I thought having just over 2 weeks to go i'd be happy and on top of the world, instead i've had a cold that i can't shift for over 2 weeks, i'm tetchy and could quite happily sit in a corner and cry.

This cold is really not helping me as its stopping me sleeping, which i'm finding hard enough to do at the moment as i can't get my brain to switch off, and the past two nights i've sweated that much poor mark who's on night shift this week hasn't been able to go to bed because its having to be aired.

I have my second hen this saturday too and i really hoped i would be fine for it, but clearly not.

What can i do to a) make me feel better, and b) to cheer myself up as at this rate i'm going to be a snotty tear stained bride on my big day!!!! xx

You've got 2 weeks to go, which should be plenty of time to shift this cold. It's probably not helping worrying about it too much. Keep dosed up with fluids and Vitamin C. Have you thought about trying something like Kalms or Valerian tea to try and help you sleep? do you read? I find when I'm tensed up before sleep, I read a book in bed which stops me thinking about whatever is going around in my head, and I read until I'm almost falling asleep, so all I have to do is put the book down, turn out the light and go to sleep. I don't allow myself enough time to start lying there and going over things in my head again.

Only advice i can give is the same as Faeth has!

vitamin C and some reading before bed.

unless its a really gripping book and you may not want to put it down lol!

Once the cold has gone you will feel loads better. Sounds like you are just generally run down. You need to take the time to rest, I would also recommend Kalms just to give you a little help. xxxx

I do read, have 2 books on the go at the moment, but when i'm tired i can't concentrate on reading and my mind still drifts, i tend to stick the tv on (i know i shouldn't) and half watch that until i'm drifting off, turn the tv off then i'm wide awake thinking thinking thinking.

I just wish this cold would go, i always seem to get ill when i have something to look forward to and this is one time that i do not want to be ill or rundown, i just don't have the time for it :o( Sorry i sound like a wingebag and today i actually feel really down x

I was supposed to have a relaxing weekend last weekend, even said i wasn't going to get dressed the whole two days, but in the end as it was h2b's birthday we had friends round for a meal (and rude me fell asleep whilst they were there) this weekend its second hen with friends who couldn't come to Manchester with me and then next weekend i will be running around making sure everything is ready as we go the following friday :o( I just need some time to myself, but i can't get any as everyone wants to spend time with me x

Multi-vitamins, lemsip and maybe some echinacea!
Sounds like you've been too busy and stressing is not going to help, try nice bubble bath with candles to relax, will also make you feel tons better!
Hope you feel better soon! xx

It's a herbal remedy, that's good for keeping away colds but lots of people say it works to shorten a cold as well, Boots or a health food shop should stock it!
I don't take much except multi-vitamins and echinacea, rarely have a cold!

Stop the world. Cancel something. Make that time that you need. You're ill and that is a perfectly valid reason for pulling out of something. I agree that you need fluids, vitamin C in maximum dose (and ask a specialist as it's more than on the bottle when you're ill!). Most of all you need to de-stress.
    Make that time for you.
Write lists of what has to be done, from putting the washing in to checking your make-up and hair booking. As you do it, cross it off and forget about it.
    You'll get there love xx

I can't do anything with regards to the wedding now until we are in Vegas, i am going to start putting clothes out that need packing this weekend, have a hair appointment next saturday for trim and colour, the following thursday dog goes into kennels, then the friday its nails, brows and pedicure before driving down to london (h2b doesn't drive so thats all me) to catch fight on the saturday.

Think i'm very concious that with working full time monday - friday i haven't got much time to sort out everything now and time is just going too fast. I need some "me time" but don't have the time to fit it all in.....xx

echinacea is fantastic i work at a well known health shop and i take it personnaly i think its better than vit c but everyone is different. it shortens the time u have a cold and also helps to stop u getting a bad one, also try some lavender and a hot bath before bed that may help and try and get ur h2b to help do daily stuff round the house to lighten ur load
anything is worth a go when ur feeling run down
i hope u feel better soon

you need to try and not stress about the cold as it will only make it worse. I have been ill at the start of this week and it was panic stations but I simple told myself that no matter what I was no going to be ill on our day so I have gone to bed as and when I have needed to and if things dont get done well then tough me being well is far more important. If possible(know its hard, I hate it) but give jobs out to other people so that you can get some rest! if the cold doesnt shift by next week go and see your doc and explain that you are getting married, cant sleep or get rid of your cold, they may be able to help!! Its hard when you feel low but you just have to tell yourself that this is no longer an option, have a good cry and then try and move on. Hope you feel better soon and stay positive!!xxx

I agree, sounds like you need to just destress a little and get some vitamins. I bet a night out with your girls will sort you out. Writing everything down helps to stops things whizzing around in my head before bed. Lavendar is a good cure for insomnia too as purpleme said xx

Get well soon hun. Maybe the sunshine in Vegas will help too

I swear by home made honey and lemon. I use a full lemon and just a teaspoon of honey but some can't stomach how sour it is. My mum always made it with half a lemon and a tablespoon of honey and some nearly boiled water. I love it and as soon as the first rumblings of a cold start I'm having that 3 times a day and it tends not to appear and if I've already got a full blown cold it gets rid of it really fast, like a vitc injection really.

I pick up bugs/coughs etc really easily and this is always my saviour. xx

For the cold, drink lots of clear fluids, avoid milk based products and orange juice because they increase phlegm production and make you feel lousy

For the not sleeping thing.... I have trouble with this myself and have just come across a combination which works for me. I can't read before bed because I get too into the book and can't stop until I've finished it, so instead I do puzzles like sudoku or hanjie, they help me to focus my mind on something else and the repetitive nature of them helps me to get to sleep. I also have a sleep pillow, a little bag filled with a mix of lavender and hops which makes you really sleepy, mine only cost about £2 from the bay.

I hope this helps a bit... get well soon

Actually had a reasonable nights sleep last night, think having a moan on here possibly helped me, or the take away and nice hot bath and hug from Mark when i got in. Still bunged up and full of the cold, but been able to have 6 hours unbroken sleep has helped so much. Will be repeating what i did last night tonight in the hope that a few more early and relaxing nights should help.

Have only taken paracetamol as not really into taking medication especially for a cold, but my mother told me lasts night if i am still poorly after the weekend that she will force me to the doctors as i'm not really one for being ill and a cold that lasts 3 weeks (which it will be by then) is not right.

Need to stop stressing as its all mind over matter "i will be fine! I will be fine! I will be fine!!!" xxx
