Hi! My f2b (not engaged yet!) really want to have an engagement party in Plymouth. My parents have said that they will help towards the costs. However, I am really struggling with a venue. I have almost ruled out looking for somewhere where they provide the buffet as the good ones are at least £10 a head which adds up when there's about 80 guests :(
Then there is the issue of drinks. I've been made aware that the types of venues that I like, have quite expensive drinks. So its nice venue + expensive drinks, or everyone gets cheap drinks and I'm sat staring at the dump that I've paid money to hire!
I feel like I am missing a really obvious place, but cant think where!
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks :)

What about a smaller party? Otherwise I'd be worried about it being too much like a wedding reception. Are there any nice pubs that will let you hire out all/part of the pub? Catering is often cheaper too.
Or a village hall type place? You could bring in your own food and drink, or have a cash bar? Xx

My best suggestion would be the MountBatten Centre. My husband's cousin had their engagement there. Great views. You can hire a function room by the hour, half day or full day. They had a barbecue on the terrace for 90+ people and she said it worked out really cheap per head. They also do buffets etc. We have been there a few times for events as my son does kayaking and the staff are lovely and will bend over backwards for you to book, so don't be afraid to haggle. You can also combine a watersport or activity if anyone is interested in doing anything before your evening party. xxx
