So Ive found a great band Id like at the reception, but the quote ive been given is a lot more than wot id expected!! They have quoted £1689!
Its 4 the travel of the band, 2 hours set, another 2 hours DJ, They do r 1st dance, all their sound and lights and dancefloor lighting, I can also pick the songs I want that they play and for the DJ bit
I was expecting about a grand, but this seems a lot?
    What do others think?

That seems about average for the package entertainment deals that ive seen. if thats broken down into sections:

    DJ - around £200-300
    Dancefloor LED - £500
    Lighting rigs £250
that leaves about £800 for the band which is about average

can you ask them for an itemised bill and then maybe decide if theres something you can live without? xx

Hmmm not sure, where are you based??
A band I really like do a variety of packages ranging from just DJ to Acoustic Duo (during ceremony or reception) & Full House Band. Ranging from £600 for basic right up to if I want acoustic duo/Band/DJ the most I'm looking for at is £1200.

Then again if you have major lighting rigs/dance floors etc that might be where the extra pennies come in as sounds like one hell of a band get up! It doesn't seem as much when broken down but maybe as Natalie suggested, ask for an itemised bill? Do they also mention on their website or somewhere about working around a specific budget, as you may be able to do a bit of haggling, say your budgets max is £1200 or £1500 or something, yes may only be £100 cheaper but still every little helps.

    Good luck xx

ah there you go... london prices!!
I saw an amazing band and they were based in London, and were wanting to charge £2.5k to play in the West Midlands inc travel food accom etc etc... so £1600 is a bargain in that respect!
If you love them that much then maybe see about bargaining a little bit with an itemised bill or just save elsewhere... we've gone for a more expensive photographer and beautiful album all included and going for a simpler cake etc... you work things around! x

London is expensive, and if they are travelling from London to Suffolk, they'll be factoring in quite a bit for travel; you're also getting a lot of 'extras', such as the lights.

If you really like them, see if they can work to a smaller budget: maybe you could do away with some of the lighting for eg, or with the DJ? If your venue has a sound/PA system, you may be able to play a loaded iPod through it; this would likely save you some money.

lol yeah i had a quote 4 a DJ and its 250 4 the nite but DJs r a lot cheaper as there is less involved. I really wanted a band coz of the atmosphere they create. I mite just budget elsewhere perhaps?? Agghhhhh WOT 2 DO!!!

I agree with getting an itemized bill, it'll help to explain the costs and allow you to compare.

I think it's coz it's a London band. If they are really special to you I would go for it if you can find it in your budget. I think a good band is really important for a reception xx
