One of my work friends just posted a coment on her face book saying this: "is not exactly thrilled to read a watchdog report on ernest jones whilst in the middle of trying to get a faulty ring replaced. wouldn't mind so much but the ring means a lot to me"
So i asked her what was it as this was where h2b got my engagement ring from and my diamond fell out of it so at the moment its off to get looked at to see if was my fault or a manufacturing fault well anyway i googled it and found out im not the only one even though the manage that i spoke to when i went back to ernest jones said she's never seen this before???????????? Im not the only one but ive already been told by the lovely people at Smooch who is making my wedding ring that they will fix my ring well thats what the smooch guy said to me on another thread so fingers crossed they still will but sadly i dont hear back from ernerst jones till friday to see whats happening with my ring. I jsut want it back now!!!!

I've heard a few horror stories about Ernest Jones and I've had a pair of diamond earring's from them before and the diamonds fell out, when I took them back they wouldn't do anything about it as the hole where the diamond sit's was green, they said that's caused by chemical's from hair shampoo etc so it was my fault they had fallen out. I'd never ever wore them washing my hair and had always been so careful with them so I was fuming!

I know this isn't the same as they're not exactly diamonds but my parents bought me a pair of beautiful pearl studs from Ernest Jones for my birthday last year and one of the pearls fell off the stalk (is that the right wor for it?). Anyway to cut a long story short, it was also my fault and earrings could not be replaced anyway! xxx

I think im lucky to have found my diamond not once but both times its fallen out but the first time it fell out i seen it on my daughters bottom lip while i was feeding her!!!! but as ive posted on another thread that i found my diamond again after i had went into ernest jones to see if it was my fault or a manufaturing fault but im now hoping that i can send it to the smooch people to get it fixed now as i trust them alot more now. Its a shame my h2b didnt get my engagement ring from smooch as well

I had a nightmare when I snapped my diamond necklace on a tiny thin chain, I had to buy a whole new pendant to get the chain replaced!! They gave h2b the wrong ring to the code they gave him & it was also the wrong size. His wedding ring was sized up wrong as they didn't realise the letter R was missing off their guage. Ruined the whole experience for £25 voucher compensation...no thanks!!

My h2b got my ring from them, and I am on to ring 4. The diamond was spinning so wasn't set right, and when they reset it they marked the diamond, so we got it replaced...for it to happen again! So ring 3 was too big, but ring 4 was perfect...until the diamond started to spin again! had enough but it was all fixed and we got a box of chocolates and an extended waranty! I am happy with my ring now, but completly agree, it spoils the enjoyment of it all! Good luck getting it fixed! xx

well i got my engagement ring from there and wedding ring from there and haven't had any problems!!!! i just thought i would put some positivitey towards the company as i couldnt fault their service so far!!!
it just sounds like its manufacturing faults as opposed to the company but they really should be understanding and willing to co operate!!

I agree with you Jodie - you only see websites about the bad things, never the good. My engagement ring is from Ernest Jones and I've not had any problems (got it in October 2009). As for H Samuel and Ernest Jones being the same company - yeah I think they are, but you'll find that Ernest Jones is the more expensive of the two, H Samuel appealing more to the masses because of their prices.

My engagement ring was from H Samuel, I wish we had gone somewhere else. The ring is fine and I love it, but the woman who served us when we went to pick it up was a nightmare! she was constantly moaning about her knees and back for a start but even worse she worried us by saying they didn't have my ring in the store! they did, she just wasn't looking hard enough, dopey mare. I was really excited about picking my ring up but the horrible woman in the shop put a downer on the experience.
Can't wait until the day I become Mrs. Johnson :)

i got my ring from ernest jones, two months after i had it, the centre diamond fell out, i went back to the shop in derby and they exchanged it there and then for a different ring, the ring was also reduced so i got a more expensive ring for the same money, they were really nice and very helpful :) x

We originally looked in H Samuel for an engagement ring. In the city centre shop the assistant kept looking at his watch and sighing because they were shutting in half an hour or so (as if we'd just buy the first ring I tried, silly man).
We browsed in the White Rose centre branch and the assistant there asked if we needed help. When we said we were just looking, she nudges me and says in a dopey voice 'oh you'll have to drop some hints to him' wtf!!!
The woman in Ernest Jones was lovely, and had so much time for us. I think I tried on half the rings in there but she was very patient lol. We've bought our wedding rings at F Hinds in Huddersfield but no diamonds in them so they should be ok lol.

I totally recommend Beaverbrooks, my OH brought my E-ring from there and they were fantastic. I can drop it in to be redipped and cleaned whenever I like. I have 10 years insurance which was free and then there were further options which were really cheap. They aren't the cheapest of jewellers but they have beautiful stuff, however I think I'm going to have my wedding ring made by smooch, they seem great and my E-ring is such a strange shape, the diamonds are sqaure and a normal band doesn't fit against it, so I need to have one made

mines form ernest jone shun! h2b got my ring 2 sizes too big took it back and within 3 days got a new ring in my size, they dint try alter my ring a completely new 1! i had such good customer service!

I've not had any problems with them myself. My engagement ring is from there and is still fine, in fact they cleaned it for free before Christmas even though it was well past the year they give you to have it done. Also popped in last week to ask about having wedding rings resized before the wedding as they're a bit big but don't want to have them done yet in case we get fat fingers before then! She said they'd replace (not resize!) them for free as its their mistake but that I could still wait til nearer the time. So as someone else above says, I think sometimes you only hear the negative comments and never the good ones :o)

They clean it as part of the guareentee. They did that with mine in sept 10 and then as i got close to the end of my pregnancy i wasnt wearing it as i had put on some weight in my fingers but after my daughter was born in oct my fingers went back to normal but i still didnt wear it much as my hands was so dry and was always putting on moisturiser and didnt want my ring to be covered so started wearing it again in dec/jan time and then in march thats when my diamond fell out.

Clarabella - I know they clean it as part of the guarantee, but that only lasts for a year. What I was getting at is that they cleaned mine well over 18 months after it had been bought. They took my word for it that h2b hadn't been told about the service when he bought it originally. Got to say I've bought loads of jewellery from there, for myself and as gifts and never had a problem with any of it xx

ive been told to stay away from them. BM got married etc and just after her wedding day thought she had lost the diamond to her wedding ring. Luckily it was on her glove. ring brought from EJ. Another friend had a ring, three weeks later, stone fell out. Sister had a ring, one week later stone fell out and a lengthy process of getting it sorted that dragged on for 6 weeks. Same sister got a bracelent, stones fell out. Bit funny how these are the only ones I know that brought from there and EVERY item for EACH of them was faulty. I am defo staying away. Get smooch to sort it for you as you dont want this happening again.

I didn't realise H Samuel and Ernest Jones were the same company but anyhoo my wedding ring is from H Samuel and is a white gold band with 3 very small diamonds inset into the band. I have had no problems with it at all and the staff there were really friendly and helpful. As for my engagement ring it was bought at Goldsmiths and although they tend to be a more expensive jeweller the service there was really good too, we were given plenty of time to choose and I get the diamond cleaned every year for 10 years.

My engagement ring is from EJ, as well as another ring that I've had for 4 years, and a few necklaces - never had any problems with any diamonds falling out - but I guess like a few people have said, these things happen. I'd hate it if anything like that happened to mine, so really feel for those its happened to! My E-ring had to be resized when I first got it and had to buy a cheapy replacement as I felt lost without it!

I have my engagement ring from Ernest Jones & had never heard any of this...worried now. No problems with it (touch wood) but would be devestated if something went wrong. Got our wedding rings from here aswell. Kimmy - we are paying £550 for ours, so i don't think it is over the odds...absolutely love it!
On this subject...can i insure my ring on house insurance? Don't know how to insure it - as the policy my H2B bought at time - did not cover anything (unless i was mugged!!) Any advice would be gratefully received!

I have both my rings insured under my home contents insurance whittle, just give the company your home is insured with a call and ask if your rings can be included in the contents part. They usually ask how much cover you want so that it covers how much your rings were if they got lost,etc.

They never said why it was delayed but wont be impressed if its not back on monday. I went into the shop on the 30th of march so they could send it away to be checked so surely you'd think that they would of had time to decide if it was my fault or a manufaturing fault. I know there has been loads of hoildays in april but when i took my ring in she took that into fact when she said it would be ready today

whittle, you can insure it on the house insurance but if its worth a fair whack it is better to list it as a separate albulm a h2b pays an additional 20 quid a month for (dont kill) 4200 ring as with e rings often being pricy, there is more cover for it but the insurance company will help you with how to organise the insurance through the home insurance.
