We have only just decided this week to invite a few more people along to join us at night as we now have exclusive hire of the castle and we will be putting out a finger buffet. We have been quoted £9 per head for sandwiches, sausage rolls and chicken goujons I will have my cake cut up and put out as I have two different flavours. Does £9 per head sound a lot for only 3 selections?

it sounds a lot to me, i couldnt find a caterer buffet option that i liked the sound of, they all seemed so limiting, hence why i am doing mine myself now.

I would be happy to do my own but they don't allow it and I really need to offer food at night. There will only be about 60 of us and we will cater for 50 but thats still going to be £450

I'm paying £14/head for 9 options plus salad so it does sound a bit pricey but saying that your venue is a castle so i imagine if you have exclusive use of the place they need to make money back somehow. Maybe speak to the venue and try get another option of two for £10 or ask them if you have to pay for every guest that is there. we are having approximately 175 at the evening do but as 80 of those are day guests we figured a lot of them will have been eating for hours so wont want as much at night so i spoke to my venue and he said you can pay for as much or as little as you want but when its gone its gone sooo we are paying for about 75% of our guests and we reckon thats still enough for everyone to have one plate and then maybe only a few get double servings....its worth a though though if you are wanting to keep costs down. :)

oh you got there before me with the paying for less idea......can you not barter a bit and try got it for 400? xx
Yeah I might just cater for 40 as we are getting married at 3pm and not sitting down to the meal until 5pm so I might get away with a smaller buffet. Nightmare lol

We're paying £10.50 a head for 3 different types of sandwiches, Spare ribs, sausage roll, teriyaki chicken skewers, scampi, mini spring rolls, half jacket potatoes chips, salads, new potatoes, garlic bread, and dips/sauces.
So £9 does sound like quite allot, but does that £9 per head cover the room hire? or is that on top of the price? Like MrsWade2b said maybe see about only paying for 75% of the guests, thats similar to what we're doing.
Hope you get it sorted :) x

Im paying £10 ph for 6 options and are doing it for 75% of guests, we also are inviting a few extra as we dont think the hotel will count all are guests :) and we know not everyone will eat at the buffet. Im also doing my own sweetie bar to go alongside the buffet. Im sure if you speak to your venue, you can come to some sort of agreement as most places are willing to compromise x
CommentAuthorSweetchilli
That £9 per head is on top of the room hire unfortunately.
CommentAuthorbridalmiss
Can you get external food brought in? If so then check out m and s, they do platters and all sorts and I think you'd get a lot more for your £9 per head - that probably has 20% VAT on top of it too, right?
CommentAuthorMrs Cerutti2b
Think you should have a word with them then about the buffet options, as with mine it covers the cost of the room hire for the day before (for setting up) and the full day of the wedding, and also covers the bridal suit for getting changed in pre wedding, and for the night to stay. If you're not happy with the choices they gave you, just see if they can offer you something extra. Its them who want your money, so make them work for it ;) xx
CommentAuthorSweetchilli
They don't allow outside caterers unfortunately and your right bridalmiss there will be VAT on top
CommentAuthorSweetchilli
Thanks Mrs Cerutti2b, I will definitely have another chat with them.

Ok, so £9 is really £10.80 with VAT - you need to negotiate on price or agree to have more included for the money - if you were buying a sandwich, sausage roll and some goujons from a hot deli counter for your lunch you'd still only pay abut £5-6 from a supermarket - and the catering will be done in bulk too so loads cheaper! Best of luck xx
CommentAuthorMrs Cerutti2b
Good luck with it, and if needs be, go for full bridezilla mode! and make them earn every penny! its the only time you'll be able to get away with it, being a B2B , so make the most out of it lol x

Thanks for your advice ladies, I will definitely take it all onboard. xxxx

Ours is around £7 for hot dogs, bacon butties and chips, so your's does seem quite expsenisve. Why don't you ask your venue could they do a bbq? Say a hotdog and burger per person, I imagine would be less than £9
CommentAuthorlinzmum
we are paying £8.50 per head for sandwiches, sausage rolls, quiche, mini pizzas, vol-au-vents, and spring rolls. we are also hoping for a cheese selection board and will have our cake as desert along with a candy table for wedding favours
Soon to be joined together as the Wheeler family, can't wait
Doing thing our way xxxx
CommentAuthorMrsWade2B
we really wanted a BBQ but our venue charges £26/head for the privilege....admittedly there is a hog roast and burgers and sausages plus jackets and salads but i just could not justify that AT ALL!
Hope you get somewhere sweetchilli! xx

it depends on the choices as we could be paying up to 20 for 6 choices so it all depends on the quality of what you are going for x
