I know nails grow reasonably quick, but in the last two days all my nails decided to break and the ones that didnt break, i chewed off (in frustration at the others breaking) in a bid to having perfect nails for our big day i have decided to be a bit cheeky and have acrylics put on (im guessing my nails are no way going to grow as quickly as i would like them too)

SO my question is this, to all the ladies who have had acrylics done before, is it possible to only have them done the once and then to remove them at a later date AND i dont want them painted as my friend is going to do a design on them for me, will they leave them plain for me? Im asking as im not overly girly girly and all this hair make up and nails stuff is beginning to stress me a little

Any help would be grateful ladies thanking you in advance :)

I have my nails done loads. Go to a good one have them done like 4 days before and say they are for your wedding they will fit you in there and then and tell them to leave them clear. You dont want any paint on them. Go for clear tips not white ones. Ask them to put clear nail varnish on after they are done and make sure there is not bubbles and that they sit next to your quticuals (sp)

yea you can have them done once!! i'll just warn you thought i used to have fake nails all the time, they can take a while to get used to them and they do make yours nails weak!! took about 6 months for my nails to get strong again but for some reason they have gone really weak again xx

Im not after overly long nailsjust something that sits to the top of my finger (does that make sense) I used to be a really bad nail biter up until 6 years ago (bad toothache stopped it lol) clear tips i will make a note off (my dad was quoted 25 to 50 - is this reasonable)

where i live nail extentsions are £28 for clear tips or £30 for white tips. i think that is the average price. £50 sounds way too much. i wouldnt pay more than £35!! if you keep them then in fills are cheaper. i was a nail biter as well that is why i had my extenstions put on in the first palce and to stop me biting skin around it!! they will put the nail on and then cut them to the lenth you want so that length should be ok xx

yea, just having them once shouldnt do much damage. i was thinking about having them done again as my nails are weak at the mo anyway and am biting my skin too much but cant really afford it. will see whay my nails are like before the wedding to decide whether or not i have them. just means i have to get used to having them on again and putting in and taking out contact lenses which is a nightmare xx

depending on where you go hun you can what ever length you want, my nails are usually about £30-35 depending on which ones i pick and i never get them painted only white tips but i'll be asking for some type of minimal design for big day :)

I want them plain as my best mates daughter is a trained beautician and her nail art is stunning. and was going to get them done on the thursday before as im not working that part of the week (work nights) I did buy some false ones but am gonna give them to me mum to wear as she cant have acrylics done (flase ones will come off easier)

mine were £28 when I used to get them done (white tips). Then i did manage to grow them myself at one point but remembered I was absolutely useless at painting my own nails. I think I'm going to start getting them done again, I do miss nice pretty nails

she hasnt got the kit to do them otherwise i would have got her to do them, shes qualified but currently working in admin roles (hardly any jobs like that this way)
Painting nails takes practice, i ban anyone talking to me so i can concentrate other wise my hand starts to shake lol

But i've never had my nails done, nor someone else putting make up on me so i guess im panicing a little as to wether im making the right decision

When you go to take them off get some neat acetone from the chemist. Soak them for a while and when it starts to melt off scrap it off with a file and then soak again. Don't try and lift it from the nail or it will cause it to tear off some of the natural nails layers off. When I used to have mine done before I used to pay £28 for a new set and £15 for infills.

yeah make sure you soak them off with acetone and a nail file, acetone in a metal bowl sat on top of a bowl with hot water works best for soakimg off as its quicker....

im about to do a nail course, as i spend thousands a year getting mine down and think will go mobile and charge £20 a set and £10 infills... i can do them now but cant trade as i dont have the certificate my friend has taught me to do them and im pretty good if i do say so my self....

i think ivory/pearl tips look the most natural.. and try to go with someone that uses NSI or creative acrylics as these dont yellow and are better quality... there are some very cheap brands out there that lift and yellow easily... also have glaze and go, adds a nice shiny base

sorry but can i ask a stupid question ... whats the difference between acrylic and the fake ones you get in shops?
i want pretty nails for the big day as i have horrible chuncky man hands and nice nails will make them look better lol. Ive tried false nails and love them when they are on, but the shop bought ones all fall off before the day is half way though .. dont want that on the big day when all those photo's need taking.

    thanks ladies :)

Fake ones ping off all the time. Acrylics are painted onto your nails and are solid. It is very hard to break them if they have been done well.

I'd also mention bio sculpture gel - I've had them on mine (plus clear tips) for four years now and love them! They let your nails breathe a bit too :) good luck!

bio nails - this is what i'm getting done.

get the acryllic tips put on - but bear in mind they can take a week to set properly on your nailbed. they can be mildly sore for the first 48 hours - avoid heavy-duty hand work for the first 3 days for a new user.

acryllic tips are non-invasive nail application. they don't stab your cuticles now - usually it is electronically buffed off and you don't feel it.

some nail bars do "french tips" for as little as £16.00. get them infilled every ten days (3 weeks if you're a regular user). you can get them removed after the wedding in the salon, or you can remove them yourself using Get Em Off nail varnish remover in boots - especially for falsies.
