I am new to this - got engaged September 2012 and I am getting married 26 May 2014 - I have booked so much stuff do I need to slow down??
I have already brought one wedding dress decided it was the wrong one and brought another (which I am pretty sure is 'the one'!!
Also booked a videographer but found a better one so lost the deposit on that and booked the new one (who is simply amazing! So worth loosing the money!!)
Think I might need to slow down a bit...what do you think? Has everyone else booked everything really quick?? - the only things I really have left to do is the cake and flowers (and I have app for flowers on say! Ahh)

Hi, we get wed 31st may 2014 and I like you have nearly everything ticked off the only things I have left to sort is my dress and b.maids and a few gifts left to choose. I see it more done now means less stress nearer the time. X

YES But only because you keep changing your mind and loosing money! You need to be absolutely sure before you book buy anything else or our budget is going to spiral out of control!
I'm all for forward planning I get married 2015 and have done LOADS but I have done things that I am sure I wont change my mind on and done research after I think I have found something just in case I find something better and if I do I get that instead!
Be careful hunni if your likely to change your mind I really wouldnt plan so much so soon

Exciting!! Wedding dress shopping is sooo much fun!! :-)

You just need to be sure you want it before you buy or you will have lots of things you don't want and will have wasted money x x

I wouldnt say you are rushing as such.... but maybe do a little more research before you book. Weddings are expensive at the best of times without losing deposits because you've changed your mind! :)

Ive tried on dresses last year hehehe Just so I could get a feel for what I like and what shapes and styles suit me BUT appart from looking online Im not even going to consider getting one until at least November 2014 which is a year before as I know there will e more dresses comeing out between now and the big day and styles change etc. I do have a few that have stuck in my head tho so Ive researched them and found stockists and prices for those all ready for me to try when the time comes :-)

There is no harm in doing things so early on. I think you have to be sure on the dress though. I purchased mine a long time in advance, and sometimes I saw other dresses and thought have I picked the wrong one, then I would look at mine again and be assured I had not. I organised my wedding over a long time and got things sorted early on so the run up to it was not as stressful.

I sorted everything for my wedding pretty quick, and ended up with 3/4 months with nothing wedding to do! which was boring to be honest. However it did take a lot of stress... but like other said i did find my self looking at other things and changing bits and bobs xx

Nothing wrong with being organised! I got engaged in July last year and am getting married in June this year. Got everything booked and just waiting for the bridesmaids dresses and invites to arrive. Hoping the last two months I'll have as little as possible to do! Already had plenty of ideas before we got engaged so it was just a matter of researching stuff once he finally proposed! (didnt want to do that before as I probably would have seemed a bit psycho!!) As the others have said, just be 100% sure on stuff coz losing deposit after deposit will soon add up and you won't want to miss out on something because you've overspent!

I really think it depends on you as an individual eg how fussy you are, and also how prone to changing your mind you are.
We got engaged two years ago, and get married in 18 months; in the first few months of being engaged we booked our reception venue and ceremony venue and decided on food and drink, and I bought both pairs of shoes. Within 7 months of being engaged I bought my dress.
With 18 months to go we're about to put a deposit down on the cake, and also the photographer.
I spent AGES looking at venues, and ages looking at photographers; I'm also thankful I've got my dress as I've not seen anything since that's 'right'. So it's quite a relief some of the big things are done.
I'd just say to spend time researching, as it's nice to have the luxury to do that, and not rush into booking anything.

We want to get married in aug/sept next year but not yet see venue but hoping to book the venue end of this month.

I think each to their own!! We have been engaged for 4 years did no planning but had lots of ideas between us ( which we really haven't stuck 2 lol) only booked our venue 4 months ago which left us about 6 months 2 plan which we didn't start doing till after Christmas which then gave us 4 months hadn't even looked at dresses untill january but with 6 weeks 2 go till my big day we have pretty much done everything!! So we can now just sit back relax & wait :0) x and of course diet lol

Hey! We also got engaged in September 2012 and are getting married on the 30th May 2014! I am also be very proactive with the wedding plans, mainly cos it's so exciting I can't help myself but it does also help to know how much things are going to be so you know how much you need to get together! So far we have booked our venue, videographer, photographer and our florist! Going to a cake tasting on the 23rd of this month and the all important dress shopping begins next month!!
I think it will be nice to have everything sorted by the end of the year and then next year I can concentrate on all the little details, dress fittings and the all important hen weekend!
In an ideal world we would of loved to get married this may but we need more time to save in order to pay for the wedding we want! In the meantime it's impossible for you not to get excited and jump into the planning!

I don't think there is anything wrong with getting booked in advance, but make sure you take one thing at a time and do your research before booking anything to save you losing out on deposits. We are getting married in February next year and have been engaged since July last year. We have booked the venue, I've got my dress, decided on a colour theme, got a photographer and made enquiries about lighting, cake and favours. We have also chosen the colour scheme. It helps to plan in advance and be organised, but don't be too tempted to impulse buy if you think you might change your mind later. You have got plenty of time to get everything done. Hope it all goes well! x

Nothing wrong with being organized! Well thats my moto anyway! We got engaged a year ago and don't get married until April 2015, and we've booked the Venue, got save the dates, got my BMs dresses in M*ns**n sale, and I've chosen my dress (after changing my mind) but thats about it for major things. I've started sourcing decorations for the tables and we got our favours, but only because they were limited edition charity pins by Jenny Packham. But I would err with caution especially if your prone to changing your mind as you could potentially loose more money that way, but if your 100% sure than go ahead. Saves any last minute stress. x

Getting married 2015, venue is booked and majority of things are planned, little bits bought but no big things bought/booked other than venue as I don't want to waste money if I change my mind later on.. But got everything waiting in the wings apart from my dress, MOH dress, our rings and honeymoon.. xx
