I can have a brand new car with my job - any car i like (waahaaaay!)
HOWEVER - its a lease car.... i get it for 3 years and have to declare my annual private mileage
I have NO idea how these things work, what would be a cheap option car wise etc to keep costs down.
Can anyone help?

Watch out for the tax you have to pay on a company car hun as it is crippling, some of the managers at my Dad's work are paying £280 a month tax for the car then having to pay tax on the mileage too. Not sure how this works with a lease car though so really haven't answered your question - sorry my dear :( Xxx
CommentAuthorGoff
I dont have to pay tax on it honey. Its through the NHS. I will pay a contribution towards the lease of the car, but i sont really know how it works.
Thanks anywhoooo :-)

Oh that's fantastic hun, I say go for it. I know the basics of leasing a car as in they deal with the MOT, Tax any repairs and you basically just have to fill the tank with fuel, not sure on anything else but it doesn't seem to be a bad option :) Wish I had a company car. lol. xxx

i sell cars and generally depending on the type of lease its great if you can get one. even better if you dont get taxed on it even better you can check company car tax amounts on the p11d values normally on the web site somewhere.
i'm on a company car scheme and love it! :)
have they given you an amount to spend or a monthly allowance if you dont mind me asking? xx
My old company car had a set mileage allowance and i started paying tax after that. if it is part of a company scheme then i would check that... is ya annual mileage alot hun?????
Best thing about them is that they are hassle free you would ideally want a small one my personal car is a fiat 500 35 quid a year tax low insurance and cheap to fill so maybe a small car would be the best option and when u insure it u have to get business insurance on it xx

Goff, i have a lease car through the NHS, you will have to pay tax on it, i do, but it will be calculated in with your lease fee when you get your quotes! As for trying to keep costs down, i would advise that you opt for a diesel, H2B (mechanic) suggests that you go for something like a 1.4 diesel corsa!! Hope that helps a bit!! x

Thats what i meanr Di lol, i got a bit confuzzled! I WILL have to pay tax but its in with the lease kinda thingy
I haven't got a budget Jodie, they just said pick one
Ive just been on green car sites and looked at ones with really low emissions.
Ive picked out 5 cars, and sent them to my boss, so he is going to get a price for me.
Also, do any of you know about private mileage use?
My private mileage is gonna be immense as its 100 miles to and from work, so ill be clocking up around 30,000 miles per year private and i THINK that might cost me a small fortune?

Private mileage is normally used by companies to work out how much vat they can claim back just confirm what they mean by private mileage is eg. Some companies consider going to and from work as private some don't. What cars are you looking at I work for vw we have the bluemotion range is very good free road tax on some models all diesel and high miles per gallon if you have any questions just ask I deal with it all day x

Hi Jodie
These are the ones i picked out:
BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Saloon
BMW 118d Coupe
Subaru Forester (Apparently these have a free LPG conversion) see here: http://www.greencarsite.co.uk/GREENNEWS/subaru-lpg-initiative-dual-fuel-conversions.htm
Toyota Prius 1.8 T3
Honda Insight 1.3 IMA SE
I got them off the green car site - surprisingly the beemers are lower emission than most!
Thanks for your help

Apparently its still cheaper than owning your own car, but i guess it depends on the amount of private mileage and the car itself
Ive not really been given any details except that i can choose any car and i have to make a contribution, but otehr than that.... i know nowt!
My boss has a Mercedes.... its gawwwwjuus! He said he could never afford a Merc in a million years, but can on the lease car scheme

I dont think petrol is included. Again i dunno!
I was just told to choose about 5 cars that my boss can get me quotes on.
Ill get the quotes though and see what i actually have to pay for - may not be worth it in the long run x

Are green cars better on fuel consumption, like i know some of them have less emissons but does that mean they do more miles to the gallon??
CommentAuthorjodie b
If it's a contract hire they tax it, maintain it and some include insurance I'd recommend driving them the Toyota and Honda are good cars the Toyotas are known for their fuel efficiency the bmw's are built really well but can be a hard ride and aren't good in snow and ice don't know much about the Subaru If you arrange test drives don't tell them it's a company car that's bought fo you some sales people try to fob you off cause they won't get the deal just say it's a private purchase The company car scheme is goodnight couldn't afford my car if I was buying it if your going for an Eco friendly car you p11d tax amount will be low xx

We have a Subaru Impreza and it is a fantastic car and can drive in ANY weather. Jodie is right about the BMW's, we had an E36 and it was a beast of a ride, really comfy and so smooth but don't dare drive it in excess wet, ice or snow as it will turn into a ballerina. lol. I would never ever pass a Jap or German car so you've chosen wisely :) xxx
CommentAuthorjodie b
The Toyota can be a but strange when you drive it round town at first cause it won't start using fuel until it goes over a certain speed i think so can seem sluggish so I'm told never driven one tho tis nice have a new car I love them : D x
CommentAuthorjodie b
I think the subaru is 4 wheel drive isn't it nhr115? Bring on any weather in a 4 wheel drive x
CommentAuthorNHR115
Yeah it is and it is the most amazing car to drive. I would have another impreza any day. It worked a treat when we had the ridiculous snow at the beginning of the year, everyone in our street was revving the guts out their engines to get up and down the street and theres me just nipping in and out like it was a summers day. lol. I didn't realise that about the Toyotas, is that just that model or are they all like that? xx
CommentAuthorPossum
My mentor had a micra on the NHS scheme for leases. Look into a hybrid or something maybe? xxx
CommentAuthorjodie b
I think he dual engine type has something to do with it cause it drives differently than when it's using petrol it's something my customer told me he felt my dad also test drove a lexus hybrid when he was looking at 4x4s he said a simular thing it's difficult to have speed and power and be fuel efficient so where petrol/ diesel have nice revs elec can whine tis all but everyones different the toyot sells very well and is big in th US everyone has different opinions otherwise we'd all be driving the same thing x
CommentAuthorNHR115
This is true hun although it's getting that all new cars are morphing into one :( I'm glad I still have my Sunday car to drive too (1973 Mk1 Escort). x
CommentAuthorjodie b
We have a 94 rover mini for fun they don't build them like they used to although this maybe a good thing lol the minis not the most reliable car lol x
CommentAuthorNHR115
I love mini's too, such a cult car. The old cars certainly aren't reliable but ehy're so much fun. lol. x
CommentAuthorDi B 83
Goff, when i took my lease i had to state how many private miles i would do in each year, this part determines the cost of your lease, if you go over the mileage then they charge you something extortionate (sp?) like 14p per mile. You do have to put your own fuel in, though some PCT areas do provide fuel cards, and your insurance will all be part of the final lease fee that you get quoted. If you want a rough price as to what i pay for mine feel free to PM me x

Thanks for all your input ladies.
As i said, i went on the green car website and looked at the emissions and the beemers came out lowest.
I love the idea of the Subaru with LPG as it will be great in the snow - and going from Manchester to Sheffield is gonna be a nightmare in the winter!
I looked at the Hybrids too - the Prius was one and i think the Honda is too. Lexus do a beaitiful hybrid but the emissions are double what the beemers are.
Di, ill drop you a message honey and thanks x
