After going to see my friend today and knowing how much she'd love to come but may not to afford to.

Its now got me thinking how selfish I must seem arranging our wedding abroad knowing that people who would love to come but really cant afford it and wont be able to come with us.... and I feel really guilty

We would really love to have it in cyprus, its a holiday/wedding and honeymoon all at once for us which saves alot of money!

But I feel really bad now :-(

I know how you feel... at the moment i'm completely torn between having my wedding abroad or at home for the same reasons.
All i can say is try not to feel guilty after all it is your day and all that matters is that its what you and your partner want and you don't want to be in a situation where you regret doing something because of other people. x

Gaby is right honey.. the most important people is you & your H2B on your special day..
You can always have a blessing/renewal of vows back at hom, thats what im doing..

Two weddings then and best of both worlds

We decided that we would go abroad because we just wanted it to be us & we are not telling anyone so nobody gets upset or anyone get upset because some could come but others couldn't who are immediate family!

So the plan is to go get married abroad just the two of us (how we want it) then come back & have a blessing with an evening reception/party so we have the best of both worlds & everybody will be happy! x

i am looking into having a blessing at our party back home. a very informal one, but only if it's very cheap or can pick someone to do it!!

you can get a priest/minister to do it or a humanist celebrant. in fact, ANYONE can do the blessing for you!!

if you google wedding blessing template, you'll find some saomples of what can be said :)

i know a lot of people can't afford to come, but we had originally planned to do it alone. only after we'd decided, people said they wanted to come :)

A blessing may be a good option, if It can be made similar to a wedding, gives me an ideal excuse to be wearing my wedding dress

We will be having a blessing with our Priest but like kisywisy says anybody can do a blessing - it doesn't have to be religious!

We don't want anyone to know, although this makes me sad in some ways it's to save peoples feelings because I know a few that will not be able to come who I want there the most so I had to be ruthless and decide nobody!

I was thinking of just having the church hall for the party after but it does not have a bar so it will cost us a fortune in supplying alcohol.

I know a few brides on here that are having a blessing & doing it like a wedding in their dress with bridesmaids etc :-)

Sarah if you go onto the Church of England website, in the real stories bit theres a lovely story about a couple who loved a church but couldn't get married there - so they had a registry office wedding and then the vicar of the church they loved performed an "all out" wedding blessing for them :) Wedding dress, bridesmaids, entrance music and all - I think you just have to ask your local vicar nicely and explain to them what you want :) Xx

That sounds great, we dont need a vicar to perform the blessing. we hadnt planned on marrying in a church just having a civil ceremony at a chosen venue-we arent religious so it wouldnt of been as meaningful to us as opposed to someone who was.

I want to possibley arrange a blessing to be done at the venue where we have our reception before our meal etc so it feels 'weddingy'
