Hello, I got myself some new eye make-up last week (out of Xmas cash from family) so thought I would have a play and see what I could come up with if I was to do my own make-up. With a make-up professional costing more then I thought and me enjoy playing round with my make-up I have now thought why not do it myself it will keep me calm on the morning. Well this is what I ended up with

Even though I do like make-up one thing I do not use is foundation, I norm just use a bit of concealer and some powder but for the wedding I would like some coverage to make my skin the best it can be so anyone know of a good foundation that's long lasting (I have setting spray) and easy on the pocket? Thanks in advance

One that’s really long lasting is Estee Lauder Double Wear but if you aren’t used to wearing foundation then you probably won’t like it as it’s very heavy coverage. It really doesn’t budge though!
For anything to be long lasting you need a good primer. I’ve tried many expensive ones and not been impressed and then I’ve recently started using the Body Shop vitamin C Skin Reviver, it’s fantastic, you only need a teeny bit under your make up and mine lasts all day (whereas before it used to be gone by lunch time).
My favourite foundation ever is Lancome Teint Miracle, it’s good coverage (full but not too heavy) and gives you a really nice glow, it’s definitely worth the money. But if you want something a bit cheaper my friend swears by Revlon Colourstay and Rimmel ‘Wake Me Up’. Sleek luminous powder is another good one to give you a glow and set your foundation. I normally prefer the more expensive brands for foundation and powder but I really like that one. I would go to a couple of make up counters and get them to try some of the products on your face so you can see if you like them, and then try to recreate it yourself x

Estee Lauder double wear is fab for coverage and long lasting. You need to apply it with a brush though for best results xxx

I use clinique anti blemish which when used with their loose powder gives absolutely flawless coverage. I did night nights last week and one of our student nurses asked me if I'd reapplied it. She saw when I went in to start my shift and then started the next morning shift, and seriously thought I'd reapplied it. So that's a good 14 hours that I had it on for. I am plagued with acne and scarring so usually need a heavy foundation but this one is light and lasts forever :) x

Foundation is a worry of mine as i have NEVER worn it, i only wear powder and concealer and the idea of wearing heavy foundation makes me cringe!
Smile lines setting in in foundation too...
I'd like to know of light ones too or ones that aren't too heavy if i Have to wear it.

Thanks for your views what ones are got for photos too as do not wont the white light bouncing off my face lol ... I have seen a HD primer but it comes out white so don't know how that would work could see that making the light bounce off it :-/ ... As I have dry skin but I don't mind a mat foundation as once I have powder and highlighter on it would not look dry and dull xx

I wear Clarins everlasting foundation. It costs about £26 for a bottle but it lasts a long time as a little of it goes a long way. I have really oily skin and this gives me great coverage and lasts ages without giving me spotty skin after! I have also tried the double wear one by Estee Lauder which would probably be better if you wanted completely flawless skin for photos but it is really quite heavy and made me feel uncomfortable. Go to somewhere like boots or Debenhams and ask for some testers, you normally get about three days worth and then you will be able to see which ones you prefer and feel most comfortable wearing xxx

Ooh another one to try - Bare Minerals. It's great, especially if you're not used to wearing foundation. It gives lovely coverage but feels like you're not wearing any. Double Wear is great but I've stopped wearing it now my skin is a bit better than it used to be. It's brilliant if you want a lot of coverage but I started feeling like I was wearing a mask, I now like a foundation where you can still see your skin underneath iykwim. Although they do a Double Wear Light which is a lighter coverage so that's worth a look too.
I definitely recommend looking at Bare Minerals though. It's so easy to apply. You can buy the foundation separately or you can buy a starter kit which has the foundation, 3 brushes, warmth (a bronzer - my fave ever) and mineral veil (which is a finishing powder that goes over your foundation). It's about £50 for the kit but bearing in mind it's over £20 to buy the foundation separately, same with the brushes.. so it's a bargain really! x

Ooh and a tip - go for something that doesn't have SPF in - it doesn't photograph well.

i use No7 matt its not shiny so won't bounce the light of you and gives great coverage but is a little heavy if you're not used to it your best option would be to go see a few beauticians in department stores or b00ts and ask for advice they're usually very friendly and helpful xx

I'm not keen on foundation either, but my BM is doing my make up and she stands by BareMinerals. I think it is quite expensive though and some people cant get on with it I have heard, but she stands by it 100%. x

I use a D1or one, it's a bit non the pricy side but you get what you pay for.
Alternatively you could do what I did before I got the Di0r one and goto the E5tee L4uder counter and tell them you're not sure what colour you need. Say you want it for your wedding so needs to photograph well and explain what coverage you want. They'll colour match you and give you a 7 day supply to take away. Enough to give you a couple of practice runs and for the day. And you won't be left with a bottle you'll never use again

My sister is a fully trained beauty therapist and also is a teacher/tutor of it so she is an expert on makeup, i always forget about that, she's doing my makeup so i'll make sure she does lots of different trial runs on me with different foundations and powders etc.
She uses a lot of clarins stuff i'm pretty sure... xxx

I'm going to Debenhams on Saturday so I will be going to get samples. Then if I do like it and you get a far bit in them I won't need to pay for it lol, as I say I never wear it so to use just for one day and not use it again seems silly so will give some testers a go :-) xx

Bare minerals. I love powders for that matt finish but I have dry skin. but this stuff is really good and last a long time. so im more than happy to do my own make up for the day!

If that's how you look without foundation, I wouldn't bother! Beautiful skin!! Benefit primer is great though. I have terribly sensitive skin, I'm going to pop to debenhams and get some trials done as I don't want to look over done but nor do I want to look greasy!! Xx

How about a bb cream? R£N do a lovely one, it just evens out any unevenness, and is like a second skin. It gives a beautiful radience to the skin without looking heavy, but it make you look "done" if you know what I mean? You won't notice a bbcream it's like a moisturiser... Xx

I popped into debs on Saturday and got a tester for the double wear lighter as she said the double wear dose not photograph too good as it makes you look white... Going to give it go over the next few weeks so will post some picks then :-) xx

I got a sample of the double wear other day she said it doesn't photograph as well as the double wear light but it covers better and I suppose at end of day it all depends on your photographer how good they are they will know all the tricks to make you look your best,I used the sample anyway and I'm happy with results I have a makeover at the estee lauder counter on friday eve so will see how that goes :)

Estée Lauder ! Love! Best I've ever used £24 a bottle but lasts ages... Use a primer too for a base which will be flawless. X
CommentAuthorclairenina
I'm using a primer, and probably a mineral powder foundation, and then a finishing spray. Might just get a few foundation samples though first to see what looks best. I'm just having trouble choosing a lipstick

If you have a department store near you & that's easy to get to on the day, go in a few weeks before, & get the different counters to make you up, see how you like it, how it feels & lasts through the day. Then book In with your favourite for the morning of the wedding, then it's done professionally.
They don't normally charge, some will take a deposit, that can then be used against product on the day of your appointment, which most likely you're going to at least buy a lipstick/gloss for touch ups through the day x
