My partners friends 14 of them, are arriving at our ceremony in a Bus, Her friends seem to be saying that the driver will be staying, thus my partner is thinking we may have to feed the driver

As far as Im concerned, I dont know him and really dont want him at our day, apart in his duty as bus driver, as the ceremony is at 1pm and the day ends at midnight, at the same location, but the ceremony is around 2hrs away from where they are coming from.

So are we responsible to feed the bus driver?

Please help, as we have not anticipated this extra cost

    Thanks
    SJ

I think coach drivers would normally provide their own food.

Plus if they booked him, they would be reponsible, not you.

Nah, wouldnt do it. The bus driver should not be staying at the wedding reception, he should wait outside in the bus or drive somewhere and come back. It would be bad manners of him to come into the reception uninvited by the bride and groom. So a big fat definite NO! Been thinking about this with the photographers, got two of them, had planned on provided some sandwiches but H2B has put his foot down, they are being paid enough money without providing lunch as well. He pointed out that if you have a workman come to your house you dont give them lunch! True enough! And for those that put in their terms and conditions he thinks its a bit of a cheek when they are quite able to bring their own packed lunch! I can see his point of view!

No way would I be paying for him or have him at your do. It is their responsibility as they have booked him and drivers are used to hanging around without being invited in anywhere. It would be very unprofessional

I will be passing this to my partner, Hopefully she will calm down

I said that I dont mind the driver being parked in the car park, but deffo not coming in apart from going to the toilet lol, well Im not that bad then lol

I personally wouldn't invite the bus driver to eat. I guess you have to think about how you would feel if there happened to be some issue over the work/ service they have provided - would inviting them to eat make it harder to address any issues? Would it muddy the water between business and friendship? This is the same reason that we decided not to use a friend of my brother as a photographer. She'd have been coming all the way from Brighton and we'd be left wondering that even after paying her fuel costs, if we ought to sort her out with a accommodation/ have her eat with us/ dance with us. We decided to keep it professional and use someone who could just concentrate on their job and not be distracted.

I guess they are looking to you for clarity. Just be clear. That's not mean, it's helpful. It means the driver can think ahead and bring a sandwich. Presumably they are getting paid.

I know what to do, My Toastemaster will be greeting the guests as they arrive, I will pop £20 in a envelope marked for the bus driver, and inside put a note inside on the lines of

Many thanks for bringing our Guests
    along for Our special day

Please accept this £20 as a token of our thanks
so that you can buy a meal while you wait

** There is a Mc D's just down the road (joke)

I am sure he couldnt buy a meal at the Hall for £20, maybe £40'ish lol

    What ya think

You don't even need to do that hun, this is what they are used to - as someone else said earlier, when you hire a bus to take you to a theme park etc, you don't wonder if you need to pay for the driver as well - and there's nothing different here. I honestly do not think it is expected. x

No I wouldn't either. Your wedding is about you and your guests (family and friends) You can't go feeding all those helping out/doing their job and where would you put them in your seating plan?! If I was them I would feel awkward having to join in the wedding party x

    It was just a thought

How dare some guests try and take liberties, They are like family to Kim, theyve worked with her since she was 18, so like mothers to her, and to be honest, at 17 guests, they have the main share.

I will have a word with the toastmaster and ensure that the bus driver knows the score, and prob will still give him a envelope with directions to food lol

    Thanks girls xx
