Just spoken to our venue and our co-ordinator is writing up our contract now so wanted to know what time we were thinking of getting married! Neither of us have a clue about this, so asked for her advice and she said this:
1.00 - 1.30pm - Wedding Ceremony 1.30-3.00pm - Drinks Reception and photos 3.00 - 6.00pm Wedding Breakfast, speeches etc 6.00 - 7 / 7.30pm - Time for venue to turn rooms around, set up dance floor etc - WHAT DO GUESTS DO HERE?! She said people can check in and go to their rooms if staying and bar will be open, is that too long for people to be stood around? 7 / 7.30pm - Evening Reception starts 8.30ish - Evening Buffet
Does that sound about right to you all? The big 1 hr to 1 1/2 hrs gap is a lil bit disconcerting to me?
Thanks girls (and guys!) xx

I think thats ounds just like mine although we are having our wedding meal in a different room and they will be setting up for night time in another room while were eating. There is still going to b an hour between the meal and the evening recption for us but the bar is open and its like a country house venue with gardens and stuff so that people can do what they want. Don't worry about it hun, the time will go by so quick and everyone will want to chat with you and your husband and get a chance to take their own photos of you both. xx

yes def dont worry about the time gaps, ppl will be chatting or getting changed for the evening, i have ppl going back to get their children for the reception between that time, my wedding plan is pretty much the same as urs, except my ceremony is at 2.30, then i have an hour 2 for photos and drinks and mingling, before the sit down meal at about 4.30/5. Ur times sound perfect to me, whenever u get married i think time goes too quickly for everyone so i dont think it will matter about any gaps or spaces, it will give ppl a chance to catch up or chill out! lol x

That looks good to me :-) i'm getting married a bit earlier in the day so my time gap is looking like 2 hours (maybe a little bit more) but if your families are anything like ours then they'll all be chatting and catching up as we don't all see each other very often. It will fly by and go really quick i'm sure x

That sounds about right to me hun and a 1 hour gap isn't much at all! Plus, it gives you leeway for if anything runs over time xxx

Thats the same timings as the wedding i went to last week in a hotel. although she only had 35 ppl during the day so that 1.5 hrs it took to turn the room around dragggged! Some people get magicians or charicaturist people in during that hour.

look good to me hun, we are putting on live bands during the break for those who aren't checking into there rooms, our room has a balcony upstairs which is also where the bar is so we are just chilling up there but they can go for a wander over the road to the park, people make there own entertainment.
you could also possibly invest in some garden lawn games to keep people entertained but a lot of people will just freshen up during the break

Looks good to me, and I think guests expect a certain amount of waiting around time at weddings, as long as the bar is open they'll be happy!

We are having a three hour gap between the day and night do, so don't worry, people will welcome some time to chill out for a bit.
It's not a massive issue for us as we are having twice the number for the night do than the day do xx

Sounds about right to me... saying that, I haven't even booked mine yet, but at my BIL's wedding we were left for an hour and a half and we all just sat and had a drink and got to know other people there. It's a nice time to meet and greet and relax before the meal and entertainment starts!

sounds about right to me... mine 10:30am - Wedding Ceronmy 11:30-1pm - Photos & guests will head to the 2nd venue (40min drive or 10min boat ride) 2:15pm - Wedding breakfast & speeches 5pm-7:30pm - Break - check into hotel rooms etc 7:30pm - Evening reception begins
1am - Carried up to the room by hubby haha (he asked me to put that in :) )

Sounds pretty much like everyones tbh! Everyone gets worried about that time gap but in all honesty that hour or so does fly, people checking in, guests mingling and chatting, getting drinks in at the bar, informal photos being taken. Again like the others above people get musicians, cariacturists, magicians etc. I went to a wedding which had a 45 min gap between ceremony and photos then the gap before the meal where people were chatting in bar, getting drinks, getting acquainted with other guests then after the meal there was the 1/1.5hr gap and tbh I'd made friends with a girl and our OH's went off with the other blokes and watched a footi match on the tv in the bar!
In that time, the bride and groom can go off and relax and finally let sink in what theyve done, or the bride can go and get her makeup/hair topped up or changed if havin different do for the night etc. And also gives you a chance to sit back put feet up and say hello to some guests you may not have had a chance to speak to!

that sounds like outs although i think we are having a little more time for the turn around. One suggestion that we have been given is to ensure there is time in there to have time for you and your H2B!

Thanks everyone! Feel abit better about that gap now
We are having a characaturist but havent yet decided what session to get him in for! I reckon that gap would be the perfect time! I'll check with the hotel that the space is big enough for him to set up as well as have 80 odd people mingling around for an hour..
My only worry is the 10 (roughly) kids that will be stood around but I'm making them up boxes and stuff anyway so I'll just make sure I put enough in there to amuse them! xx
