I'm planning on having some acrylic nails put on about 4 weeks before my big day so I can get used to them, then I'l have re-fils done on the day before with a french polish on the morning. There is a plan in there somewhere.

I'm not a nail biter, but a skin around the nail biter - always sore but still havent learnt my lesson after 33 years x

I already have longish nails so I'm just
having a manicure a few days before the
    wedding.

I used to bite my nails so short that they
bled. You may find that if u was to have
acrylics they may come off after a few days
because the really need a little bit of nail
to attatch them to.. Well that's what I found
when I use to have them on years ago... Xx

I usuallly get mine done using UVA acrylic. But its expensive. however, for my xmas night out I bought a set of £5 fake ones from tesco, they looked good and lasted for 2 weeks!! very easy to stick on too.

i'd suggest atleast 4 weeks before to get either gel or uva acrylic this way you get used to them and it gives your own nail a chance to grow a bit.......i'd also suggest to go to a reputable technitian and remember the cheapest one is not always the best ones

my UVA's only look good for about 2 weeks...... and that is with cleaning them regular with non-acetone varnish remover and re-coating with shiny top coat.

I heard about gel nails somewhere. Are they the same as acrylic?

like the other girls have said get them done at least 4 weeks before to get used to them and then have them done again the day before. I have tried acrylic and silk and found silk to be the best, hope this helps x

Hjl gel is different to acrylic...... when i used to have them the acrylic is a powder based product and the gel looked like really thick nail varnish but it is easier to take off and much better on your nails but they are often easily come off and need extra care in the first instance to stay on........ i had to have mines done a couple of times before they took to my nails but if you are only going to do this for a short period of time then my suggestion would be the gel, however to confuse things a bit more the silk ones are really good too....sorry to confuse you

There is an alternative to acrylic nails known as "gel" but does anyone know what they are like?

*sorry just realised someone has already asked this*

I have gel nails and have also tried acrylic and fiber mesh too. gel is a little kinder as they can be soaked off more easily if need be. I would recommend having white tips if you are having either american or french manicure as the line you get on your nails is great esp as you will be showing off your hand all day

If ur nails are really short, gel nails wouldn't be a good idea at all! I normally have acrylics, but for my last holiday i decided I'd try the gel as they're better for ur nails! They snapped off after only being on for 2 days! (I'm a nail biter to! so my nails were just too short!) acrylics are deffo the best to go for! They last longer and are more hard wearing! i agree with the other girls, get them done about 3 weeks to a month b4 to get used to them! Xxx

i used to have acrylics all the time. i used to normally just have the air brush french design but found it would chip. prob to do with my old job. anyway i then tried the white tips and loved them. i am prob going to get them done at the weekend and then keep them till after the wedding.

i just done understand why they are more expensive than if you had plain acrylics and then airbrushed as they have less work to do! xx

I have just over a year, and i am a very bad nail biter.
I am starting a whole health regime now, including gym, healthy eating (no diets though!) facial skin care etc....

As well as this i will be going down to body care in town and getting a couple of packets of short, petite sixe glue on nails which i have used before on nights out and find them easy to do and not too long and they last. My plan is that whilst wearing them i will massage my cuticals and while not wearing them i will apply varnish to what little nails i have to encourage growth. I am giving myself a year to stop the biting habit and let them grow, then i will start having acrilics done after they have grown a little bit.

Resulting in a set of acrylics 4 weeks before, then going in for refil and touch ups the day before or something.
My nails are a big sore point for me and i am very self concious about them so have given this a lot of thought.
