Yesterday I was sorting paperwork out on my laptop and found my insurance certificate for my engagement ring. so then I find out that my ring is white gold and not platinum, like I was lead to believe. I dont care one bit as I love it and we had it made, but for weeks now I have been saying to Stu, can't have a white gold wedding ring against a platinum engagement ring and he didnt say anything. He reckons I knew. But I wouldny have gone round all the Jewellers in Stevenage trying to find something that fitted with my ring in platinum, lol! daft g*t. Least I can get something at a reasonable price now. xxxxx

I dont think this is a rear thing. This happened to my friend but she went back to the shop and got the same ring but in paltinum for the same price.

I have decided on 18ct white gold engagement ring. Its very sparkley...

But white gold is a lot less expensive than platinum. If the shop lead you to believe it was platinum then you should be able to get some money back or at least get a platinum ring for the same price like Oct12bride's friend did above.x

It was Stu who lead me to believe it was platinum. It was hand made.

my engagement ring isnt exactly a tradditional engagement ring, my h2b had a wishbone ring with 3 small diamonds on it in white gold and for my wedding ring we are having it made by the same person with another 3 diamonds but on the other side to my engagement ring so they interlock, and will also look a little like ying/yang.

My engagement ring is 18ct white gold, H2B didn't realise that this means my wedding ring also needs to be 18ct lol, was hoping to save a bit of money by getting 9ct - his is 9ct, mine is 18ct, but his still cost more than mine as his is 7mm and mine is only 3mm x

I love when h2b's make big boo boos.

My h2b was a "mature" student when he proposed (as well as being on disability benefits - long story but has had tumours in spine for years) so his income wasn't that great. He got my engagement ring from a wholesaler (John McIntyres glasgow) in 18ct yellow gold.

When we went to get our wedding rings we went to the same place so we get a 10% discount on anything further we buy and h2b thought that my wedding ring would be about half the price of the engagement ring. He's now working and earning some nice bucks and told me to choose whatever I want so I went for an eternity ring- see my pics- which was about double the price of my engagement ring and way bling-ier. As I told him, it's an investment. Not only did we get at wholesale price, made to measure and an additonal 10% off, it is valued at a higher price than we bought it for and he won't need to buy me an eternity ring when we have a baby or whenever in the future.

It was one of those moments when I was inwardly biting my lip expecting him to put on the sensible head and say no but he said fine and got himself a beautiful 18ct gold band for himself which was a bit more expensive than he had planned to spend.

I love trying it on and got them both engraved by hand in a lovely script with our names and wedding date. Ooooooooooo I can't wait!

My engagement ring is gold but I wont be wearing it once I have my wedding ring! so I dont have to worry about the different metals :-)
