Hi all I get married October 14th in Turkey and having a reception at home when we return. We'll be having cake cutting, first dance and buffet. Starts at 7pm ending at 12. I've no idea what order/time is best to have everything so looking for some tips please x

To give you a rough idea our evening reception will be starting at 7.30 with the cutting of the cake at 8.15, first dance at 8.30 and the buffet from 9 onwards. These timings were advised by our venue xx

Thanks fellow brides to be.. This is very helpful!
. Would like your opinion on making a an entrance too.. We were just going to be there and greet everyone as they arrive.. Even though we're only having this reception, so you think it would be nice for us to enter the room together maybe at 7 30?

Could do a receiving line as people enter the reception. My cousin did this and it was lovely. they were all dressed in their wedding outfits too but went to change afterwards except the bride. I think she stayed in her dress

I would possibly think about doing the cake cutting before the first dance as it might be a bit of a stall in the evening if the music suddenly turns off to do the cutting.
Perhaps you could ask your best man or father of the bride to announce you in for your first dance and you sort of make an entrance onto the dance floor. My worry for a receiving line would be that they work with day guests because everyone is already there but if you do it at the door and some people are prompt to arrive but others don't show up til later, you end up hanging round the door waiting for people instead of enjoying time with your guests. X

I'm looking at doing exactly same type of thing, was your reception venue easy to accommodate without the wedding breakfast? Need to start looking at places see what's best

A family friend did this as they got married in the states so had an evening reception in the UK a couple of months later. They mingled with guests as they arrived then they had a receiving line before the evening properly started. They didn't do any cake cutting or have a first dance. They did speeches and a Chinese tea ceremony which was great! Everything kicked off at 7.30pm.
