I never take mine off as my mother would kill me (she thinks its unlucky) the only time i will take it off will be our wedding day and then i'll wear it on the other hand untill after the service then put it back again.
As for cleaning it so far its fine and ive had it 16 months now :-)

hey, erm i hardly ever take my ring off!! it gets cleaned when i wash up cos and i use fairy liquid which is supposed to be really good for cleaning it (according to smooch) plus when i shower/bath it gets cleaned too. i just feel really uncomfortable without it on!! but iv been told that im not supposed to wear it on my wedding day (though cant remember why) which im not too happy about so i think i'll put it back on again as soon as ceremony over lol xxx

I take my ring off as soon as I get in from work and I never wear it in the house unless we have visitors. It is a big stone (green amethyst) and the first day I got it (3 months after we got engaged) I managed to get a HUGE scratch right down the centre of the stone. Many people cannot see it but I know it's there. I am going to get it polished out before the wedding but that obviously makes the stone smaller.

I don't wear my ring during the following:

    In bed at night
    When cooking
    When cleaning
    Swimming or other exercise
    During long walks

I always keep it in it's little box on my dresser so I know where it is.

Can't wait until the day I become Mrs. Johnson :)

I havn't had my engagement ring on for about 8 months now!! :-(

Two reasons firstly because we split up last year for a couple of months so obviously I took it off during that. And as I wore it everyday in the pool on holiday last year the chlorine really tarnished it- so I refused to wear it until it's been sorted. It's been away at the jewellers for about a month now, so hopefully will get it back soon.

After I get it back on- I will NEVER go swimming with it on again.

Jessrabbit. If you look at some of our other posts you'll find lots of information on cleaning your ring but basically, asuming its a gold, palladium or platinum with diamonds you can just soak it for a few minutes in warm soapy water with a 3 or 4 drops of houshold ammonia in it (available form Boots etc). Then VERY CAREFULLY brush it using a soft toothbrush. Finally rinse under the tap (with the plug it!) & pat it dry with kitchen towel or tissue to remove all of the water. If its white gold which has started to yellow you'll need to get it replated with Rhodium. This will cost anything from £20 - £50 or could possibly be free under your guarantee.

Taking it off for doing the dishes etc is very wise and I would never recomend wearing white gold if you're ina pool or hot-tub - the Chlorine can dame the surface of the ring. Never wear jewellery on the beach as the sand can cause enormous ammounts of damage.

As for wearing it after the wedding - most brides continue to wear their engagement ring on the same finger but its becoming more common to do as they do in other parts of Europe and move the engagement ring to the other hand.

In the end its YOUR choice - don't be bullied!

I take mine off for baking or other cooking where I really get my hands in (I don't want rotting meat or cake mix stuck in it). I also try to remember to take it off for gardening or very hands on cleaning (i.e. doing the bathroom or enormous piles of dishes). Although I don't go much at the moment due to illness, I do take it off for exercise.

Otherwise it's on all the time unless I'm cleaning it, which I do regularly. It's a big stone so fingerprints and smudges show up much more than on smaller stones.

I've had mine about 3 months and pretty much wear it all of the time, but I've started taking it off recently when showering/washing up in case it gets damaged, but after reading this I may just leave it on! I love wearing it and hate taking it off so would be much happier to keep it on! I'm worried that the band may get damaged though as it is white gold and I know that it's not as long lasting as platinum or other metals.

I used to wear my E-ring all the time. However I fell when out running and badly scratched to ring. So now I take them (E and wedding) off when I'm...

When in the shower- scared of the plughole!
    Dirty housework
Doing my hair (as it catches)
Running (not that I doing that at present!)
On honeymoon I took them off when going to the beach
I will take them off before going to the hospital to have the baby in a few weeks.

For me they are too precious to lose or damage, even if it means not wearing them all the time.

I take mine off for showering, as the water and shower gel/shampoo makes it slippery and I'm paranoid about losing it. I also take it off if I'm putting moisturiser on, though I usually do that after a shower. I also don't wear it if I'm doing anything messy or anything involving harsh chemicals. I'll also be taking if off on holiday during the day, as the pools are salt water, and I don't want to damage it, or lose it.

Otherwise I wear it all the time, inc to work (it has a few scratches already as a result, but I actually quite like that it's a little worn, it feels more personal it not being brand new). I'll wear it with my wedding ring when I get married.

I only ever take mines off if i'm putting on moisturises or when I'm doing some experiments in the lab (some chemicals corrode everything). I didn't even think about it slipping off when doing the dishes etc but after reading Smooch's advice I may start taking it off for cleaning and dishes etc. xxx

I take mine off for the shower, putting make up on and washing up and like a couple of others said, any intensive cooking, cleaning or baking where my hands are going to be right in there and it might get extra dirty or damaged!

I clean mine I would say once every fortnight (and for special occasions ofcourse) with a soft brush and some gentle soap and it works fine - my ring has a lot of prongs for the setting but just soap and water and a bit of a brush makes it sparkle like new.

I'm also planning to swap hands during the ceremony, but whether it goes back on my ring finger or stays on the other hand is undecided yet, when my search for a wedding ring is complete I'll know then!

I usually only wear mine when I go out of the house because it's a cluster one, it has a pointy tip and it always scratches me and h2b. I do love it but am looking forward to being married and being able to wear my wedding ring all the time as it will be just a plain band. I won't wear my engagement ring with my wedding ring but probably have it on the other hand.

Just a quick word for those planning on swapping hands...

Some people have different size hands. My engagement ring won't even go half way down my right hand ring finger. So try it out first!! My CBM wore mine during the ceremony, and gave it back when we signed the register.

I only wear it a) when I leave the house or b) when we have people round. This is mainly because it's quite fancy and I don't want to scratch my little girl when I'm changing her nappy/picking her up/playing with her. I'll leave my wedding ring on all the time though as it's just a plain band, and when my little girl's a bit bigger I'll wear my engagaement ring all the time too (I wore it all the time before my daughter was born) x

I take mine off for bed, as it's quite big and I worry about it catching on the duvet (although I do sleep in it sometimes, usually if we've been out and I've forgot after one too many ciders lol). I don't wear it when putting my make up on or doing my hair either (don't want the mousse/hairspray catching it), cleaning or in the shower.

I've noticed my ring really shines after I wash my hands with liquid soap and put just a small amount on the ring as well. Once I've rinsed it really sparkles again.

Oh also when I do zumba as it's a little big an I'm scared of it flying off!! We did have it resized after I got it but it doesn't seem to have done much. i wear mine all the time as its platinum so is normally ok with harsh chemicals except bleach. In terms of the wedding day, I am wearing it on other hand or if it doesnt fit as my fingers are funny, will give it to mum to look after so can add it after the initial photies of the wedding ring as i want pics of both rings together at some point.
