    Hi all,

Just a quick question (might also be a stupid one) but when you hire your photographers, if they are going to be there all day up until the first dance, do you count them in your wedding breakfast? As I assume they would also like food lol. We're having two photographers so it's two extra people to factor in, but they guys need to eat!

Ours sheepishly mentioned it in our meeting as part of his contract requirements.

Fortunately we've got a cheap deal, but I don't envy those ppl paying £50pp! It's quite common place. Check with the venue if they can offer an alternative 1 course meal - but check that your photographer is ok for that. remember seeing a quote from a quartet before saying their meal has to be of the standard of the wedding banquet and not a substandard meal!

I havent even thought of this lol but SOME photographers will want feeding BUT dont worry it wont be the whole 3 course meal everyone else is having. Most would perfer something small like a quick snack or a sandwich and they would proberly eat in the bar away from your guests.
Ours is bringing his own sandwishs i think or so h2b says hehehe

When I was looking at 1 agencies site for bands there was a part about feeding them an adequate meal. They didn't have to be part of the guests and on the table plan or anything, just provide them with a adequate meal. I personally feel its cheeky of them to expect the wedding banquet meal

Well ours wasn't in the contract but was asked on the booking form. But as we are havibg our reception in a hotel we have said to them both and our videographer to order from the bar and we will pick the bill up the next day. Talk to your venue they will of prob had this before . I don't want to include them in our numbers at £65 pp!! Lol

I will look into mine but I know my videographer is feeding himself from the restaurant out of the way of the guests sitting in the terrace room where we will be and just coming in when we cut the cake and do the speeches. Got my meeting with the photographer on 31st Jan so can check to see what he says in his contract then. Definitely didn't budget for two extra heads at £61.95!!!!

Ours also has it in the contract that we feed them but it doesn't have to be the wedding breakfast meal. It can be a buffet or bar meal so don't think you have to pay loads out for that.

Thanks everyone, I'll speak to the venue and see what they can do about a bar meal for the photographers then. Was a tad worried that I was gonna have to shell out another £60 each for them, which would make them rather pricey to hire lol!

At our venue they offered cheaper options for "suppliers". Either sandwiches or a cheaper hot meal but because my photographer was my cousin it wasn't an issue. But I guess the same is if you hire a toastmaster or anyone that is going to be with you for the entire day... I'm sure your venue is used to it so hopefully they will have an alternative solution. Good luck xx

Well after speaking to our photographers they've said they will require feeding on the day but didn't specify what exactly their requirements were, so I think I'll arrange with my venue a nice bar meal (but not a £60 a head meal!) for the two of them, hopefully the venue will be ok about accomodating this. To be honest before all this I would've thought that they'd provide their own lunch, good job I checked!

what the guests are having for them as you are paying them to do a job... like a bar meal or something should do... quite a few I met with did say that their price for their photography packages included food as they would be around all day. Xx

We are giving ours a hot meal (will be the same main and dessert as our guests) but the venue charges us a reduced price for it and he'll eat in the bar away from the guests - he'll want a break too and I don't want any pics of me stuffing my face!

I think it they are there more than 6 hours, it's only fair.

'ca'ca'ca - you don't pay whatever the price per head is for them, your venue will either offer bar food (as the others have said) or a reduced cost for the same meal. But to be honest I love my photographer so much I'd pay the full price for his meal! Keep 'em sweet and all that; a hungry photographer could make for some poor photos... :o)

Speaking as a photographer I would say it is always nice when offered a place, but its never expected.
Often there are spare places where someone didn't turn up so the photographer gets offered a seat instead.
Mostly though, we tend to grab a sandwich at the bar while the wedding guests are eating. Often, with a sly smile and the odd wink, we can get the catering staff to knock us up a plate of chips or something!!
I wouldn't worry too much about feeding the tradesmen!

We also have two photographers and they have asked to be fed, but they have reassured us they don't want to be part of the party and only want a small meal to keep them going which is fair enough since they will be with us for about 8/9 hours. I know a lady that had to put her photographer in the seating plan and feed him the full wedding breakfast which is just slightly taking the p.

Going to check with my venue, to be honest I dont want our 2 photographers sitting with us for a meal, we only have about 35 people for the wedding breakfast and it would feel odd! So hoping the venue will arrange a plate of sandwiches or let them have a little something from our buffet, not paying £40 for them to be included in the numbers!!!

We never expect anything, but appreciate the subject being covered in advance.

On the way to the wedding breakfast I grabbed something at the drive through...only to be given an unexpected hog roast on arrival.

I needed rolling out of my chair.

Depending on location some couples offer a bar meal away from the guests, I've also been sat with the guests close to the top table, camera in hand.
Sometimes the venue itself lays something on for those working that day. It's always a good question to ask your tog, they won't usually mention it although I have heard of some saying they expect to be fed which I think is cheeky.

QFT (if there was a quote button!)

I've had B&G's offer me food, but I prefer that down time when the guest eat. Gives me a chance to chill, and you can't chill at a table with guests who are in effect, an extension of your client.

Mostly I go and have a sandwich in the car, rest my poor feet for a bit and replace a few batteries.

I certainly don't expect to be fed and if I was offered something I'd politely decline, though I appreciate the gesture.
If a tog you're looking at insists on being fed outright, how inflexible is he going to be in other areas is what I'd think to myself.

The feeding of the photographer should be a subject for your meeting with them. My take is we are staff, are the catering staff sitting down as well?

As a wedding photographer I really don't expect to be fed, In fact whilst the wedding party eat I like to get away, loosen my tie, put my cameras and bag down, drink copious amounts of water and enjoy my bacon sandwich in the piece and quiet of the car park. Naturally I pop back every so often to catch a shot between courses.
