Thought it would be interesting to see what sort of excuses have been given for not coming to a wedding

Can't get time off work (Understandable but this was why I sent out the invites months in advance); can't find a baby sitter e.t.c I could understand if I asked at the last minute but I asked everyone months ago for these very reasons and I said they are welcome to bring their babies :S

Not my wedding, but know someone who didn't come to a wedding because his girlfriend didn't get an invite (she hadn't met the couple) he said he was coming right up until the day before

Another person missed the ceremony because he had a flat tire... but managed to get to the reception after ''blowing it up'' himself

Hoping we don't get any silly excuses

On the day of our wedding a guest called to say himself and his girlfriend and her son shall not be attending due to the fact they had been in court that week with he ex regarding their divorce. Now I thought it was lame, especially as it was three hours before the wedding. They knew they were not coming, and to be honest I think it woud have done them good to come and enjoy themselves.

My cousin left s message on my wedding event FB page which was set up over a year ago with the date after I sent out save a dates to say him and his family won't be coming as they have booked a holiday and won't be back until 4 days after. Really annoyed because he has very obviously had plenty of warning and he has been to my sisters wedding and every other family members. I feel like ringing him up and saying "what the heck?" We've always gotten along really well, he was the first kind face I met when I was 7 the night we moved to scotland giving me a slice of cheese pizza, he use to babysit me and my sister as well as my fellow Buffy watcher. Feel really let down :(

My friends cousin didn't go to her wedding because he didn't have any shoes! Now that is a bad excuse! We had one not come because he broke his foot, another forgot and took his grandad out instead (he was my hubby's friend) and the ushers girlfriend didn't come to the ceremony because she didn't want to be sitting away from him and then she came for the wedding breakfast which wouldn't have happened if I had have realised that she wasn't at the ceremony! Xxx

I didn't go to my friend's wedding because we got a phone call that morning to say that we could collect the keys to our first place together (first time mortgage). We did however go to the reception afterwards and they were so happy for us! I felt so guilty initially, but the couple said they would have done exactly the same, plus they said it was another reason to celebrate!

I know, we think he couldn't find the Church as it was a bit out of the way, but he was too embarrassed to say. Funny thing is the tire thing was probably worse.

I hope when/if I get stupid excuses I manage to keep my cool, but at the moment I think I'd feel like just screaming at people. We're paying a lot of money for this, especially if people are letting us down last minute with silly excuses. But I suppose when it comes to your day, you shouldn't care as you should be having the best time anyway marrying the person you love.

I really hope we don't have anyone let us down, we moved the date so it was of no inconvinience to parents with kids in school and sent out STDs 18 months before.

Excuses I've been given so far it's on a awkward day, to far away, why in cornwall??
Others don't know if I'll have a test at uni don't know when I'll be at uni ??

I gave everyone the invis last year also been telling them for the whole of 2014 before invites even sent out so Its ridiculous to be honest and people trying to make it out like Friday not a good day to get married etc it's my day not anyone else's day so if they turn up they turn up if they don't they don't Xxx

One of my evening guests is due within days of the wedding so she's not sure yet - perfectly fine to me!

2 who aren't coming are going on holiday (same time every year) or can't get it off work (bar work over Easter bank holiday IS a nightmare to be fair)

Don't think we've had many that aren't coming, or at least with silly excuses.

We have had so many just not RSVP, or RSVP no with no reason given - and I am so far too busy/can't be bothered to ring them up and ask why maybe I will ask when I see them. Luckily so far it is only distant relatives and people we only half expected to come anyway.

I have one friend due within days of the wedding so she is a maybe but will do her best, understandable!

A cousin (who I never see any more but have childhood memories with) is so far not coming because she can't bring her boyfriend (who we have never met) but I think this is just a ploy to get what she wants, as she did have a bit of a wobble when I said 'oh well that's a shame let me know if you change your mind before the deadline' think she expected me to say he could come because she threw a strop.

I actually just sent a text today to all my family and daytime guests to say 'you do need to formally RSVP otherwise you will not have a seat or any food haha joking not joking.' Got a good response a few had just forgotten and a few didn't think they had to RSVP. This was prompted by about 4 people in the last week saying to me 'you know I'm coming don't you' uh yeah you are a bridesmaid so I was kind of assuming so, but what to you want to eat? Do you want a room reserved? Are you bringing anyone?
