I know I posted recently about an artificial flower quote and some of you commented back... but HELP!!

I have just come back from a consultation with a florist, and she was so friendly, and you know when there's that something about them, you know you have a good feeling? Well we got that from her....however when I mentioned other quotes I have received (dumbed down the price a bit, the way I've been taught to) she seemed utterly shocked at how low they were!
I know sometimes it is a case of spend that little bit more when you feel its right too, or find a decent bargain online...doesn't necessarily mean scrimping on quality or anything like that if spending less, because ideally we want to spend as low as possible, but have no idea what a 'decent' price is! I haven't gone down bay of e route or online based because I don't know 100% what I am after, and prefer sitting down with someone to discuss in detail.
Having never planned a wedding before or been within a florist business we have no idea if we will get a good deal or whether we will be ripped off... my mother and I are completely perplexed by it all!!

Looking at having shower bouquet, 2 bridesmaids, flower girl wand, 2 wrist corsages, 6 buttonholes (Grooms slightly different)
then having top table flower arrangement which will be used for ceremony too, two pedestal flower arrangements to be used in ceremony, reception & evening, and then 4-5 flower arrangements for tables.

What I was wondering is whether you lovely ladies, can give me an idea of what sort of price you paid from your florist and what for ??

We have another consultation tomorrow with another florist so will see what sort of quote she comes up with, but one from today will get back to me by end of play tomorrow or Saturday latest.

    Thanks xx

Iv seen foam rose bouquets for bridesmaids for about £29 each. I seen brides bouquet range from £60 to £120 depending on size style and type of foam flower used. Buttonholes £3.50 and corsages appox £8.50. I havent seen prices for church flowers yet. I am now making my own as i think my quotes were quite expensive for foam flowers.

Yeh think ours will be more on the expensive side by sounds of it!! mentioning at least 70-80 for my bouquet alone!
But yeh we shall see what the one tomorrow says as well as seeing what the quote comes back as from todays!
I suppose I shouldn't moan, someone is taking the time out to make something from scratch and unique for me, and if they were real flowers I would expect to pay a bit more as we're wanting calla lillies which I know don't come cheap!
Just to get a little heads up on what to expect - she did ask what our budget was, but we couldnt really give her one as don't really know what is right to go for within a florist!!
I know I can get quite cheap flowers done online, and am definitely not attempting to do them myself even though that is probably the more affordable route - but don't have patience or creativeness to be honest!

    Ah ok thanks ladies
MrsK2b - we're looking at having Calla Lillys for the majority of the bouquets/buttonholes and what not. with accents of turquoise and silver bear trees or whatever they are called (them long bendy things)
Then the top table arrangement and 2 pedestal type arrangements will be real flowers and just some fresia/roses type thing.
And hiring of vase/mirrored plates... will find own candles/tea lights and scatter diamonds.

So quite a varied price going on here! hmmm will be interesting to see what quotes I got from the 2 different florists!

MrsK2be your flowers look gorgeous, love the colours :)

well today's one was awful... i don't understand how she is in business...massive shop few bits on the floor and that was it...and the 'consultation' propped up at the till for 10 minutes!! hmmm....
popped into a couple of local ones that mom found on her walk this morning just for a quote idea, and then one that we know is wayyyy too expensive as a very well known florist! But gives us a good variety of prices to work with & hopefully yesterday's will send us a quote asap... have a good feeling about her, but somehow price may let her down :S we shall see!

Was also thinking whats good with our flowers is yes ok the quote may be a bit more than we'd like but as most are artificial, we're paying x amount for a lifetime as flowers can be re-arranged into an arrangement for a vase or something etc. so won't feel like too much as not really going to waste? But still, there is limits!!

Thanks for your help ladies xx

I'm along the same lines as MrsK2B price wise. H2B and I have got from the same supplier (she's a preferred supplier of our reception venue):

Chair covers and sashes 100 approx. (numbers TBC nearer the day but she's flexible and won't charge more for an extra 10 or so)
11 table centres - mirror base, cylinder case, floating candles and flower heads, night light candles, sprinkles and petals scattered
16 single stem gerbera's in single vases to be put on two of the fire places
They'll hang all my Chinese lanterns and use organza to hang them
They'll dress a display and present table with what I supply them
They'll sort the wedding favours I give them to dress the tables
Two uplighters in the marquee with gold and claret gel to add colour to the marquee ceiling
Pair of wind cases with church candles for the present display table
4 lanterns with church candles to light the stairs from the manor house where the evening buffet is to the marquee
Bridal bouquet - grand prix roses with diamantes in each flower with satin sleeve to completely cover stems with pearl pins
2 BM's bouquets - cream carnations, satin sleeve over stems and pearl pins
Presentation bouquet for my mum (grand prix roses, carnations and gerberas)
    1 FG wand - 3 gerbera's with a little sparkly butterfly
6 button holes - 1 grand prix rose and 5 carnations all with leaf and pearl pins

They will do set up, venue dressing, delivery and clear up after and include hire charges.

All for a grand total of £1046.65 incl of VAT.

We're getting 2 pedestals and 4 vases of flowers for the Church for £100 too from the lady who does the church flowers.

UPDATE: well we have a quote back for about £700! Mine alone is £169!!! But we are going to try and negotiate a price down a bit, as had gone to a few florists yesterday and averaged out their prices with what some of you have put on here and thought we would be looking at £5-600 max!! so yeh will see what we can do but won't message them until Monday as don't want to look too keen!!!

Yeh that's the problem, she is the only one who has been really interested and full of ideas and it felt 'right' as soon as we walked into the florist! I know that sounds silly but then after seeing a good 5 others we were hoping for good news from her! and only Friday did I say to my mom that just our luck she'll give some really expensive quote and throw a major spanner in the works!!

As Dad said sometime's if you prefer one thing to another you have to bite the bullet and pay for it but there is no harm in trying to sort out a lower price! I will probably reply thanking them for the quote and further to our meeting which we appreicated the time they spent with us (good 1.5hrs at least) and after researching we would like to see some samples/photographs...bla bla plus something about after considering their quote, assuming VAT included, we wonder whether there might be some room for manoevere etc.. and see where that takes us!

As much as I love their ideas and their 'aura' as such, I won't just say Yes for the sake of it!!!

That's very true that's how we have approach to certain things with the wedding. Sometimes you do have to pay a bit more if you feel like that.

Also can you afford it? Also ask if you pay by cash if they would be able to lower it. We did that with our cars and we got over £300 quid knocked off our total

Well have just sent the email! Have basically asked if can see some photographs and maybe some samples of their work & that as much as we loved their ideas, after looking over the quote, assuming VAT has been included is there any possibility or room for manoevre and if so then they're preferred method of payment - got Dad to help me word it, so assuming the mention of payment method was to see about any price alterations as MrsK2B you have suggested.
So will see what tomorrow brings.

She sent me two emails on sat, one from the email she has contacted me on before, then the quote was from a different account so have replied to the one I have had contact with so I know she will receive it!

    Fingers crossed! thanks ladies xx

Well had an email back nice and early this morning, saying she'll send some pictures over later but due to the fact they are artificial they can be made in advance & can be altered to suit but they are 'so confident' that I will love their work and that they would offer a full refund if I wasn't entirely happy with my bouquet.
As they only use the best quality flower stems there isnt much they can do in lowering the quote, apparantly they have already given it at a discounted rate... other than compromising with the quality of flowers in order to lower the quote and that is something they do not recommend. My only alternative is to lower the number of calla's in each piece and reolace with a different and lower priced stem!
Arghhhhhh no idea what to do!!!!!!!

I would wait until they send you the pictures and ask them what type of stem they use. Could you look on the internet to see if there are any on there that would be able to give you a quote using the same material as that florist uses and go from there?

Or if you really like her tell her your budget and see what they could do for you?

I could do I guess. I have asked around with other florists that do artificial & tried working out prices and quality against each other. But will have to wait to see what they have to send me and take it from there!

that was my problem, we couldn't work on a budget as didn't know what sort of prices we were looking at, hence the post in the first place! but after reading some of the other girls replies and working out averages from other florists we went to we thought we had some sort of quote set and turns out we were a wayyyyy off!!
