Hi, we are still debating table names and thought that since we are going for a pride and prejudice sort of era, to maybe have the different eras from then to present day? All we have come up with though are: edwardian, elizabethan, georgian, victorian
We need two more or do you think this isnt a great idea. The other idea was rose names but we are not just sticking to roses anymore but white flowers in general.Another idea was to do names from pride and prejudice but the are only some like Mr Darcey, elizabeth bennet etc that are suitable as I doubt people will want to sit on some named after Mr whats his face who was the cousin that tried to take over the estate. The other idea was to list the places in Italy we are visiting but this is more modern. Any ideas? feel free to have a look at the pics as you may be better at me finding better ideas for table names based on what we have done.
UPDATE: We have now decided to go with the era and date on the front of the table name, and on the back how that date and crewe hall are linked as people are already asking about the venues history and it makes it very personal. I have put the research later in the thread. Daves mum, and my sister are loving the idea and said it should hopefully get people out of their seats and mingling to find out about whats on the other cards :)

I like the idea of characters from the story! You could have their surnames or something: Darcy Bennett Wickham Gardiner Lucas Bingley
What do you think? xxx

I've voted Italian places - it may be modern but it ties in your honeymoon x
I like the idea of italian places but really dont think it will fit the theme.
Yes the surnames may be a better idea. Are there any other for pride and prejudice. Would perhaps have to do a quick bit of web research dont remember gardiner

I've just had another thought, you could name the tables after the estates and places from the story: Netherfield Pemberley Longbourn Hunsford Rosings
CommentAuthorsuzky123
ah yes, estates are a good idea. That would work quite nicely. I will mention this to dave when he gets in x

I like the names of the estates in the film or you could do a mix of those and the characters surnames depending on how many you need

I've voted for characters name As your theme is pride and prejudice and your honeymoon is so different from your theme, always had a soft spot for Austen myself

Edwardian is meant to be 1901 to 1910 - but wiki says people say up to 1919 so could put that as the end - noone will know :)

Dave has also said he will do research on each room and depending on which research is more interesting, to go with either the eras and the history or the room names and their history. Eitherway the history will be on the back of each table name card.

I voted for Pride and Prejudice as I love Jane Austen novels. However like you say the fear would be not all your guests would understand the Pride and Prejudice theme. I do like your idea regarding the different eras relating to your venue. I was going to suggest different Jane Austen novels with a love quote from each or different authors such as Austen, Bronte, Shakespeare, etc with a love quote from each. xx

ah thats a brill idea too. We can maybe go back to that idea if this doesnt work. I am quietly plodding away and should be able to put my research on in a bit. I am having difficulty with the civil war and how it affected crewe hall as its not 100% accurate at the moment.

Update: Here is the research linked directly to crewe hall. I have checked the dates and was confused about jacobean and stuart and why they seemed to overlap but I understand that now. So the front will have the period and the date. The back will have all about what was happening to crewe hall at the time. If anyone knows anything else or is bored :) Please let me know x
• The Angevins (1154-1216) There has always been a house on the site of Crewe Hall which was owned by the De Crewe family in the 12th to 13th century. The house was timber framed, which by the time Ranulph Crewe came to build the manor house, was in disrepair and so demolished in 1615. • Jacobean (1603 - 1625) James I was the son of Mary, Queen of Scots, and had become king of Scotland at one year old to be James VI. As Queen Elizabeth I of England’s nearest relative, James succeeded to the throne of England at her death. Crewe Hall was built in this era from 1615 to 1636 for Sir Ranulph Crewe. He expected his staff to work hard, but he was a generous and caring Landlord and Master. James I sent him to the Tower of London when he objected to an increase in taxation. • Stuart era (1603-1714) James I also formed the start of the Stuart era. Crewe hall was completed in 1636, after work started in 1615. During Charles I reign, In 1642, civil war broke out between royalists and parliamentarians. Like most of the local families, the Crewe family was parliamentarian and the hall was used as a garrison against the Royalists. In December 1643 royalist forces under the command of lord Byron occupied the area as they surrounded Nantwich, a major parliamentarian stronghold early in the civil war A vicar of nearby Acton described the event: the royalists laid siege of Crewes hall, where within the house they slain sixty, and wounded many more, on St James day; but with wanting victuals and ammunition, they were forced to yield it up the next day, and themselves, a hundred and thirty six, became prisoners. Charles I lost the civil war (which was later won by Oliver Cromwell) so was beheaded in 1649. Sir Ranulph Crewe died days before the end of the civil war. The first marriages took place at Crewe Hall from 1663. • Georgian era (1714-1830) A service wing to the west in a Jacobean revival style was added to the hall in 1780. The principal interiors of the old building were redecorated in neo-classical style. Charles Dickens paternal grandmother (Elizabeth Ball) and grandfather (William Dickens) were housekeeper and butler to Mr John Crewe (MP for Chester) at Crewe Hall. • Victorian era (1837-1901) Crewe hall was extensively restored by E.M. Barry, son of sir Charles Barry, the architect of the Palace of Westminster after a fire in 1866 caused by the fire boy who overstocked the fire in the long gallery. Crewe Hall was restored in 1870, at a cost of £150,000 (£10.6 million today). This is why the hall is called as Jacobean/Victorian in style. • Windsor ( 1901 to present ) King George V and Queen Mary stayed at the hall for three days in 1913 and had breakfast in the Long Gallery. During the early days of the second world war, the hall was used as a military training camp for Dunkirk troops and as a US army camp, becoming the gun operations headquarters for the North West in 1942. From 1943-46, Crewe Hall became a prisoner of war camp for 2000 high ranking German officers.

I would like something for the edwardian era but cant find anything. The wording will all be altered and each section broken up into bullet points for each era but it gives you an idea. The date I have for edwardian is 1901-1910 but then some are classing this as windsor aaaagh
