You can either get embossing tools to use with embossing stencils or you can get a machine like a cuttlebug or bigshot but I wouldnt advise you to get one of these if it was only a one off for your invites as they can be expensive. I have the embossing tools (they look like pens with a ball bearing type end) and brass stencils....you can find both types of things on bay of e.. xx

the cheapest way is probably with heat it up powder and a heat gun
you can get an embossing machem but they are quite expensive
    with the powder
you need a stamp some slow drying ink the powder and the heat gun
you stamp sprinkle pour the excess back into the pot for later use and heat until the powder melts its great and really quick

If you get embossing tools you may also need a light box as its far easier as you can see where you need to emboss. xx

Sorry may have mis read like emsy says you can emboss words/writing with ink/embossing powder/heat gun or if you want shapes ie hearts etc... to look like they are puffed out from the card you need embossing tools/stencils/light box. xxx

    ah right! :D
all i want is to emboss 2 love hearts on the insert of the wedding invitations,
so if i get an embossing tool, and a heart shaped stencil (already have a light box) this is all i need to do this?
and i just kinda rub the tool on the inside of the stencil? xXx

I've used powder and head gun with stamps - see my profile and the invites if you want to see what that looks like. Where I got them from is on my wall too if you can't find any xx
