sorry this is bit long just needs to get it off my chest
im feeling really low at the moment. h2b recently quit his job to start one he thought would be better paid and better for him only to find out it was door to door canvassing trying to get people to sign up to donating money to red cross, it was self employed and worked out about £18 to every person that signed up. this was no good for us he worked there 3 days and didnt earn a penny! infact it cost him £28 in parking so were out of pocket. he hasnt found another job yet and its only been 3 weeks since he left his job, hes signed on to get jsa but we havent had a payment were living on £100 child tax credits a week at the moment and we have bills to pay for our flat, i have to pay £900 for my dress by october 31st. about £600 for our rings.i need to pay £150 deposit to secure our photographer. and we have to be able to pay everything else like shopping etc.
the wedding were having isnt exactly the wedding of my dreams anyway as we were on a low budget anyway but now im dreading the whole thing. my parents were meant to be paying for my dress but they can help us out now as my dad got made redundant and there living on just my mums wage. in some ways i just feel like putting the wedding back a bit just so we can pay everything off otherwise were going to lose money because were not going to be able to pay the people we book.h2b wont put the date back he just says we'll manage and goes on about my mum saying they were going to buy my dress. he hasnt paid any money towards the wedding yet even when he was working. im just fed up with it all now. i dont know what to do :(

I think maybe the 1st thing you need to do is write a list of all you have to pay and then see if you can cut costs. I had to do this as we havent had much money. I bought my dress from Ann for £150 and instead of buying the rings I really wanted at £800 we just got cheap ones. We have halved our guest list and only invited close friends and family to the day time and everyone else to the evening.

Dont loose hope you can do it but it may have to be lower budget than originally thought. The most important thing is thatyou are getting married xxx

Oh hun, sounds like you having a rubbish time of it at the moment. I really, really hope your luck changes soon. I dont know what i'd do in your position either. Have you put any deposits down on anything yet? If not i guess you could maybe suggest to h2b, that you put wedding back by 6mths or so. Just to give you some extra time to pay it off. x

thats what i keep telling myself. the rings and dress have been part paid. dress was £1500 and rings were £1091
h2b doesnt help and neither does my parents they all just keep saying dont worry things will work out in the end, and i know the only way things will work out is if h2b gets a job in the next month or i cud back on things in the wedding

I'm the one in our house that looks at the wedding and gets worried over what we can afford etc. My h2b is always saying dont worry it will be fine. Sometimes i think he forgets we need to live off of the money we have coming in too. He's chosen all the expensive packages. It does not help that there is not really many decent jobs, out there at the moment. I hope he finds something soon. Do you think you will be able to cut back in any areas? x

Would you rather put the date back a year and have the wedding of your dreams or keep your date and trim it liberally?

sounds like your in abit of a pickle!!!its hard when money just isnt coming in and parents cant help. it sounds like you are trying to cut down where you can but I think you need to make a list of the things that are the most important to you and go fom there. For example is it about geting married or having the dream wedding. If its just getting married then strip things back and then maybe ina years time when things are in a better way renue your wedding vows and have you dream day then. If its the whole package then I think the best thing to do is to put the wedding back. Do you have wedding insurence that will cover anything you cancel etc? Hope that helps abit.xx

thanks gem. i dont have wedding insurance as we werent planning on having a big do anyway. the most important thing is about us getting married. id rather have it on the date weve already picked as its around the time we met and it was the first date that popped into my head b4 we set the date. if that makes sense.

Good luck Kimi, i really hope things work out. Have you done the list that the other girls are suggesting? Also getting family and friends to chip in where possible is great for your finances. We're doing our whole day on £2k. I've borrowed my dress (fits like it was made for me and is gorgeous!) got my shoes from ebay, church is £300, we're not having flowers either as is just past Easter so flowers will still be up, bridesmaids and best man paying for their own dresses/suit, mum paying for car, nan has paid for reception (local working mens club-very nice on the inside as just had a big refurb), uncle is making the cake, sisters husband is our DJ..

Has he signed up for any temping agencies? They can be quite good. I also have the same problem with h2b and the putting money towards it. Do they think these days pay for themselves?! Lol.xx

    Can't wait to be married!

Kimi if getting married is the most important thing and the date is right then write a list of all he thngs that again are most important down to least and see where you can save money. getting family and friends to help is a great way to save money other than that just cut down where you can and like I said before maybe scale it right down and then renuew your vows when you have more money in the bank. you can make your renue like a white wedding and have the day of your dreams. I think your doing the right thing by not going crazy as the last thing you want to do is start married life in massive amounts of debts! Hope that helps, just remember keep your chin up stay positive and you will get there.xxx

yeh but the last job he had we both hated. he was building cow sheds/barns on farms and they werent using any safety ropes or harnesses or anything. he cut his leg open with a chainsaw aswell. i dont really want him doing another job like that again or a job where he is likely to get injured.
we have thought about things. instead of gettin a chaufer driven car were going to hire a car and get my dad to drive me to the church in it then my h2b to drive it back. were going to do own buffet as this will save us about £300. and just get as much stuff as i can from ebay. as long as i have my dress h2b has his suit and we have the church and reception venue paid for then sod everything else lol

you need to be realistic and postpone your wedding now before you lose more deposits, this may sound harsh but i had to do it when my h2b had an accident at work and didnt work for two years. We were supposed to be getting married this august but there is no way we would ahve had the money, me and h2b at the time thought we would be able to manage somehow.

We lost £300 in deposits and breathed a sigh of relief that our venue lost our cheque so never cashed it. Other wise we would have lost another £500. We have now set another date for 2013, which we will be able to save for. This has meant watiing another two years but the time is going fast and i am enjoying planning, and finding better bargains, already saved £3000 as going with hotel now instead of orig venue :) so there is good things to postponing.

postponing would be good if we were having a big flash wedding in first place but were not. its only family and very close friends that are coming, even though the number is about 100 guests. were having the cermony in a church which is costing £500, the reception is at a social club about 5 mins away from where we live. thats costing £250. were doing our own buffet so thats saving us money. the dearest things are the rings and my dress. got £900 on my dress to pay in 3/4 months and the rings are about £600 left to pay by april next year. i think as long as we budget ourselves and h2b continues to look for a job then we should be fine

Why is postponing not an option you are having a big wedding, you have 100 guests!!!!! I am not being funny or nasty i just dont want you to get to the stage where you are not able to pay and will loose your deposits. You deserve a nice wedding and a wedding that wil take place when you are happily planning it. We are not having a lavish wedding we are having church then onto a hotel. We also have 100 guests but it is nice to plan it for two years later then original date as i am enjoying my planning and not worrying where the money is going to be coming from.

If you really dont want to postpone how about looking to see if you can have shave some money of the things you are already getting, for example not get your h2b a ring and buy him one on your first anniversary. Set up your wedding gift list so people can pay for parts of your wedding, not sure how to do this but sure someone on here does.

weve already paid for half the rings so thats not really an option. the fact were having 100 guests isnt an issue with us when it comes to money as were not having a sit down meal so the buffet is gonig to cost us about £200 instead of about £1000 as were doing it ourselves.whereas if we would have had a sit down meal it would have cost about £5000+. our original budget would have been over £12,000 if wed had our reception in the hotel we originally wanted but we decided why spend thousands of pounds on one day when we could do so much more with the money. after discussing it with my h2b i am happy having a budget wedding as us getting married is more important than the day itself. as long as we have our family and friends celebrating the day with us then we are happy
