Hello All, I hope you can help me, will anyone give me any tips into how much involvement bridesmaids should have with regard to choosing the bridesmaid dresses. I know what i would like but my bridesmaids want to be involved!!

    What are your thoughts

I pretty much let my bridesmaids choose their dresses, but they had to be the same dress in the colour i wanted. i did say if i didnt approve of the dress they chose then i would pick for them. Luckily the first dress they chose i loved, so it was really easy! You have the main say, so all go and look at them together, you never know you may all like the same dress like we did.

Good Luck though, i know some of the other brides have had issues when it comes to bridesmaid shopping. xx

I did the same as Antonia9, and luckily they liked the first dress that I showed them. Again they all said that (within reason) they would wear anything picked for them ... they knew I wouldn't pick something horrific!

I suggested a long one shouldered chiffon dress, and although they all thought it was lovely - one was concerned how it'd make her boobs look, the other preferred a shorter length, etc... I managed to get them to try it on, and decided as my 14 year old sister is extremely self conscious, I would go with whatever she wanted... none of the girls contributed to their dress so I thought it was fair that way. Fortunately they all loved the dress I liked, and my sister had a little smile and a twirl so I'm dead happy xxxxx

If one of my bridesmaids really didnt like a dress then i wouldnt make them wear it, i want them to feel happy and comfortable as well. I was quite lucky though and chose a dress that they all like so havent had any major dramas over it.

Why don't you all go dress shopping together and find dresses that you all agree on? You could make a fun day of it, going shopping and having lunch. Xx

I have chosen the dress they will wear (I am paying for it after all), however, if they didnt like it I will take that into consideration. They have to wear it all day. So a certain level of compromise is appropriate.

i chose their dresses even though they were paying as they all said its my day and they'd wear whatever I wanted - obviously I wanted them to like them though so they could wear them again. Luckily they all loved the first one I suggested so we didn't have any problems :o)

I'm having the same dilema! Especially as I want to stick to a budget and don't want them to pick something too expensive.

Although I am still undecide if I want 2 bridesmaids or none - ideally I want only one but I cant tell my sister no as she will be devastated if I choose someone else over her! So either I won't have a problem or will have an even tighter budget!

I agree with Emma, I have chosen my bm's dresses again I am paying however I would never make them wear something they weren't comfortable in. I also choose the colour (emerald green my fav) but because I thought it would look lovely on my red head sister and olive skinned cousin.

i found one in the shop ages ago and it was £140 each i know thats not much with two of them but i didn't have that kind of money in the budget, so i found a website that did them from sort of £20 upwards and managed to get their dresses at £39.95 each and then i got them their shoes one pair was £15 and the other £5 in the sale and after much messing about by the supplier.

i picked the ones i liked with them having a look at the website too to see which they preferred but i had the last say

we chose one we liked for the bridesmaids ( a simple white cocktail dress) as we're paying for them. Luckily they all liked it

the matron of honour we let choose her own dress as long as it was either white or baby pink and went well with the others we had already brought.

I took the bridesmaids shopping and told them to choose whatever the all felt comfortable in (4 of them). I just asked that they all picked one colour and amazingly they picked the colour that matched my other halfs kilt. It only took them 35mins too!

I have told my bridesmaids that as long as the dress is floor length and all of them are wearing the same shade of green (which we have picked together) and all in the same material (looking like chiffon atm) they can have whatever dress they like. My sister is a bit on the larger side and so has been looking at dresses with thicker straps but one of my other bridesmaids prefers the one shouldered style). This means that my maids wont all be dressed exactly the same but will have a similar theme running through them all.

I've done the same as MrsWade2B! I said that they can choose any chiffon floor length dress from the Dessy range as long as it comes in cornflower blue. They are all so happy and look fantastic all dressed in different styles that really suit them and their body shapes xx
