Wedding Forum - Finally Mrs Lindsay 15.8.15. What a weekend...

Our wedding day is a day we will treasure forever - the 2nd best day of my life (Best day was the day our son was born)

Friday afternoon we travelled to the hotel most of us arrived by 4pm. I was so excited checked in had a drink then I had some things to sort out and have a shower. I had to iron mine, my mums and sisters dressing gowns which they got on the morning of the wedding, and do a few other bits after my shower I joined the rest of the gang in the bar and then we went for dinner at 7.30pm was a set menu and it was just divine there were 22 of us for dinner, after dinner some people retreated to bed while other went to the bar for some more drinks, My H2b and ds went off to bed about 10.30pm ds settled fairly quickly allowing OH to finish off his speech, Once I had sorted them two out I went back to the bar not drinking much I was high on the atmosphere. I went off to bed and finally fell asleep around 12.30 as it took me ages to drop off, I never got much sleep as my parent came into the room approx 2am waking me up then a friend txt at 3.30am saying she wouldn't make the wedding then I was bright eyed and bushy tailed at 5.30am.

The Big day.
I lay in bed until 6.30am ish so not to disturb my parents we went down for breakfast at 7am so we could avoid Oh and ds. I surprised myself with how chilled out I was, I gave my mum and sister their gowns and their other gifts when we got back to the room and they loved them. my hair and makeup lady started at 10.30am my mum and sister got their makeup done first then me, onto the hair and my sister got her hair done then me and my mum. during the time I was getting my hair done the piper had arrived and started playing which was a sign my coach had arrived and my guests were arriving I got a bit emotional at this point thankfully my makeup didn't budge with the tears.

My best friend and sister helped me into my dress which was a right laugh as my friend bent over to help me her dress zip burst (I shouldnt laugh but it was funny) and way i was on track to be early at this point but I ended up being bang on time.
UNTIL i was walking down the stairs and getting some photos taking in the foyer with my dad sister and DS all ready to walk through It started to hit me that I was getting married and I had to do some breathing exercises to get me through thats when the WP said to me 'slight problem two of your guests are late' one had just walked through (I had seen her and though she was just at the toilet) and her mum was just parking the car. did I want to wait well I thought I was going to lose the plot (this friend has feelings for me husband that she really should so it was no surprise that she was late). thankfully the piper got me in check by telling me to keep the heid and I wasn't waiting for anyone so through we went ready to walk down the aisle.

I had said to the WP that i was fine but id well up as soon as the piper played so she gave me a tissue getting down the aisle was quite difficult as it was quite small for me and my dad and he was holding my dress in a really weird way but I didnt want to tell him to let it go he was just worried hed stand on it.

Gets to the end of the aisle and I haven't really looked at Alan until he said to me as I was dabbing my eyes dry with the tissue WP gave me and he said to me I think I need that more than you I looked at him and he was crying proper tears (Ive only ever seen him cry twice before when his dad passed away and at his funeral) so what did I do I laughed hysterically at him for what felt like 5 minutes I couldn't stop.

my uncle read a reading then we exchanged our vows then his uncle read a poem followed by us exchanging the rings the ceremony was short and very lovely I laughed when I had to say my full name as not many people know my middle name which resulted in some laughter from the guests. It was raining while we got married after being lovely all day it was my dream to get married outside but the conservatory was just lovely and more intimate. AFterwards it was straight onto photos now the rain was off did I want to go out into the wet lawn to have them taken or stay in the conservatory OUTSIDE it was this has resulted in my dress being full of grass stains but hey you only get married once (Well I hope so anyway). The photographer loved that I didn't care my dress was getting wet/ruined as it meant we had better photos than being inside although we did get some inside as it rained for 5 mins in between photos. while we were getting photos taking arrival drinks were served (Canapes should have been served also however they weren't I have contacted the venue about it and they are refunding us and a massive apology from them as the business sheets weren't passed to the chef), It may have been a big deal but we decided to not let it be as really it didn't matter we were married and no one missed them really.

While everyone was giving their order for food the speeches were done, My dads speech was great should be as I wrote most of it lol. Alans speech was excellent and the biggest surprise of all as a gift to me he booked our honeymoon 10 night si st Lucia in November (After hurricane season and me move into our new house) I was gobsmacked as I had a thought he may have done it but just said to myself no way as we were booking it the monday after the wedding, I am so happy with it as I wouldn't have went for the hotel he did as it was so much more expensive but hey its our honeymoon, Bestmans speech was great too no surprises for me here though as I know everything there is to know about hubby ( I was presented with snow whites red garter he was dressed as SW during his stag weekend in Amsterdam)

The meal was AMAZING I had mini beef olives with mash potato and onion gravy, roasted red pepper soup, Prime fillet of Scottish beef with port wine sauce and creamed cabbage with bacon and then sticky toffee pudding with Ice cream. ds was supposed to have pizza for his main but because of new business sheets not being passed he ended up having homemade chicken nuggets again the hotel has taken full responsibility and have apologised and given us a refund.

We greeted our evening guests and was time to get the party started we cut our amazing wedding cake and then it was the first dance Caledonia followed by Jason Mraz I won't give up, the band were fantastic and I never left the dance floor all night we also had a dj and it flowed so well the dance floor was busy all night. Evening buffet went down a treat it was served at the tables rather than people queuing to help themselves something else our venue does differently to most places.

The day over ran but who cares we were having an amazing day. The evening came to a close well after 1am was supposed to be 12.45am everyone was in good spirits the last dance was runrig loch lomond ( Our song as when Oh stayed with his mum you could see loch lomond from his bedroom window).

Once out the function suite most people went to bed but we stayed up in the bar chatting I changed into my jeans an top as my dress was killing my ribs with all the dancing I had done. I finally got to bed at 5.30am had some fun with my new hubby and who knows what time i got to sleep.

The wedding planner was fantastic popping in and out keeping my up to date with what was happening and we had prosecco and sandwiches brought up which they didn't charge for :
Problem no1 someone showed up that had declined the invite the WP sorted out a place for her at the table etc only for her to say she was leaving after the ceremony lol
Problem no2 - My friends dress zip burst thankfully the WP had a needle and thread sewing her up as she was lacing up my dress

Sunday I was awake at 8.20am so lucky if i had 2 hours sleep we went for breakfast with most of our guests who had stayed over I think i was still drunk lol we hung about the hotel and had lunch there just us, my parents, sister & BIL, Photographer who is bils dad.

My wedding day was everything I could have wished for and more even with the few hickups but the whole weekend was fantastic and we are very blessed with some amazing friends and family. I am sure I have missed bits out but basically that is our wedding day.

That all sounds amazing, despite the small issues. Well done to your wedding planner sorting out the dress, that's above and beyond.
