Went to the doc today to get my results back from last week and i have a high thyroid. Not to bad can be sorted. The doctor also said that i might have polycystic ovaries. For those of you who dont know what that is (which include me) from what google says it is when cystics grow on your ovaries and stop the egg from coming down and stopping you from getting pregnant. Doctor said i have a 5% chance of getting pregnant and that if i do get pregnant it will more then likely end in me having a miscarraige.

I have all ways wanted kids when i was 10 i wanted 3 sets of tripplets 2 sets of twins and a single baby. Well now all i would like is 2 well that is not even going to happen.

I dont know what to do any more. Was thinking earlier if i do have it what will happen to me and martyn. He has always wanted kids and might not get them with me. I dont know whether to cry or not. Dont want to tell my family till we know for sure but i have just told my uncle as we are really close.

Please don't read too much into what the web says. My MOH has polycystic ovaries quiet bad and i also use to work with a girl who had polycystic ovaries and endymetriosis(not sure of spelling). My MOD honour is recieving fertility treatment at the moment and my old wrk collegue had fertility treatment on the NHS and now has a little girl. Not everyone with polycystic ovaries has to go through fertility treatment and a lot of women with the condition do fall pregnant. Again please don't read too much on the web but ask your gp about ur options. Hope all goes well for you xx

I have Mrs henderson and he said i would have to wait for my results next week to see how bad it is. If it is as bad as he thinks it is then i will have fertility treatment. I am hoping i dont have too.

I have had PCOS for 3 years now, and we have just started trying for a baby. I went to see the dr and she said that as I have regular periods I should try and conceive naturally first and then take it from there. I have just bought myself a clearblue fertility monitor to help, as it will help me understand myself a little better and I've heard it really does work.
If you want someone to chat to, you can drop me a message and I might be able to help?

Good luck with your test results.

    Xx

Hun, I have PCOS and what your doctor is telling you is a bit off the mark. He shouldn't even be telling you that until you have a proper diagnosis.
You have to have a scan to determine how bad the cysts are and if they are really bad you can have them lasered off.
Yes, it affects your fertility but I wouldn't say right down to 5% chance it just makes it more difficult.
I know a few people from a support network who have been diagnosed and then gone on to have healthy babies.
Losing weight increases your chances drastically.

From personal experience, I have found that reading things on the internet makes things sound so much worse.
    Good Luck xxx

Aww hon, I hope you get it all sorted, I'd go and see another Doc if I was you. I don't think they should tell you the worst! Imagine telling a cancer patient they could die tomorrow! Sorry to be brash, but I had a Doctor like that and she was bloomin useless. So I found a new Doctor. I hope you're ok xxx

Your Dr is talking through a hole in his erse!!!
I got diagnosed with PCOS over 10 years ago. Firsty, do you have polycystic ovaries or polycystic ovarian syndrome? they are different! 1 in 10 woman have cysts and its quite common. Fewer have the actual syndrome.

PCOS can make it more difficult to get pregnant, but its no where near 5%. Plenty of PCOS suffers get pregnant naturally so I really cant believe your Dr is saying all of that to you. If you are not ovulating, then get your Dr to give you Clomid. That will make you ovulate and increase your chance of conceiving ten fold.

I am starting my "trying to conceive" journey next year, so I do have worries, but being told i CANT have children is a long long way off.

i also think the diabetes, male pattern baldness, facial hair, body hair, early onset osteoparosis and blindess are maybe something your Dr should have talked to you about first before telling you you can have kids!
    Boo to your doctor!!!

My Mum has PCOS and she has four children, none from IVF - and I'm 22 so treatments have come a long way since then.

You can get treatment directly to treat PCOS and then you have all the normal fertility treatments on top of that - so I'm sure you will be fine. Really sorry to hear that you have had bad news though.

I have a freind with this and she was told her chances of conceiving naturally were next to nil, she gave up trying, resolved to never carrying her own children, set the ball off rolling for adopton and fell preg with twins, so moral is there is always a chance! x

    aww hun

i got diagnosed with it about 2 years or a littleless....and i just want to put my experiences cause yes its nice to hear allthe good ones but you have to be prepared for the not so good ones..

i just finished a period..that is the first time in hmm about 4/5 months without one! and i don't know what your periods do to you but this one just killed me..i wanted to punch everyone i spoke too and iwanted to cry all day every day cause of what it wa doing...but then again thats maybe my PMT!

Our son wil be 3 on sunday.and even he took near enough 2 years to concieve! and since being dignosed with pcos then we've been tryin for another baby with no such luck.and ihave to lose weight first before they will consider putting me onto clomid!

just speak to another doctor se e what ur options are hunxxx

See - what did I tell you on chat about idiot bl00dy doctors? And google is hell for things like this!

There is no reason why you and Martyn can't have kids, it might just take you a little bit longer - lucky you having all that fun ;)
I'm glad that there are a few ladies who have replied to this that DO have polycystic ovaries and have had healthy pregnancies - thank you for being able to tell her what I couldn't!!

Now chin up and don't let it get to you!!

I agree with the girls you have just as good a chance of having kids so don't let that worry you. Stupid doctor should be more careful when he tells you things like that. Don't put yourself down either as Martyn will love you no matter what happens in the baby department. He loves you for you so chin up. x x
