words...STUFF EVERYONE ELSE! dont try to please other people, it is yours and h2b's wedding not anyone elses so do what feels right for you! if you want it abroad do it, if you want a big white wedding have one, if you want a quite wedding do that, but dont do it for others, do it because its what you both want! xxxxxxxx

Oh hun! I hope by bringing up my situation that I haven't brought this to the forefront of your thoughts. It is so hard, like you mentioned on the thread I posted a couple of days ago, for a long time I had days thinking about it and then pushing it away until last weekend when it literally blew up in our face and we had to tackle the issue head on. It was really hard and I am sure along the way of our new path we will face regrets but now I feel it is OUR wedding and no one elses. Do whats in your heart. I dont know how much you have to lose as you mentioned you have more to lose, which obviously makes the decision harder for you. How does your h2b feel? xxx

For us the turning point was realising that we can get a ceremony/reception/private villa with pool/and flights, for far cheaper than its costing us just to pay for the rest of our reception venue. We will make savings elsewhere too as h2b doesnt want suits etc. He wants a cool casual white shirt and light trousers. Your circumstances may be v different and what you want from a wedding abroad may be very different but the best possible advice I can give which is what we did yesterday. Sit down trawl through brochures and internet and work out roughly what your wedding/reception/accomodation/flights and extras would cost, and compare to the balance of your wedding now. Also consider what family could go and who you have to have there to make it special and can they afford to go or can you afford to assist them in going. xxxx

stevei no u havent hun i think about it most days, in the bac of my head like im ALLWAYS questioning myself, i think h2b would prob go ballistic if i mentioned doin it abroad as we have done this loads of times now and allways come bac to doin it in england but then it never shifts the thoughts and doubts of doin it abroad.

i think to be truefully honest we both wanna get married abroad, but keep thinking about family that we want there that wouldnt be able to make it due to old age or money. so wi stick to here so ppl that are old or skint can come, i think overrall its the friends bit thats sending me in to over drive cause they dont give a toss and then i think why should we do this when u lot dont care.

when we was gunna do it before we was gunna do it in cyprus got leaflets emails etc and i was forever spending time pricing and looking it up.

but i think id prefer to get married in florida but h2b says thats tacky :-( but its princess and id love to do it and i could also have my horse and carriage :-).

maybe i should get a quote (for cyprus and florida) for me h2b and our kids then show him see what he says and take it from there.

im not sure how much deposits wed lose cause thinking about it rings and dress we wont lose as we need them no matter what.
my mum has bought and made all invites, place cards etc :-/ so i doubt shed be to happy about that as shes quiet skint her slef.
money we've paid and would lose is...
    £60 deposit on venue
£1250 paid if full for photographer :-(
£50 deposit paid on chair covers etc
all the things ive bought for centre pieces candles flowers and everything else av bought prob comes to about £500
there more aswell but i just cant think me minds goin to mush and im gettin a headache x

Are you sure it is that no one cares? I think some people think that you don't want them interfering or that you will want to leave things as a surprise for the day. I have to admit that I never really did any of the pre excitement with my friends before as even though I was excited for them and their big day I never realised that they may want me involved in things before hand.

If you do decide to go away it might be cheaper to book your photographer a flight and a room than cancel him. You can always sell things like the candles and centre pieces. Just have a good think about it before you make up your mind.

It felt quite lonely planning the UK wedding. Even Steve bless him, didnt get involved that much. Since he has said he just felt so overwhelmed by the scale of things. He is more than happy to be involved now. I have had 6 calls from family and friends today and they all seem genuinely oooo and ahhhh and talking about what they can do to get over there. I think they are feeling involved due to the distance and effort needed from them now.
I have our rough prices not including clothes/flowers/photography etc.

We've spoken to countless people and emailed even more in the past 2 days. We have worked out our ceremony will cost just over £400, we have spoke to the owner of the villa we want who said we can have it for £320 for 7 days or £550 for 14 days. We want a villa so the kids have privacy to play and the price is per villa and not per person. My Uncle has got back to us after speaking to the owner of his favourite restaurant. Hes sent pics of the inside, the outside eating area, the gardens and how its lit at night. Its very pretty. Owner says we can have 4 course meal with wine which in pounds works out at £7 per head. Which is much less than what our evening buffet was! Our other major expense would be flights but we wouldnt get these till nearer the time... but depending on where and who we go with range from £128 per person return upwards. We are aware there may be a few increases such as airport tax which is set to go up next year etc. However we come in at several thousand cheaper than the UK wedding. Also a strange thought. There are lots of 4 bedroom villas which sleep 8 that cost on average around £500 per week, which works out the same as it did per head for 8 people just to eat and drink at our wedding. We have said we may think of booking an extra villa for close family that would love to come but cant afford to pay for all of it.
Obviously we have decided we want a low key/stress free wedding now. Though in all honestly we looked at marrying on a yacht, with food and wine included etc. and it still came in cheaper than our venue.

That would be a brilliant idea if your photgrapher could go with you and would save you the biggest chunk of any losses. xxx

Could you maybe compromise and have a very small wedding abroad for those able to come, and then a party once you get back to celebrate? That will work out way cheaper and could be the best of both worlds, and those who can't make it to the wedding itself still get to celebrate with you.

If you was to cancel your wedding wouldn't you be able to get most of the money back from photographer? The wedding's over a year away and alot of companies will give you some of the money back if cancelled within a certain time frame, it'd check your contract. You need to decide where you want to get married, forget about family and friends and imagine that it will just be you and your H2B on the day where are you? Which ever you think of first is probably where you want your dream wedding to be. If you choose to get married abroad then just have a party when you get back with those that could not make it, that way you get what you want and everybody can be involved at some point. Hope that helps :) x

Oh hun maybe the best way forward would be to get some brochures or go online. There are some very beautiful elegant places in Florida and some of the most amazing gardens in the world. Build up a scrapbook of online pics or pics from brochures and Start showing him some pictures ...mickey mouse free....and explain to him your idea of what you want for the wedding. I guess some people who have never looked further into Florida will only see it as Disney, characters and hoards of kids. Men are infuriating....look past how you feel right now....Steve makes me see red at time but in the end we get this stressed because we want the best day of our lives with the best person in our lives. xxx
