony to an hour earlier (he is still being smug that you all agreed with him btw lol).

I was reading up on wedding etiquette online and regarding flowers, found a segment which said the mothers of the bride and groom should be given a buttonhole, or wrist corsage to wear on the day. I hadn't planned any flowers for the mothers, as I didn't realize they were meant to have any. Our theme is black and white, my bridesmaids flowers are black and ivory/white, my flowers are ivory and white, the men's button holes are ivory with light purple thistles and the ribbons to match their clan. I wasn't certain of getting them something also, in case it clashes with whatever they will eventually choose to wear for the day. Ugh. Apparently there is much I have missed in my research on all the cr*p you are meant to sort out for your wedding.

    So in short,
Have/did you all get flowers in buttonhole or corsage form, for the mothers?
Is it something which is expected?

Yeah I'd say it's expected to get the mother's buttonholes. I got one for my mum and grandma. I wouldn't worry about it clashing with their outfit, but maybe ask if they'd prefer a buttonhole or a wrist corsage? X

    Nope we didn't ....

What about a single cream/ivory rose .. Will go with everything BUT ask the florist to do them with a magnetic fixing as then it's not going to pull on fabric

Given that my weding is so far away i have asked both mothers to have their outfits picked out no later than 4 months before the wedding so that i can take a picture and send it to my flower lady to make the bottonholes/corsages to match their outfits. xx

We didn't do this for my mum (hubby's mum passed away before we'd even met). I don't think I've been to any weddings where the mothers had them x

Thats helpful girlies! Thank you!! Ive been looking at the same people who made my foam buttonholes for the men, and think Ive found something I can buy for them! Unfortunately my mum will likely not figure an outfit out until the last minute, however, if I go for ivory like my flowers, then hopefully I cant make a mistake!!

    Thanks girlies!

I have no idea, I know I will not be buying any flowers for my Mum, as she has to fly back home the next day. Suppose if your Mum has raised you (mine didn't), and she is there for you ( mine isn't), then it might be nice to buy her some

Yeah, my mum and I might have our differences, but she did raise me. I will be getting her something nice anyway too, as she is in love with butterflies she is getting a butterfly garden for her new house and a brooch of a pearl butterfly for the wedding too. She deserves it! But its good to know what others have done, as i wasnt going to give a buttonhole or corsage to them, but at least by giving her an ivory one, it wont mess up any outfit she chooses!

    Thanks girlies!

Mine had two ivory and one purple rose buttonhole. My mum wore purple so it was fine, Jon's mum wore navy and red but still wore it without saying a word

lol I think my mum might not say anything if she didnt like it, but Dave's mother certainly would! It has been a nightmare planning some parts of the wedding without her getting far too involved in it. She is a vegetarian, strict. Which is fine, we offered to make her a plate with her favourite stuff and cling film it because she hates food which has the risk of having been touched by meat tongs...fine. But she then started complaining about the fact we are having a hog roast and that the smell will make her ill, the sight of it will make her ill and that we should have a vegetarian meal. *insert swear word here and + off* She is a meddler. lol So wasnt going to give her a button hole or corsage, in case it gave her something else to complain about or refuse to wear. But you know what ladies, I am actually past the point of no return of caring lol i have under 5 months to go and I have run out of pander-ing-patience hahaha.

So I have found beautiful ivory buttonholes and will leave it up to her hahaha

Best way to be susie. I was the same - worrying about pleasing the mil, then decided stuff it,it's my wedding if she don't like it tough! Makes planning a lot easier when only trying to please me and hubby! X ☺

We are getting our Mums a buttonhole, we are keeping the colours ivory and a little bit of greenery so as not to clash with anything they decide to wear.
