Anyone know the best time of year to buy airline tickets? Our flying dates have only just been released but forgive the pun ...the prices are sky high. Do summer flight prices go down in winter? In the past we have only ever bought last minute bargain tickets but with a wedding depending on us flying there, I really don't want to risk it. xxx

We booked as soon as the flights became available - literally on the day!!! There's a gap that they continue to increase in, but then they dip when sales happen. We decided that with our wedding depending on us being there, we weren't willing to take the risk of not being able to get the tickets or them not going on sale and being left with the higher prices, so we booked early for peace of mind. As it happens, with 16 weeks to go, prices are still higher than when we booked and I'd be worrying my backside off by now if we hadn't booked when we did. Hx

My uncle is a regular air traveller and has advised us to book through Thomson to Cyprus and to avoid easyjet but he only ever gets last min flights too. We are fairly flexible on choice of airport as we can go from exeter, bristol, all london airports, birmingham, east midlands or manchester. xx

if you are looking at flight only then the best time to book is NOW this is because business travellers normally have to book alst minute and will pay any price ..... so prices go up the nearere to the flight date

~i would say book as SOON AS POSSIBLE! we booked our November honeymoon as soon as the flights were out at the beginning of February. And since then the price has increased by over £700 for the whole holiday.

Our flights at the moment are nearly £300 each but we have 7 people we need to pay for. All the guests are paying their own. Its like £2100 for the 7. Tickets for next week for same airline/destination etc are £86 each that would be a huge saving but just not sure I want to risk it getting them that close. Even if we got them £50 cheaper still a good saving on 7 tickets. Arrghhhh xxx

Prices are generally lower when you book early. There are often sales though so it can be hit and miss. With it being for your wedding though, I would say book as soon as you can for peace of mind. We went to Cyprus in February and paid about the same for flights as we did last June. We flew Easyjet both times and had no problems - they are one of the limited options for daily flights to Cyprus during the winter season. We booked our honeymoon flights for August in early March through Thomson - we managed to get these on sale because of the eagle eyed in-laws (who live there)! We haven't used them but there's another budget airline that fil swears by - think they're jet2 or something like that. It depends on your days really as some only fly on certain days from certain airports, so I'd do your research, find the cheapest now and just get it booked! Where are you getting married out of interest? Cyprus (I'm assuming because you mentioned it earlier) is fab! Will be nice and warm but not too too hot in April.

Getting married in Paphos in Cyprus. We are only flexible by about a week on dates as we have to be there at least 3 days before getting married for the legal requirements.
I keep scanning flightline for deals with all operators but just doesnt seem to be any. )-; xx

Book as early as possible and (here's the key bit) book your return flight separately. Booking one-way each way is much cheaper - if only because it often means you use different airlines.

if you use skyscanner there is an option where you pick and choose the outbound and inbound seperatly but pay together so it can work out cheaper but if you book by credit card the charges are cheaper on travel republic. xx

Just to give you a clue on prices, we paid about £350 in total for return flights to Paphos for the two of us last June. So I would have thought there's a deal to be had. I would check with Easyjet when the April flights will be released as they don't seem to be on sale yet I don't think. Also to give you an idea, when we looked at flights in about October for February, they were about £200 but because we didn't book until the beginning of January, we ended up paying about the same as when we went last June. xx

Any reason he suggested Thomson over Easyjet? I've flown with both several times and rate Easyjet above Thomson, I cannot stand Thomson, and they're usually more expensive.

if you go with easyjet it's definitely cheaper to book sooner rather than later; if with Thomson prices can fluctuate, but I usually find prices are cheaper the earlier you book; we always book as soon as dates are released if possible and I've yet to regret that decision
