I have found a photographer/videographer. I can get both together for £1000 and have checked the website and the pictures look really nice. The problem is that i live 600 miles from them and can't get to see the portfolio's or ask questions until i am up at christmas, would be nice to talk to them face to face before i put a deposit down and soon in case the date goes, any ideas ladies?
I did think i could send MOB or MOH, but don't know how objective they would be.

i would wait hun, its still a while a way the wedding so there little chance they would be booked up on the date. the other option is your ring them and ask if they could provisionally book you in?

Laticschick, i would love to wait but they are already fully booked for 2010 and 2011 and are being booked for 2012 already. Jen, i would love to go but don't think i can afford it at the mo.

couldn't you ask them to meet you half way, some photographers will travel to meet you for a meeting my friend travels 100miles without charging i think anyway

I was in same sitation claire, i live 4 hours away from where im getting married. One of the brides on here recommended a photographer in th area and i looked at his website and all his photos on facebook too. The deposit was only £100 so i thought sod it,i'll book it! I should be able to meet with him during oct half term when i visit home and i thought at the end of the day as long as deposit isnt too much it was a risk worth taking to make sure i could still get him for my date! xx

You can ask questions over the phone and get an idea of what they are like but its always best to meet them to see if you get on personality wise. He may be the best photographer in the world but if he doesn't make you feel relaxed then you won't take good photo's. Chat with him on the phone first and tell him your concerns. He may be able to work with you and find a solution.
I would talk to the h2b and see what he thinks as well. I know its hard but there are other photographers out there if he does get booked. Sometimes they like to pretend they are getting booked up just to make you panic book them.
