Okay, so the room of which we will get married in (if the weathers poor), and where we will be having our wedding breakfast, has red patterned carpet, creamy patterned wall paper aswel as curtains. Our theme is peacock colours. I was wondering if you girlies think this will look stupid. I am debating what colours I actually want to dress the room in, either while chair covers and table cloth, with teal or turquoise sashes and the same colour table runner. It is a well lit room, so it wont be dark.
Anyone else got a room like this?xxx

go with the bright colours hun .....it all sounds fab
I'm having the same problem hun - our colours are light blue, silver and white, but our room is similar colours to yours, so I'm worried about things clashing (but I don't like red etc, so don't want to go with the room colours). I'm hoping people wont be paying as much attention as me! Hopefully they'll see the lovely centrepieces/chair covers etc and not look around the room too much!

Go with the colors that you want. We got married in an Art Deco room which was decorated in pink and blue/grey and the wedding breakfast was in a room which was yellow and green. There was no way to have a color that would go with both rooms, so we went with purple, lilac and gold. I was concerned that the yellow and green carpet would really show through but it was barely noticable once the room was decorated. I was going to go for a color that would incorporate the yellow/green, but was advised to go with the colors that I wanted and ignore the room colors as if I went for yellow/green it wouls bring the carpet out rather than dampen it down xx

Yeahhhh, I think if you have bold centre peices and things like that it will take their attention away from the reds and creams. I might take a trip up to my venue and weigh up the options.
Thanks MelN - that's the sort of thing I was hoping to hear! x

This is something I have noticed! Why do they have to have coloured/patterned carpets?!!! They always seem to clash no matter what colour scheme you go for!
Our colour scheme 'at the moment' is Brown, Ivory and Gold.
It was Black purple and silver but not sure if the colour scheme will go with my dress so have changed it-contemplating having some purple accents thrown in, only subtle such as purple flowers in centerpeices?!

my ceremony room is red so bordeux for bm will work well but the bridal breakfast and evening room is blue so it was kind of tough for us im afraid as the only common theme between both rooms was gold and that caused a bit of drama from all the girls refusing to wear gold... i can see why as it wont suit any of them so we changed to black, then black and red, then pink, then red and sticking with bordeux. It was a major headache so the trick is to make a decision and stick with it or you will constantly change,

Mel - you don't really notice the carpet do you?! I don't know if it's just me, but my eyes just go straight to the table decorations because you know that they're part of the day!

Eeee, I've even gone and asked my venue to email me pictures of the room bare, and dressed in different ways for weddings to see if it looks okay. Haha. xx

Sorry Charlotte! Lol. I'm going to ring my venue and demand they recarpet! lol x

Honestly - when the room is decorated you really don't see the carpet - even the hideous one that I had! Just asked someone what color the carpet was, and they couldn't tell me it, they noticed the seat covers, the table centres, table decorations, everything that I wanted them to notice, but they didn't see the carpet at all.

we're getting married in a red dominated ballroom, but it doesn't matter my friend had a white and purple wedding in there, everyone is too busy looking at the table and stuff to notice the room :-)

Sorry but PPL will be watching you not the carpet during the service, talking and eating during the meal not looking at the carpet and during the reception it will be dark so whose gonna see it????
Our venue has wooden flooring so thats not a problem for us but to be honest the first venue we looked at had green carpet but i wasnt bothered as to be honest ppl walk on it and dont really notice it and thats it really! Now the walls and decorations might effect my colour theme for example if my venue had bright pink walls and silver frames etc i wouldnt pick gold and blue as my theme!!! (although hot pink and navy is lush together)
Again im lucky tho as my venue is beautiful and my theme reflects that :-)

I was really concerned about the carpet and curtains of my venue of choice. But decided to go for it anyway. Im wedding colours are red, white and black, and the colours of the room are blue floral. Thankfully the walls are beige, and we have already talked to the venue about covering the curtains with white fabric. The floor wont bother me so much then.

kimmie that aint a bad idea lol. i asked 1 venue that i viewed if they could change the light shades on the ceilling as i thought they were old, dated & a tad on the dirty side!! needless 2 say the "wedding planner" from the venue was less than impressed lol

Its good your wedding planner felt the same nicole! I was thinking about maybe draping white material over the curtains, but actually, my curtains aren't too bad as they do not have much red, just a little bit.x
CommentAuthornicole85
the wedding planner didnt feel the same, she was horrified that i would even dream of making that kind of suggestion lol. Thats y i have a totally different venue with beautiful rooms & a great wedding team :) its good if they dont bother u much but if something really bothered me & i didnt like it i would have to ask for it 2 b changed lol. sounds really ott & bridzilla but i just want everything perfect :) x

Our venue were going to redecorate at the beginning of the year, but then decided that they didn't have the budget (it is a charity). We did discuss asking them to recarpet and paying towards it, but after i had seen the room set up I relaised that it wasn't noticeable. It was only noticeable when we first went as it was set up for a conference and there were no decorations, not even table cloths.
