This is a strange one but mine and my partners dog is extremely important to us on par with my two lovely step children so we want them all to be there. Is anyone else having there dog there for photos?!

my dog is a complete nutter and being a great dane I dont think that would mix with wedding guests. O hand he moults constantly and slobbers quite a lot so I dont really want drool smears across my dress! So I am afraid muppy will be staying at home!

We would have loved to have invited everyones dogs. I don't think the vicar or the hotel would have been as amused.

We have 3 dogs.. It would be far too chaotic! I'd maybe have, like Hails mentioned a cherish the dress shoot but we will have enough to worry about without 3 dogs to look after aswell.

i would love my dog there, but not sure he'll be alive! hah, but its cool you want to include them! :)
CommentAuthorGregorysGirl
We thought about having my h2b's mums dogs there as they are cute little westies and part of the family, but one is extremely disobedient and the other is so timid it would pee everywhere, lol, so we opted for dog free wedding, but we may have them at the reception as it is in our garden anyway and they would look so lovely with pink ribbon in their hair!! :)

Its personal choice really some pets are like peoples children so to speak as long as the venue allows it it is your day so go for it x

Our dog is as giddy as a kipper round people so wouldnt be a good idea for her but i wouldnt object to others dogs if i was at a wedding. We are a big doggy loving family, however i would have to bear in mind that some of my friends arent! In fact i have some that are petrified of dogs so you may have to think about you're guests and whether there are people that have the same probs! x
CommentAuthorOneDayMrsSmith
We're allowed dogs at our venue, I was thinking about our dog, well it's my Mom and my dog and he lives with Mom. But don't think H2B is too keen, so I might just have him there for a wreck-the-dress shoot haha :) x

my fiance said he wants the dog at our wedding...not sure if he was kidding or not...i'd love him to be there but he's so hyper and even just typing this message he's head butting me for attention so im not sure how well it would work....still 2 years to train him i suppose

I think it's a very cute idea in theory but what if one of your guests happens to be severely allergic to dogs or the go to the loo inside the venue or they moult everywhere ruining someone's outfit (and that could well be your dress!!) What if they start barking during your vows or they get overwhelmed by the number of people and turn and bite someone (even with the most timid dog it's possible) Personally I think there's way too much that could go wrong and I know a lot of people do think of their pets as children but they're not, they're animals. Ross was joking about having his 'babies' there - Kobi, a fully grown hyperactive male chocolate laborador who when stood on his hind legs is taller than I am and Jazz, a mental fur shedding slobbering Bernese Mountain dog who on all 4s reaches my tummy - I love them both to bits but there's no way I'd have them there because they're a liability, despite the cute factor of it all.
It's a personal choice but it's certainly not something I'd do xxx

I wouldn't personally. I'd love to have my furbaby there, my cat Luna but pets just aren't really practical and it's really unfair to anyone with allergies or medical conditions aggravated by animals and unless you ask every single guest if they mind, you risk having the one person who is allergic or whatnot and it'll ruin the day for them, which wouldn't be nice :(
@Kerry You have a Bernese? What are they like as pets? Me and h2b thinking of getting one when we get our own place :P

Ataraxia - strictly speaking it's my FIL's Bernese but Ross takes care of the dogs as FIL works away a lot (and MIL is useless with them) They're lovely dogs but you need a huge house, a huge garden and they need at least 3 hours walking a day - that and they shed hair like crazy. They also get really excitable so not too great around kids I'm afraid. They're fab if you have the time and space to devote to them xxx

As much as I love dogs and loved the dogs I owned I wouldn't want them at the wedding as I wouldn't want them stepping muddy paws on the dress, having to pick up poo or risk having them misbehave. I think even the best behaved dogs would have a hard time being good with children running about and people getting excited. It could even stress some dogs out.
CommentAuthorOneDayMrsSmith
I heard Bernese only live up to 8 years though, apparently the longest living breed is a chihuahua. Odd really. And gross. lol x
CommentAuthorleafy
We r including our beagle in our pre wed shoot as can't have him in wedding at hotel also think he would find it to stressful we are going to put him in kennels on wed afternoon before wedding as figure we will be really busy on Thursday getting ready for the wedding on Friday we think that that will cause him the least amount of stress as don't like thought of putting him in if he is already stressed out x

CommentAuthorLittle Miss Bump
we're putting our dog in the kennels probably on the wed, alongside my parents dog to keep him company, If i included him in the wedding it would be a nightmare, he'd be so excitaable, run through a puddle jump up on my dress, and pee everywhere ekkk xxx

I'd really love to take my cat but she is scared of everything and hates everyone except me and my nan... she's a really shy, grumpy cat. I like the idea of having a pre or post shoot with a pet... maybe I'll ask one of my photographer friends if they would do one for me where I could include her :P

Did anyone make the decision to have their dogs at their big day in the end?
I'd really like mine to be a part of the day in some way it just doesn't seem right then being sat at home alone all day while the rest of the family is our enjoying themselves.. I'd really like them in some photos too but this would be a logistical nightmare( the church is a 10 min drive and the venue 25 mins any advice or past stories would be really appreciated!!
CommentAuthorEmily17
I personally think it would be a nightmare. My parents are putting the cats in the cattery the night before the wedding because I don't want them around us when we are in our finest looking great then get hairs all over us and them playing in the dresses etc. The other thing with dogs is that they jump up you which can damage your dress etc and some guests might be scared of dogs which could put them off coming

It would be a nightmare for us too. Oscar just loves people and would get so excited having all those people in one place.. he would be jumping all over everyone's outfits and slobbering all over them too! I would love for him to be involved in the day, even if just for a couple of photos, but logistically it would just not work. Part of me also wants just one day where we don't have to worry about him, and he will have a fab time at the kennels!
We're thinking of maybe raising a toast to him during the speeches - at my auntie's wedding the best man raised a toast to their dog with a special bottle of doggy beer that they then gave to him when they got home, thought it was a lovely touch. My OH will be getting ready at home the morning of the wedding and will be taking him to kennels that morning too. So we were thinking before he leaves he could get a couple of pics with him "getting ready" xx

I do agree with Flossie. I love my cats and they are great and 100% a part of the family but the malt like hell and love playing in anything long so my dress would be ruined before I got out the house! Even when I have been trying it on they have been locked out the room. I got my veil out in the kitchen and they were jumping up to play with it. they couldn't reach it as it was held up but I couldn't risk that to my or anyone elses outfits!

I agree in that they'd be in the way for the majority of the wedding; I was hoping for just a few photos on the day but my dress is lace so I'm scared of them damaging it before I've finished with it and I don't know where would be best to include them in the photos!
I've heard of people using dogs as ring bearers at the church which would be cute but don't think they can be trusted!

Oh god haha! Mines not too bad for eating things he just flings himself around the house at 100mph and is very unreliable with his recall and sit commands so would probably play catch me if you can around the church!
My oh loves the snap he got of him based on a photo we saw on a photo board

Oscar enjoys eating random things. If you see him about to eat something and shout 'leave it' he will leave it, but if he has something in his mouth you have no hope of getting it back haha. His particular love is socks.

Milo doesn't eat socks or anything like that, he mainly just destroys his toys. He does pick things up in the street though which we have to try and get out of his mouth whilst walking and I did find him trying to eat a frozen chip that must of fallen out of the freezer last night lol xx

Leo will pick up anything outside to try and eat it! we have to be careful as he has a sensitive tummy but in the house he like to steal socks and hide them! lol If hes told to leave something he wont touch it either but once its in that mouth there is no hope! He likes to hang about when were cooking incase anything falls lol xx
