I have been to a few boutiques to find my dress. I found a beautiful dress which I fell in love with, but I wanted to see if I could source it myself as the boutique was going to charge extortionate prices for extra little bits I wanted to add. I didn't mention any of this to the shop owner, who wrote down what my dress was called by whom etc etc. I went home only yo find she had lied and given me false names false designer false collection. I am so so cross! I wanted to show one of my bridesmaids who could not make it to the shop, but was met with a blank when i searched! I love the dress but even if I do not find it again I refuse to go back to the shop as I think she was so under hand with her tactics, and will tell all my bride riends to stay clear! Has anyone else had this type of problem? Gem.

i know a lot of places that dont like you to know the names because there are a lot of people now making replica dresses cheaper therefore making the bridal shops loose money so understandably i know maybe why she may of done it. the bridal shop i went to wouldnt let me take a pic until i had bought the dress or paid a deposit, once i had it was mine and i could have as many pics as i wanted!!!!.
but she could of saved herself and explained this reason maybe it wouldnt of looked bad and she wouldnt of given you fake details. xx

a lot of bridal shops rename the dresses and change the style numbers to names so that you find it difficult to find them elsewhere and to try and keep your business which i think they are entitled to do.
what kind of extras are you after? if its your veil and tiara get them elsewhere and just get your dress from there

The shop Ive got my dress from give their dresses differnet names to what the gowns actually are to make it easier for them, for example they called my dress suzzanne, i searched that and it was totally different and mine was actually called Ivank Marie. call the shop and say I tried on 'xxxxx dress' the name you gave me could you tell me its proper name please as I have searched for it to show my bridesmaid as she lives to far to get to the store and I would like to show her the dress that i'm coming in to buy off you, they dont need to know you may not buy from there now lol x

Everywhere i went they wrote down the details for me and they were all correct. Most even offered to do so for me and said 'so you can show people or remind yourself after you are back home' I agree with kempy ring the shop and explain that you tried a dress there that you loved but want your bridesmaids opinion before comitting to buy.Say unfortunately she lives away so you told her to check it out online but she is unable to find it and you were wondering if you were given the wrong details accidentally? That way the shop can say "silly us"and give you the correct details rather than having to admit that they lied to you because they didn't want you to know lol! xxx
I can't believe they lied to you, that's terrible! I'd be gutted. I understand they must lose business by people buying online etc but they should have been honest about it rather than giving you fake details xx

I think Kempy's idea is great, try to and get the real details off them, do they have a website? Maybe you could see what designers it says they stock and search for pics of that designer? I found my dresses designer by searching the description! Good luck hun xxx

I can sort of understand why they do it, but its still lying and you need to be able to trust the shop you get the dress from. The first few shops I went to would not let me take pictures (I only wanted them to show my mum cos she lives down south). But the shop where I've brought my dress from let me take pictures of me in all the dresses I tried, gave me the names and everything. For such a big decision you need that trust there. I'd do what Kempy said and ring them, it'll only make them feel foolish

I've had this before from a bridal shop, they would not allow us to take photographs or no the name of the dress. I did find that many of the bridal shops do stock the same designers with a swap around here or there, so it may be worth shopping around. The last thing you want to do it buy a dress from a shop who can't be honest with you.
I went to 2/3 local shop's after having this experience and they were completely different, encouraging us to take photos and more than happy to let us know the designer and even give me brouchers of the dresses! I didn't think twice about the shop who got my business x

my bridal shop was quite happy for us to take photos all though she did say the designers didn't like the shops to let us but she said the way she saw it was that if a bride was going to try on dress and then get a copy of the net they would do that whether she let them take pics or not. i didn't find any of the shops i went to gave me false information but they wouldn't allow pictures.d

Thank you all for your input, I am going to ring the shop and kind of say the bridesmaid thing, although my mother in law to be lives in Australia and I do want her opinion before I commit to the dress so would love for her to be able to find it. I know what you are saying about business etc but if she can lie about everything including the designer I don't feel I can trust her with one of the most important days of my life. I need straps adding in the exact same material as the dress and bits of the same material on my veil plus an added belt. It has shocked me how easily she lied to me but at the time I trusted her so readily, will be far more careful in future!

If you can next time you try one on take your phone in the changing room and try and get a pic of yourself in the mirror ;) It's a shame you had such a bad experience :/ but not all sellers are the same hun, try and use shops that friends or family have used and go for a good reputaion instead of pot luck. x
