Hello ladies! I wonder if some of you can help me - I'm thinking about doing my wedding flowers myself but don't really know what flowers will be in season when we get married! My bridesmaids are wearing pale blue and my dress is ivory so we've pretty much decided on a combination of cream, pale blue and lemon yellow flowers for myself and the bridesmaids. As I'm going to have quite a lot I really want to buy in-season flowers to keep the cost down - I'm going to need my bouquet, 4 bridesmaids bouquets and a pomander for the flower girl, and also the centrepieces for the reception and buttonholes for the men.
Can anybody give me some advice on which would be the best types of flowers to use please? I'd like to have a practice run at it this year when the same flowers will be available. Thanks in anticipation! :o)
oh yeah, forgot to say when we're getting married - its May 12th!!

Thanks for the suggestion! I have seen them but hadn't really considered them, although not ruled them out either. I may decide to just make the centrepieces if I can get bouquets for me and the girls at a decent price, although don't know where to even start looking! Everywhere I've looked seems really expensive :o( xx

Ive seen some lovely silk bouquets on the bay I have seen one I love (pic in my things i want album)

Worth a look if you want to think of fake flowers (they are usually cheaper)

If its real flower's just google spring flowers and you will find lists on there

I've tried that, but its really difficult to find a list with specific colours, they're all jumbled together and I'm just too lazy to trawl through them all writing down flower names! lol. I've resorted to googling images and then working out whats in the ones I like. I'll look into silk flowers, thanks xx
raekim84 - I really really wanted hydrangeas but they're not in season in May! Thats what I'd decided on but then realised that they're a summer blooming flower, not spring. gutted :o(

Thank you! Ooh and I've just looked at your shoes - they're amazing! I'd ask where they were from but they're far too high for me, my H2B would look tiny compared to me if I wore something like that :o)

If you are wanting to make your own have you thought about using foam or latex flowers? They look more real than silks and means you can make them well in advance. Even if I were a florist I don't think I would want the stress of trying to make them on my wedding morning. They need to be fresh as they will wilt on the day and you have better things to be doing that morning like getting ready and relaxing. You don't need to be panicking if things don't go to plan.

I know what you mean, I've bought myself some books to see how its done and they say that you can buy them 2 days before and make them the day before the wedding - I have enlisted the help of a couple friends already who are happy to make them with me the day before. I definitely wont be doing them on the actual morning as I'm getting married at 1 so wouldn't have time! Thanks for the advice though, I'll look into the other types of artificial ones xx

Just go into a florist and tell them what you'd like and get them to suggest ones for you - also I think these days they can get most flowers all year round, so I don't think it matters as much.
Our florist was brilliant, so I'd recommend just going into a couple and seeing what they have to say xx

Is there a flower wholesalers any where near you? You could go and have a look around at the flowers they have in and what the prices are there and then get the ones you want to do your practice ones.

Just a quick note on the going to the warehouses. What you can do is tell them you are trade as you can set up as a sole trader. You could tell them that you have just set up and ask them what their minimum orders are. All you would need to do is create a company name and print out a letter head on paper etc. I'm about to set up as a sole trader and its easy enough to go to manufacturers and wholesalers to enquire as you are just setting up. They deal with the likes of me all the time and it may mean that you can get them cheaper than if you said you were public.

have decided to go for silk flowers! Still going to arrange them myself but I think it will take the stress out of having to do them the day before! Got plenty of time to get them done then and they will be one less thing to worry about nearer the time. Found a great place that sells single stems which is just what i wanted :o)
