I think we finally have all the food for our evening reception sorted.

Our day guests will have a 4 course wedding breakfast and I'm guessing evening guests will have eaten during the day (their fault if they decide to starve themselves)

Do you think this sounds enough for the evening buffet?

The buffet which we've chosen from our venue is

    Fresh bread
    Cold meats
    Cheeses
    Salads
    Pickles

we are also going to add on some pork pie (loads of pork pie, different flavours of it)

then we will also have our wedding cake cut up on the buffet and we have booked a candy cart?

Does this sound like enough for a wedding reception?

Evening guests will most likely be hungry and expect to be fed. As long as the venue cater for the number of guests you are expecting you'll be fine.

Oh yeah, I know they'll not have eaten for the evening and will expect to be fed :) I would if I got an invite to an evening reception as well, just wondering if the range would be enough.... numbers are going to be slightly out, as things like the candy cart will feed less then what we have their but the cake will feed more and the pork pie's will feed slightly less as well, but I'm assuming not everyone will eat pork pie and same with the cart as we know people who don't have a sweet tooth and people who don't eat meat ect.

The venue ask that we cater for 90% of the guests, which again I think will mean they will put plenty on, as when I went to our friends wedding I didn't even look at the evening buffet as I was stuffed from the food we'd eaten during the day.

Looks ok. We don't get a choice on our buffet, but the amount of food seems decent enough.

Sounds fine; plenty of food, and things like bread and cheese are nice and filling.

Just make sure there is something for everyone as there are dietary needs to consider, I always struggle at evening receptions as I have a dairy allergy.

To be fair, dairy allergy you could have cold meat with bread, salad and pickles... pork pie without the crust, sweets from the buffet.

The only things you couldn't have from ours would be cheese, cake and any salads that have sauce (just in case) or chocolate from the candy buffet. Now if we have a vegetarian who also has a dairy allergy they'll have to have bread and salad.... we did consider having the hot carvery sandwiches, but decided this option was better as it had the cheeses on it as well so it was an option for vegetarians whereas by the looks of it the hot carvery one's their option would be bread, potatoes and stuffing.

We don't know any vegans who and the vegetarians we know don't have dairy allergies and love cheese-so don't think we have an issue there.

If we know anyone with a wheat intolerance they'd have to avoid the bread.

Off the top of my head I can't think of any other allergies, but as far as I know the people I know with any dietary requirements are either vegetarians or dairy allergies and like I say not both together, so we know we have them covered.

A lot of evening receptions I've been to though don't have those options, they're all things cooked in or wrapped in or contain some form of dairy, some cold meats are cooked with butter or have milk proteins added to them. Many foods have hidden dairy in them which people wouldn't even realise, even bread can be made with milk.

As long as you're sure you have catered for all your guests that's fine.

My favourite aunt is a coeliac vegetarian (A complete pain in the backside) We will cater for her main meal but SHE has told me not to bother about making sure she has anything for the evening buffet.

If she wasn't having a main meal with us and just coming at night I would make sure she could have something even if it was agreed with the venue that she got a plate of something separate.

We're not having a massive evening buffet, just a cake of cheese, some cold meats etc. We certainly wont be catering for the numbers of evening guests we are inviting - its just not feasibly financially possible.
The evening only guests are coming for drinks and dancing - we're having our reception in a wine bar so its not like its in a hotel out somewhere....theres at least 4 kebab shops close by if they get hungry by midnight as that's when the license ends :-)
The day time guests arent getting fed until 5pm so they shouldnt be that hungry.

We were advised to cater for 75% of our total guests for the evening. Once you cater for 100 covers though at our venue the cost per head dropped which meant you paid exactly the same for 75 people as you would for 100 so we ended up catering for 100 people which was the majority of our guests and even the day guests who had just eaten 2 hours earlier were really tucking in.
