Well feel as if I can properly introduce myself - officially now.

We became engaged on 4th September at Circular Quays, Sydney - with Opera House on one side and the Harbour Bridge on the other! Not as romantic or grand as my other half had hoped but with our 3 kids in tow (2 of them being stroppy teen girls) . It was an hour before me and the kids had to return to airport for our flight back to UK and leaving him behind again as he has been there working since March. He says he was so nervous he had bottled out about 10 times over the 3 weeks we were there but luckily he got there in the end lol.

Been a tough few weeks since we got back and readjusting to the separation again and I havent really felt engaged or all the excitement of it.

We have spent today, via skype/email/Whatsapp, making our first decisions regarding the big day!

We have agreed our theme and colour scheme

We have also decided on rough dates too and where we are likely to look for venues.

Im now officially and extremely excitabubble Bride2be - I apologise now to everyone

Congratulations! I know how hard it is to live in a different country from H2B and to try and make wedding plans without actually being together. Luckily we're finding it so much easier and more fun now we're in the same country again. Just get loads of ideas together so that you can impress him with everything you've done when he comes back. Congratuations again, enjoy your planning!!

awww congrats, and i know how you feel, my partner left for libya in march, as his in the royal navy, and working as part of NATO i went out in june to see him in malta, and thats where he popped the question two days before i had to leave him with no return date in sight, and i didnt really feel engaged till i got to planning it.

i also have had to make most of the decisions and have had to do all the work myself as his still in Libya and wont be back till November :( and middle of novemeber at that.

some days i dont even get a call, because their comms are always down :(

but as my hubby to be says at least he knows i will have it manly sorted before he gets back! haha! i have to now the dates like 10 months away haha!

we are all a friendly bunch and here to help :) i know everyone has helped me with ideas and Bargains!!! :) x x

    happy planning x xx

I know how you feel too, my h2b is forces and is away from now until December 2012. For the first 6 months he will be able to come home once a month but then it's a long separation. He proposed just before he left so that I can dedicate my time to planning our wedding and take my mind off missing him. I would hate to tell him that planning our wedding without him makes me miss him more. I want to make decisions with him so that it's his day too, mind you he does have some stupid ideas. I could forgive the bucking bronco idea but he got a telling off for suggesting "Highway to Hell" as our walk out music.

Hang on in there hun, October will be great. Make the most of the just engaged buzz, I've been engaged now for just under a month and the buzz still hasn't worn off. All I talk about is wedding stuff! he he!

    I can't wait until 29/06/2013
The day I marry the man of my dreams!

I shouldnt complain considering what all you Forces Wifes and Brides to be have to put up with. You are the stars of this country.

My family are primarily forces but my mum and dad werent so kind of directly avoided it but still seen the hardship it caused on families.

Lala - past 2 years we have dedicated to finding a way to permanently emigrate. He was offered the contract in Feb and left in March but because we have 2 older children (nearly 14 and 11 as well as a 3 year old) we felt that it really really had to be the right decision so he went on his own to do a proper reccie as no matter how much research you do its not actually living the life. Big problem we have is 1) Oz is really really expensive at the minute and their economy is soaring and 2) because of his work we are limited to Sydney area and his work would be on a specific type of Temporary Resident Visa and the biggest drawback of that is we would need to pay for education for all 3. Plus our oldest daughter will be starting her GCSE's next year so we need to weigh up balance of messing up her education if contract is only guaranteed for 2 years.

Ultimately the way things are going I think the standard of living out there is far superior to what we can offer here and deep down we have made our minds up that as soon as we can we are off. When we are in UK he has to work in London and we all hate it (even though we live in Essex and he commutes) - lol we do have back up plans of Vancouver or Los Angeles
