    Hi Everyone

We have paid for everyone during the day to have a welcome drink, 1/2 a bittle of wine and a drink at the toast. We went to a wedding in August and I was really shocked at how much of the alcohol was actually wasted, because people didn't like the taste etc. It's a lot of money to spend if the majority of people aren't going to like it, so came up with the idea of drinks vouchers. I know we don't have to provide any drinks, but we are definitely doing one or the other.

We are having our wedding ceremony at a different location from the wedding breakfast and will be providing bucksfizz and soft drinks for the whole time we are at this location.

We did think of putting money behind the bar, but decided against it as some people might get greedy lol. I came up with the idea of drinks vouchers (5 x £2) and thought at least that way everyone gets the same to spend and if they wanted a glass of wine and it is £2.50 they would just put 50p towards it and use one of the vouchers.
So the question is if you went to a wedding what would you prefer?

I voted for the package because that's what I am doing, and the guest should feel grateful already to be offered free drinks

We've been really lucky because the venue are doing a drinks package for kids, which is costing £10 and they can have as many drinks as they want all day and night.

We are offering sparkly wine for the toasts and red and white wine for the table. My Dad also wants to pay for a free bar for after the meal for the rest of the day.

I think the vouchers - we're thinking of having a list on the table s the guests choose (and write down)their toast drink so it can be given just before the toast x

I'm really undecided. A wedding I went to recently had the staff come to each table and ask us to choose our own drink for the toast. There were conditions but I thought this was a fab idea. There were certainly no glasses of descarded sparkley lol

I like the package, as I tend to go and get really drunk on the wine no one wants and then become the entertainment for the evening. Well that's what I did a few years back, whoops. But seriously do what you think is best. I wouldn't be offended either way or not at all.

I like the idea of drinks vouchers, then people can have what they like - and as long as you're giving them welcome drinks to start it won't feel like they're not getting a drink off you anyway :-)

They wouldn't get a welcome drink at the wedding breakfast as we are providing all of their drinks at the ceremony venue.

I still think it's fine, if drinks are provided wherever then as a guest I'd be happy - have you thought about how to hand out the vouchers? I wouldn't put them with the invites as you may not get acceptances from all - unless you're paying for them after the bar has finished and they count them up - so you're not purchasing the vouchers in advance?

I voted.for the voucher, not that I wouldnt be greatful to have a free drink, but I don't like wine and there are others I know who would be the same, it would be a waste of wine as I would have a sip and then leave it, I think that the voucher is a fab I DEA think I might implement it in to my wedding xx

I voted for the voucher too as i am always the one who doesnt drink the wine provided so have to go get myself something else - and as its my day it should be my way hahaha!!!

You have got me thinking Lisa, i like this idea and think the freedom of any drink is great! I may ask when i look at venues if they could offer some thing like this......maybe provide a welcome drink of bucks fizz or OJ but then they get vouchers for the meal and toasts. Could be worth asking the venue to get the waiters, then they are taking plates away, to say to the table "toasts are coming up in 15mins if you want to get yourseleves a drink". What do you think?

Like bridalmiss asked - how would you go about giving out the vouchers? maybe on the tables with the menu and favours or something??

    :)

I was thinking of having their vouchers on their place settings, plus that way they can't copy them lol. I am actually thinking of making fake money with our heads on lol, I suppose a bit like monopoly money.

Love the idea of the fake money Lisa! It is true, so much wine is wasted at weddings and it drives me nuts when the waiting staff take half empty bottles away when if they left them out the people who are drinking could enjoy them!

We have a drinks package as part of the wedding package. Glass of wine or orange juice on arrival at venue, glass of wine with the meal and a glass of fizziness for the toast.

I like the sound of the vouchers though, never heard of that idea x

My family's wedding have always been to allow 1 or 2 drinks of the guests choice, the waiters usually come round and ask what you want for toast etc, it works quite well.

I voted for the package but that's because I like the things you mentioned :)
If I had vouchers I'd still prob get wine for dinner & sparkly for toast lol.

But if you think wine will be wasted then I'm sure the vouchers will be much appreciated by your guests! :) Xx
