Just a quick one ladies, what's your thoughts? Went to our venue yesterday - they had a wedding fair on - while we were there we started to look at some cakes. Now my friends making us our wedding cake - it is going to be a 6/7 inch topper cake, decorated then approx. 100 cupcakes. My friend is absolutely amazing at baking and as a cupcake maker myself I'm over the moon she's offered to do this for us. My mum bought it to my attention yesterday that shes a little worried with the top tier cake so I'm thinking that I could just buy a bog standard iced wedding cake from M&$ then decorate it myself? My question is... anyone have any ideas on great places I can get decorations from and do you all think I'm crazy for doing it myself? lol xx

I as going to do it the same as you. I was planning a shop brought cake, then add ribbons to it, but my moh said she would do the cake, I had someone else doing the cupcakes for me, it all turned out ok.

I'd also suggest going on the bay for decorations as well.

I'd say local cake shops.
not sure what you have in mind for decoration but for my sisters birthday I make her a cake with icing butterfly's and bought proper food colouring from our cake shop to colour the icing. worked 10000% better than the standard stuff from supermarkets and wasn't too expensive either.
And no, definitely not crazy!! :)

Theres not an awful lot of cake shops near me.... how about Lak3LaNd$? Reckon they'll do anything that'll be better then a bog standard supermarket? I keep questioning about having a topper too!! I want butterflies and sparkles!! lol xx

If I'm honest Kayleigh, I got my icing gun (for piping) from £land and it works just as good as any other and has different nozzels for different effects so maybe try there. TK-M@X for the icing stencils (to cut out butterfly's etc.)
for the stuff to use (colouring etc.) then try L@k3l@nd yes or h0bbycr@ft

I'm not a massive fan of icing i.e. writing etc - I'm more of a mould maker lol! I want those silver sticks I can put into the cake and fasten the butterflies on the end. Also looking for some sparkles that I can put round the base of the cake and then some turquoise included in with it too xx

I meant to make little dots etc. not a fan of writing either if I'm honest.
Can you use cocktail sticks or a wire?
edible glitter should definitely be able to get at L@kel@nd (again we got ours from cake shop) turquoise ribbon?
