As h2b and me has put our wedding back a year cos of lack of pennies i got upset and stuff but well anyway he said at one point he wanted our favours to be a donation to alzheimers as his mum has it so i said yeah thats a good idea but i also wanted to give something to people along with it like some home made fudge or something that i can make which he was fine with then about a week later maybe even less than that he pipes up saying that as were saving money and trying to cut our budget down why do we need favours????????? At the time he said that i had forgotten that he wanted to make donations on behalf of our guests so couldnt put that back at him but he's wanting to cut out favours/donations to a charity but he doesnt want to cut down the number of guests we're having?????

My brother in law had the most over the top expensive wedding ever and he never had favours and I didn't even notice. They really aren't that important and I think people don't expect them anymore. If it means saving money then I think its a good idea not to have them, especially if you can't cut down on the guests. I'm sure you will come to some compromise though hun, don't get down about it xx

I dont mind not having them cos people would prob leave them anyway but its just at one moment he wanted them as donations to charity for his mum then he turns round and says he doesnt want favours at all and wants to save money

He sounds like me lol one minute Im having them next minute Im not but Im only like that as I cant decide what I want! Why don't you try and compromise, say cut down the guests list slightly and we can make a small donation to the charity OR don't have favours and don't cut down the guest list, so your still saving by not having favours but slip something in your invites suggesting your guests to make a donation to charity? So your saving money and h2b gets the donation done

I really like the idea of having favours and making something for them but i also want to save money so its hard to decide what to do. I know that people probably wouldnt mind if we didnt have favours and wouldnt say anything to me but i worry incase some people did moan about it lol

I was thinking of getting something for ppl to keep but with so many choices ive decided to go with cake pops instead and im providing them for evening gueuests as well instead of wedding cake as we are using that for dessert.
I have got little mirrors and hip flask keyrings that im going to use for the stag/hen bags instead

Making favours doesn't cost a lot at all if you make something like fudge or a cookie each in the shape of something that fits your theme or maybe a bride and groom? The ingredients cost pennies and you get something pretty but edible, yum! I am lucky in that my h2b has said I can have anything I want within our budget so I am buying my favours over the next few months, lovely vintage looking cards with quotations on the front from authors relating to tea, and inside they have a herbal tea bag. Unusual but I love them, I keep laying them all out on the table and then giving a little scream of delight, lol. Easily pleased me! But favours can be pricey so just make some pretty biscuits if you really want to have something. As for h2b, they generally are tight and want to cut corners but want the same amount of guests, I don't think they realise what goes into a wedding, or maybe they just don't care, lol. xx
Finally reunited with the love of my life
Never to part again
This Saturday I will finally be Mrs Codling!

My h2b is very understanding about the charity donation as favours, so he's very supportive of that one. I've also bought some spice jars from Ikea and will be spraying the lids gold, and ribboning with the same ribbon as napkins ect and putting a tag on them. The kids have the plastic toy shapes which were pretty inexpensive and I'll just fill them with almonds. I only have 35 day guests so it's not been that expensive.
For a cheap idea too, you could buy wrapped chocolate bars and use pearl paper to write a message, cut down and wrap. I do them all the time for the kids party bags, also make one up if any of mine go to a party to put on card as something a little special.
On the flip side if I had to trim the budget, the favours would go.

Men say stuff and then forget what they've said. My H2B REALLY didn't want cupcakes. Didn't like the idea. Wouldn't discuss it. Then a friends sisters have offered to do our cake (s). Cupcakes. He's all for it now. We weren't having favours but I found some nice hearts and kisses choc's and marshmallow hearts so I got those £32! But if our budget was stricter, they'd be one of the first things to cut.
Got married 11/11/11.

I dont think anyone would moan if you did not give them a favour and if they do they deserve a slap!!!! Weddings cost enough as it is and I have been to so many (I used to be a wedding planner) where people just leave them behind which used to drive me nuts! I think the donation to charity is lovely but it does not have to be much at all...it is the gesture / thought that counts! and you can tell your guests that you have done that by printing a message in your OS or menu or even putting a little card on your tables. He is just being a bloke and having a bit of a moan ha ha

if you want favours but h2b doesnt want to spend the money why not make some salt dough hearts/flowers or something and put yours and h2bs initials on with the wedding date. salt dough costs almost nothing to make, all you need then is some paint, varnish and ribbon. ribbon is cheap anyway, one small tin of varnish should be enough for all of them, and paint tester pots are free or pretty cheap to paint them. would work out at just pennies per favour!
CommentAuthorSian-Louise
My H2B does see the point in spending money on favours either, he thinks they are a waste of money. But I'm still going to make some to keep the cost down so he doesnt moan too much!! xx

IM gonna bring up the idea of having favours again and see what he says cos he's prob forgotten that he's said he doesnt want them lol
