    Hey ladies

I'm having a dilemma... I'm just about to send out my hen party and wedding invitations and having the usual 'where to draw the line' problem.

I have a couple of aunts and cousins who I see quite a bit of and who have been really good to me recently and over the years, so they are definitely invited. The trouble is, I have a pretty big family and there are others who I do see now and again but don't really want them at the hen party or the daytime wedding. Three of the said cousins have 12 children between them (yes really!) but we are thinking of applying a 'no children' rule anyway. How do I get round the 'if you invite that person, you have to invite them' thing, especially with my mum! Should I just be brutal and risk offending people?
We don't have a huge budget and only wanted 50-60 people to the day... the rest can come to the evening but to be honest, there are some family members who I don't want there at all!

The numbers card is always a good one. 'the venue is restricting the numbers of people we can have, so whilst you are welcome to come to the evening reception, I'm afraid that we just can't fit you in during the day'. How about something like that? As for the hen do...well, I hadn't even realised that this can also be a political minefield LOL! I can see how it could be now. Do you know what you are doing yet? Will there be any restrictions such as monetary, distance, overnight stays etc that could eliminate some of them? I'm so sneaky, I'd probably go down that route and say something like 'we've got a private area booked at suchandsuch restaurant. But they will only allow 20 people in that area. it would be great to catch up with you before the wedding, so why don't we have a drink/dinner before?'. I dunno - hope that helps a bit!

We were exactly the same, and only wand fifty.

We are only inviting family we see regularly to the day do, then the rest to the night. Everyone lives close by so it's not like they need to travel just to get to an evening reception.

There was a bit of resistance from mil2b who said that hardly any of her family were invited, then I pointed out that most of the family coming were her side, she was just a bit peed of because we said we weren't inviting her cousin (not h2bs cousin, her cousin)
But she got over it xx

You're limited by the venue - say it early and say it often. They will get it eventually.

I'd say numbers at the venue are restricted for the day, simples, the it isn't your fault. I've idea about the Hen do. Although, technically it isn't organised by you, your CBM/MOH arranges everything, could you do something quick and painless inviting everyone and then having a more special fun smaller one with the chosen ones you really want to share your hen with?
