    Hello all,

We're getting married in September 2011 in the Aberdeenshire area. We're possibly settled with having the ceremony in
Aberdeen(but are still open to considering other places in Aberdeenshire)and would love to find a reception venue as close as possible to the city. On the other hand, reception venue suggestions in the whole of Aberdeenshire are very welcome!

We too have been quite hard hit by the economic situation and are a young couple, but we wouldn't like to put off getting married because of those things, because we feel that it is the right time. So, we're going small, but would still like to have a lovely day.

Could any of you suggest good reception venues in the Aberdeenshire area. We'd be quite keen on having something historic and elegant(know quite well that castles are out of our range!) or a venue in a homely countryside style.
However, as we're quite tied to our budget the main thing we're looking is just good quality for a reasonable price whether it be a sports club, village hall, hotel etc...
Oh and the budget that we're aiming for would be about £1000-£2000 for venue hire.

    Many thanks,

    Emily

The best thing to do is contact the registry office and find out all the possible places you can legally get married if you are not getting married in church. You can then ring around everyone and find out which ones you can afford. From there visit them and see if they are what you want. The cheapest options are either the registry office or church then hiring something like a village hall. You don't have to have a formal sit down meal and can get away with serving hot soup as a welcome drink and then a buffet which you could get friends to help out by each bringing something.

If you are on a really tight budget why not ask guests if they would mind giving you money to put towards the big day rather than giving you a gift afterwards that you might not need? If you had 50 guests and they all gave you £10 (most usually give more) that would still be £500! Either that or you could ask if they mind paying for their meal so you just pay for the room and entertainment. That can also help out as the biggest part of the venue costs is food.

Thanks for the advice XjoX!! Oh and we haven't set a definite date yet as we want to be as flexible as possible, we might go for a Sunday though, so it might be the 4th :) Nice to meet another September bride though ;)
Hi mrs_rothnie2b! It's going well! I've done some more research and I've found some venues which are not so dear. I'm going to have a round of phone calls tomorrow, because we are planning to go and see some of the venues soon! Probably going to go and see the Station hotel, Atholl house hotel also considering a few places in Banchory...the list is longer, but we might actually end up going for one of these!
Oh, I've seen the Palm court brochure. I have to say it looks good we might give that place a visit as well!
Thanks again for the pointers ;)

Ok done, we now have an appointment at Palm Court! Everything that we discussed over the phone sounded great, so
I can't wait to actually go there now.. It might end up being THE venue ;)
Good to hear some feedback from you Becca, as you can never be certain when it comes to the culinary side!
