    Hi Ladies!

Just wondering whether anyone can help us at all? We have found a gorgeous hotel in Bavaro, Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic at a reasonable price, but we would be going on honeymoon in the first week of September. I know that this is the rainy/hurricane season, so I was wondering whether any of you have been at this time and what the weather was actually like?

    Thanks in advance :) xxx

\I haven't yet been to the Caribbean in September (going for the first time this year) but have been in June-August multiple times, and have been told September is similar. Expect it to be very hot and very humid, expect a short shower each day/every couple days (typically early evening), and expect 1-3 full days of rain/overcast skies.

We love travelling at this time of year as the resorts are quiet and the prices good.

PS. Which resort are you looking at? Been to Punta Cana twice and back again for the third time this September, so if you have any questions, fire away!

We went to the Dom Rep in Sept 09. We stayed in Uvero Alto on the East Coast. It was overcast/cloudy most days. Dont get me wrong it was sunny and hot but like sunny spells rather than pure sunshine. We had at least 2 days out of the 14 where it was torrential rain too. Lots of amazing tropical storms to watch at night.

Just been looking online about this too as getting married September next year and saw some places at Dominican Republic for a good price. After reading up that August/September is when the hurricane season hits its peak, you're likely to have a lot of stormy weather around that time and not so much pure sunshine as MrsWright says xxx

Having said what I said above, you can never know. We went to the Maldives in Monsoon Season. It rained at 7am each morning but was then blistering sunshine for the rest of the day.

The problem with the Caribbean is that you just don't know. The only months where you're really guaranteed great weather (hot, lots of sun, little rain, small chance of storms) and March and April; November-February is hot during the day, and fairly dry, but nights can be cool, then May-October you get more rain.

I did a lot of research before we booked, as it was a choice between mid-late July, and September. After speaking to several people on Trip Advisor who'd traveled numerous times both months, we plumped for September, as we wanted to avoid the school holidays, and were prepared to risk slightly worse weather. From my research, it seems September is pretty similar weather-wise to July and August, with more rain, and having been to the region several times in July and August, I was prepared to take the gamble.

You have to be very unlucky to get 2 weeks of overcast skies, though it can happen. The worst weather we've had to date was in Mexico in 2011, when we caught the tail-end of a tropical storm. We had about 2.5 days of non-stop rain, and a further 2.5 days of overcast skies. I'd say we had maybe 4-5 days that were constantly sunny with no overcast spells. However, it was blimming hot, and didn't spoil it for us at all; the wet days we went into town/got a massage/made the most of the included room service and ocean view jacuzzi in our room ;-)

Thanks Ladies, will have to have a word with h2b about it. I'm not sure I want to risk it when it is for our honeymoon, I wouldn't be bothered if it was just for a holiday but I don't want bad weather to ruin our honeymoon as we will only get one! lol xxx

We honeymooned in Gran Canaria in October. Weather was bliss 32-38 daily. We had one "cloudy" day where it was still 27-29 and we just used that day to go walking instead. Never had rain in GC yet and have been in May, August and October.

TBH weather is good in most places in September; but, I LOVE the Caribbean lol, the standard of hotels is just so much higher, and your money goes so much further!

We're getting married at the beginning of August next year, but looking at delaying our honeymoon until beginning of October, as the weather is slightly better then, and it gives us something to look forward to. Looking at Puerto Vallarta in Mexico, been wanting to go for ages and UK TOs are FINALLY offering it with direct flights.

Also, 'word to the wise'; I'd maybe wait and track prices for the time being, I find that when the prices just come out they can be on the higher side, and usually find it best to book about 11-13 months before.

We went to Bavaro in the Dominican Republic in September 2 years ago, the days were very hot and humid, glorious sunshine. We were pretty much guaranteed rain at some point everyday but it was normally in the evening and it passed in 10 minutes. The rain helped to clear the air and get rid of some of the humidity and it was the most spectacular rain I have ever seen, we had a thunderstorm one night and the buildings shook to boom was so loud. What is the hotel called?

My fil2b and his family went to dom rep in september a few years ago (not 100% what year) and they said it rained at 3pm every day for about 15 mins but after that it was so much hotter and less humid like it had cleared. But they went about 10 years ago and they had to get an emergency flight home as all the hotels flooded and it turned into hurricane type weather. So it just shows you never really know unlessyou take the risk xxxx
